... Which characters would you have the story follow? I.e. In the main party for the majority of the game etc. This is just out of curiosity, and I'd prefer if people didn't moan about the series or make bitchy remarks like "None." hah. There's enough of those threads as it is. :)

SPOILER ALERT

I wouldn't mind learning more about Yuel, Caius and Noel.
They could make a really good series of episodes about those three and their survival in their world! I would quite like to know more about the series of Yuel's Caius has protected, actually. :)

When it comes to the original set of characters...I'm not as fussed about them... I really like Serah, but I don't really see what they could do with her character after XIII-2's ending... They may come up with something great though, and if they do, I won't be complaining! :)

I think Serah and Noel develop a more romantic relationship in whatever way they continue the series.
Obviously Serah died at the end of XIII-2, but I would like to see Noel trying to save her, be it moving through time or something.
I feel like they make a more believable and likeable couple than Serah and Snow.

I'd quite like to see Noel, Fang, Hope (at his age and maturity in Final Fantasy XIII-2) and Serah return, personally!

That’s a tough decision. For story, I would like Hope to have more involvement in a future instalment if there is one. If I were to cherry pick members for a battle A-Team, it would be Fang, Serah, and Hope. But who knows, there are so many possibilities and ideas flying around just now about what SE could give us….and I’m not clued up yet about what the DLC’s are going to give us yet either. So i dont know!

Well Square has indicated that it is very possible for a third installment. Depending on sales, user reviews ect. Well Serah's story is pretty much done barring some unforeseen miracle. As I got to know her more she kind of reminded me of Yuna a bit (the determination to do what's right no matter the personal consequences). I would like to see her story continued. Noel's no doubt. Snow's story was kind of left on a cliff hanger unless it continues in one of the alternate gates I have yet to unlock. I think Hope's will go on, it has to. His role would be expanded, that was implied at the end of the game that it would. We only saw Vanille and Fang for a few minutes so I would love to see some more of them. We barely saw Sazh too. He was one of the characters I genuinely liked from the original. I loved those hilarious comments he would make (Well I guess this is better than homicidal scorpion robots and mountains of trash). It goes without saying that I would like Lightnings story continue after that ending.

Square has a great opportunity to make a good trilogy out of XIII, and I hope they do.

If there were to somehow be a FFXIII-3..

I would like it to be a prequel and focus on Lightning in her army day's. No XIII characters should make any type of appearance but maybe some references would be ok i guess. Have Light go solo or introduce a new cast of characters to support her throughout the journey.

Rygdea and Cid can be seen in this game as well.

Highly doubtful.

^ Obviously, but i wouldn't want a XIII-3 any other way unless this scenario was present.

Oh I certainly agree with that! I just have no idea how Square are going to save Serah from the game's ending! and if they do, I would like it to be credible. Serah's credible revival is the ideal. :)

Perhaps her spirit remains in tact and close to her body because of the coming of chaos. In Valhalla, no one can live or die...So maybe she JUST escaped death and the destruction is actually a blessing? :wacky:

I'm just shooting arrows into the dark!

I would rather not have a X-2-like story and endings, with Noel searching for Serah throughout the game and then saving her in ONE paradox ending... That would be a bit... Ugh.

Ideal game = Serah isn't really dead. Noel and Serah must continue to work together to free Lightning and restore time. Noel and Serah fall in love. Snow...grows up and accepts it. (I LIKED him in XIII but in Sunleth Waterscape he treated Serah like an object which made me resent him. :hmph:)

Hopefully it will be about...

Hope, Sazh, Snow and Hope saving the world and fighting Caius time traveling across new worlds and Lightning smiling at the end.

well you have to restore Sarah

and rescue the others as well.
Anything less than this is unsatisfactory for me.

You need a good and satisfactory conclusion. Anything less is still unsatisfactory for me.

Some people seem to feel the gameplay of FFXIII-2 was enough.
For me an FF game needs to be about story/plot and character development first.

Gameplay comes later and graphics comes way down the line after that.

It's about time Square learned/relearned this. They seem to have forgotten it after Sakaguichi left and it's been lacking in their games since that time.:jon:

I hope there is a sequel. Though if it ended the way it did, I kinda like that too since you dont always see the "villians" win out.

