NieR: The Third Grimoire [tentative title]
Premise:
The year is 2100, and with the collapse of civilisation, mankind too faces extinction. As lives are claimed by the Black Scrawl Virus and the savage creatures called Shades roam the land, hope for salvation is steadily fading.
However, a small group of survivors in this world chance across a rumour that gives them a renewed hope - somewhere, in a long forgotten tomb, rests Grimoire Weiss, a book of incredible power. Such power would be sufficient to cure the Black Scrawl, drive back the Shades, and perhaps even vanquish their mysterious leader, the being known only as the Shadowlord.
Yet rumours spread. The Shadowlord knows of Grimoire Weiss, and he too searches for it...
Setting the RP in 2100 would give sufficient time for the Shadowlord to come into power. The world would still resemble its current layout as well...just everything would be in ruins.
Players could be from both sides - humans (or perhaps even Replicants? We can leave that open) trying to track down Weiss, and Shades trying to kill them (or perhaps even take them over, if they were Replicants).
Cameos would be limited to the Shadowlord, Grimoire Noir, Grimoire Rubrum (assuming anyone would be interested in playing that part) Popola and Devola, with Weiss open at a later date.
NieR has a lot of gaps in its story, so it'd be fun trying to fill some of them in...if anyone else is interested? ♥

Its never stated exactly what happens to Weiss after the initial stages of project Gestalt, but he is found sealed away, so I'd say its fairly safe to assume that Popola and Devola sealed him away, since the power of all of the Grimoires comes from them. Rubrum is a complete enigma, all that is really known of her is that she is female and was in the same experiment as Weiss and Noir. Rumours of Project Gestalt would probably rise among the remaining populace, so rumours of Weiss as well wouldn't be entirely unexpected.
No doubt the Shadowlord would seek Weiss as well so he could return to his original form, and Yonah to hers. I'd assume their Replicants would be alive at this point, meaning that they could perhaps be playable, although I'd assume they were in a sort of stasis.
The Shades trying to kill off the humans seeking Weiss isn't entirely unexpected either - if they're Replicants, they either possess sentience and have become a threat or have the Black Scrawl and have become defective. If they are humans they are probably unwitting carriers of the Grotesquerie Queen's Maso, a.k.a. the White Chlorination Syndrome, and would be the very thing they're trying to get rid of.
No doubt the Shadowlord would seek Weiss as well so he could return to his original form, and Yonah to hers. I'd assume their Replicants would be alive at this point, meaning that they could perhaps be playable, although I'd assume they were in a sort of stasis.
