Right, I've just started playing this and I'm in the Antlion Cave. I have no Phoenix Downs, Rydia and Edward are KOd, and I'm up against a Yellow Jelly doing 1 damage at a time with Cecil. Any advice on how I can not die? (And how do you save? I've only figured out how to Quicksave.)

There should be save points in certain parts of the game. And you can always save on the World map.

Try to leave the cave and get back to a town. There you can get revived by the priest dude.

to run away in a middle of a battle, hold the L and R (SNES, GBA), or L1 and R1 (PS1). it'll take time for your character to leave the battle, but that's how you run away in battle.