Id say Hope, Sazh, Snow, and Noel would be the main characters. I think Serah should stay dead, more impact that way though she was a pretty good character. I can see her still being alive though since in Valhalla pretty much everything is screwed up and nothing seems to make sense.

SPOILER

Hence Caius being alive in the secret ending

SPOILER

Personally, I'd like for Serah and at least one of the other pre-existing female characters to come back, preferably Fang. It seems like all the male characters are fine, but the females are dead or incapacitated...

o_O
Now that I come to think of it, you are right lol.

(spoilers on XIII and XIII-2)
Most females in the game, Lightning, Fang, Vanille, Serah, Yeul, Jihl and Alyssa are either dead, cease to exist or crystallised. One of them even died countless times.

Is it too much to ask for one of them to be okay?!?!

I agree with the number of you who've said something along the lines of Hope, Sazh, etc. continuing to try and save the world.

(Spoilers?)
To me, it kind of makes a lot of sense to continue it this way (if it does get continued of course) and have Hope as the main protagonist. This time it would be a battle he has to lead what with his creation of Bhunivelze.

the only two characters I didn't hate were Lightning and Fang...Sahz was okay too(as long as his kid isn't involved) so I wouldn't mind seeing those guys again, but all the other characters could go away and I'd be happy.
I think they could just give some brand new ones a try. I also kinda thought they should use that big black guy with the red hair from NORA.

I'm all for the idea of a XIII-3. See, XIII and this game are a ying and yang paradigm within the gaming franchise as a whole. It's split fans up tbh. However, knowing the secret ending, which was cool but not worth getting all 160 fragments imo, they could work with that. I mean, some people have said that they left it quite confusing and didn't really delve too much into Caius and Lightning's battles and how they came to know each other, other than Etro showing Lightning that Valhalla is in trouble, and so is Gran Pulse. That's all being cleared up in a DLC chapter in May (for which I can't wait). If they did indeed make a 3rd part, I'd like to see it focusing on them going back in time, stopping Caius from the start, or seeing him where it all went wrong, when Caius turned from such a nice guy [as you see in the 'A Dying World' chapter].

Even though you see Serah dead at the end of the game, you see the Chaos spreading throughout Academia and morphing it into Valhalla, and Noel quotes something about "if you change the future, you also change the past" and then you hear Caius talking when he's supposedly meant to have died because he pulled Noel's sword into his heart. Caius is supposed to be immortal, I don't see how he could've died from that.
Maybe Hope would ask Noel how it would be possible for him to be able to time travel through the Historia Crux, even though the gates had disappeared and Hope would find a way of doing so, making them appear, or creating his own, seeing how he did so with Alyssa *b*tch!*. And maybe Snow would be along for the journey, too. I liked seeing him back in the game.

Leonhart's post has made me think again about something in the ending...
How can Caius be alive without the heart of Etro? If Etro has passed on, surely he must have done as well. :hmmm: This could be a plot hole or could be explained in future episodes/a future game.

I have a few theories:

  1. Chaos hasn't been unleashed, meaning that the world is still in tact. Caius is living his dream in the afterlife.
  2. The heart of Etro was never destroyed; Caius merely lost a life. We never hear about whether or not he dies and is reborn, do we? :hmmm:
  3. Following on from #2, it's possible that Lightning is meant to be in control of Chaos but has lost control, allowing Chaos to spread; she saw Serah die and in her dispair turned to Crystal, allowing it to leak into the world. She and/or others will regain control and restore the world in future episodes/XIII-3. Whether or not Serah will return again...I can't be certain, but who's to say that Serah IS dead? (I suppose she could be reborn herself, like Yeul! Lightning is in despair because she can see Serah's fate.)
  4. Another alternative after theory #2 is that Etro hasn't been destroyed, but has become too weak, allowing Chaos to spread into certain parts of the timeline, causing further extreme paradoxes, visions of which have killed Serah... Somehow, this will be fixed. :wacky:
  5. Also possible... All is well in the world! ;) Lightning has turned to Crystal because she is in rest as she watches over the world as the goddess, her battle having been completed. Caius is in 'heaven,' so to speak. Serah will live like Yeul, having suffered one vision, but has restored the timeline, meaning no major visions will kill her suddenly. :wacky:
Personally, I hope their resolution is far more impressive than all of those theories. :wacky:

@Yeul Kreiss Any theories? :)
