I just finished ff8 yesterday. However, I do not understand much about the last cutscene. Please could anyone help me clarify.
1.Why before going in Ultimecia's castle, while everyone is swimming undersea, did Rinoa say "I can disappear at anytime"?
2.Why does Rinoa's image in Squall get blurred? Is it because Rinoa no longer exists in the past?
3.Do the rings of Laguna and Raine have anything to do with Squall's ring?
4.Why does Rinoa have the power to open the dull sky after finding Squall?
5.Why does the future Ultimecia pass her power back to the pas Edea when the former dies? Does it mean that the moment Edea rules Galbadia is not because Edea is possessed by Ultimecia (because Ultimecia has already died)?

haha....confusing questions are confusing :wacky:

I can only really coment on the last one...Edea is possessed by Ultimecia because at that point she hasn't died yet in her future....time travelly stuff confuses the hell out of me

But like when Ultimecia dies and passses on her powers to Edea....she has yet to be born in that timeline so like.....she is still alive to posess her at a later date

Im sure someone can explain that better than me, but Ihope that helps....sort of >_<

I don't think the rings Laguna and Raine have have out to do with Squalls, they are just their wedding rings

I'd like to know where he got it though, and why it's called Griever like Ultimecias summon, that's always confused me -__-

Nah, I dont think it's that, I just think he's losing the plot abit.....

I can't really explain anything on the ending of VIII as I havent seen it for well over 2 years and I thought it was the most confusing FF ending of the entire seires.

But like Bambi said, Ultimecia was dying so she had to pass her powers onto somebody else who just so happened to be Edea in the past. Then one day Ultimecia from the future will be born and later posses Edea and the events of FFVIII start all over again in a time loop.

I heared somewhere that Griever wasn't a real summon as such, just something Ultimecia manifested out of Squalls mind to become something he couldn't hope to defeat. Which I guess would be a most powerful GF as depicted on his ring.......odd.

Is it true that Squall has only started to love Rinoa since she fainted in the end of dics 2? So is it true that Rinoa is the one that loves Squall first?

^Yeah that's right I think, Rinoa definitely falls for Squall first. After awhile when Rinoa goes into the comma, suddenly Squall really misses her energetic attitude and her voice that's when he want's to hear her again and takes her to Esthar by himself. He later says; "What am I doing?" "I wonder what the others will think, they'll probably laugh at me" "I.......really have changed".
 
About the dull sky:

This is just what I believe. You may not agree and thats fair enough.

I believe that Rinoa found Squall dead and her whole world is shattered hence why the sky is horrible and dark. Then as she desends into her madness, the clouds open and the sun shines. she looks down and there is Squall "alive" in her mind
 
Wait, Wait... It's been ages since I completed it last but... SaphireStar, you just confused the Hell outta me... Squall didn't die did he? Argh, why did i read this thread... Now i have to complete the damned game again...
 
He just walked a whole lot without drinking. And collapsed after realising he walked al that way for nothing.
Then Rinoa comes and finds him unconsious. Cries about it and hurray the horrible curse is lifted. Although he forgot about everybody, somebody still rememberd him. Therefor he lives.
And they have a big party to celibrate.
Thats roughly what I think about it.

Not directly. Laguna gives Raine a ring because he was never able to come back to Winhill and marry her since she died giving birth to Squall.

As far as the ending, I've always seen the ending as a metaphor for Squall's mind-set. The endless desolate, dead earth and gray skies are representative of the isolation he has inflicted on himself. While he is "wandering," he is submerged in the psychological solitude he had convinced himself he wanted. When he collapses and Rinoa appears, it is his revelation that he wants, and needs, other people. Rinoa's appearance and Squall's revival signify him "waking up" and accepting that.
 
THE WHOLE STORY OF FF8 WAS SCREWY AND REQUIERD THE HIGHT OF MY UNDERSTANDING OF PARTICLE PHYSICS AT THE TIME TO UNDERSTAND....NOT REALLY IT WAS QUIET SIMPLE INFACT IT WAS SO SIMPLE THAT I JUST FORGOT THE WHOLE STORY AND MADE MY OWN WITH SQAULL AND THE GANG BASED IN ESTHAR THEY WOULD TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD FIGHTING THE WAR ON MONSTERS AND THIS WENT ON FOR 700 HOURS

nice! heh the game really coulda done with more SeeD missions eh?

On the Ending:
I liked the ending, though i had to play it through a few times to get the idea, i actually thought Squall was dead the first time, until i saw him in garden with Rinoa. Definitely confusing.
 
on the rings thing. as you play through the game you get various clues as to who are squalls parents, even tho he got left at the orphanidge, the rings are what clinches it for you.

also i ghope you watched the veeerryyy last lil snippet :)

now seen as they are all in every little piece of time that ever existed cos of time compression, so theoretically the can end up where their mind is taking them. however squall is drained and hes slipping from conciousness real fast. so he gets trapped in his thoughts, his nightmare. and as time compression unravells itself again rinoa needs to use her sorcery to save him.
