what is the huge materia used for? how many are there, and do they do anything for you? every time I interact with them it just tells me what they are.

I like seeing people use the help files better then google.
Anyways there are 4 huge materias. Each a different color and four different areas to find them.
Huge materia 1 - north corel where you jump on the train.
#2 - In the last Fort Condor battle.
#3 - in the submarine quest. You have to take out the red sub, then find it at the bottom of the ocean.
#4 - in the rocket before you escape from outer space. There is a code you have to enter. I think its X O [] []
The purpose is for maxing out materia. Once you have all the red/green/yellow materias mastered, you can go to the huge materia and get a master magic, a master summon, or master command. You need the blue huge materia cause examining it with Bahamut and Neo will give you Bahamut Zero.

Also just to add on to that, it is best to just kill Emerald instead (easier) as it gives the same rewards and is quite easy if you know what you are doing.
