So after I got Dark Cloud 2 back in 2004 I wanna say... I finally beat this game after 9 years.

It wasn't that it was a bad, it was a great game in fact. I just always got side tracked with other things, and picked up other games, and when I finally decided to get back to the game, it was at a point where I had no idea what was going on, so I would start all over, get a little farther than last time, and then repeat the process again. This time I beat it and was like "FINALLY ONE DOWN OFF A LONG BACKLOG LIST!" Now if I beat Dark Cloud... it will be even longer that I had that game...

So I was wondering, what was the longest it took you to beat a certain game?

Any reason for it?

Were you happy you finally beat it?

I guess Kingdom Hearts 1 would be the longest for me. It took me about 2 months to complete. The thing here is that I have started plenty of other games, but I just never finish them, so they can't count here. I probably have games going back to 10 years ago that I haven't finished. So yeah, the original KH. XD

I remember taking me an age to finally complete Final Fantasy XII.

I received the game as a rare gift when it came out in Europe in early 2007. I believe it took me approximately two and a half years to finally kick the Bahamut's doors (bulkheads?) down and give Vayne a good, thorough slap around in the face before the credits were rolling.

I had...quite a journey with FFXII. As people here know me for being a big fan of the game, and how much I am willing to go and defend it from critics, be interested to learn that I absolutely did not like the game to begin with. I could very well have come out, put my hands up and unequivocally say that Square had totally gone to shit with this one. Possible reasons why this happened can range from my lack of preparation for how different FFXII would play, my difficulties in properly grasping how Gambits work; the sheer scale of certain areas like the Garasmythe Waterway, Barheim Passage and Lhusu Mines that just drained me; and how much I got my arse kicked in the game. Yes, I genuinely believed that FFXII was too unfairly punishing for me.

I can't remember how long it was until I sat down and decided to give Final Fantasy XII another go. I think it was on the second uhh, second chance I gave the game until all of a sudden, it clicked. It suddenly clicked and I found myself thoroughly enjoying the game. I really appreciated the Gambit system. I grew to bloody love the translation work, the stellar voice acting, the scope and grandeur of Ivalice, and even the story. The story was finally clicking with me, and I could understand and appreciate Vayne and Dr. Cid as they were chatting in flowery language to each other.

I should probably stop starting each of my paragraphs with the word "I", but oh well.

The Pharos did my head in, so I abandoned it for a good few more months before I found the will to stick a middle finger up decisively to the game designer who decided that it was a-okay to have this long, gruelling dungeon, and reach the top. It was plain sailing to the end of the game at that point. Two and a half years later, I finally finished the game.

Livi pro tip: Giving a game another chance definitely pays off. And don't listen to Ondore's lies.

About two years for Bowser's Inside Story, one for the original Paper Mario...that's pretty much it. It only takes me a few months to complete a game, which I consider pretty short. :P

EDIT: Oh, the final bosses game me the most trouble. I mean, I was LAZY.

It took me quite a few years to finish Final Fantasy X- about 4 or 5 years- since my PS2 broke down when I was at Luca. I then decided to restart my game... And I certainly enjoyed it more.

I never found it particularly hard. None of the bosses were trouble, since I generally leveled up a lot, and ran a good team mix.

It was more to do with my numerous breakdowns - one PS2 was too buggy to play with, the other PS2(slim)'s laser fried. So, t'was a long and perilous journey for my budget...

I'd probably say Final Fantasy X. I had started playing it in junior high but it wasn't until my 11 grade year that I finally beat it. Funny that I still had the same save file all those years.

The other one would probably be Xenogears, taking me the better part of a year. Still my favorite game.
