I've had this idea in my head for a while now, and I've just gotten around to putting it down on paper...figured I'd see how many people were interested in it before I thought about finishing it off and starting it up.

Premise

Religion. Science. Countless times over the course of human history, both have predicted the end of the world, and of civilisation as we know it, at different points in time. Each time, they have failed, and life continues ever onward. Yet this has not deterred people from diligently predicting their demise. As it turned out, the End of civilisation came in a form that not one of them expected.

The meteor shower was expected, spotted long before its arrival, and it was predicted that none of the rocks would come even remotely close to colliding with the Earth. The calculations were precise, and not a single meteor impacted upon the Earth. However, what scientists did not foresee was that many did collide with the Moon, shattering it into fragments, and thus did the end begin. The sea, no longer under the control of the Moon, was thrown into chaos, creating destructive tidal waves that washed away many of the smaller islands of the world…and some of the larger ones.

However, humankind had one last refuge, one final defence against total annihilation: a space station, the technology finally perfected, had been under construction for several years, and now was the time to test it. They named the colony “The Ark” as a fitting testament to the efforts of scientific advancement and religious prophecy. The Ark could hold a grand total of two-hundred thousand citizens, and it was with heavy hearts that the governments of the United States and the European Union selected their best and brightest to board the Ark…leaving the rest of humanity behind, to face what would come once the fragments of the Moon collided with the Earth.

The devastation, three days later, was unprecedented. Fragments of the Moon destroyed cities, wiped out millions, split the very earth apart and dried up the oceans, and reduced many mountains to rubble. Within twelve hours, civilisation had come to an end, and the Earth had been irrevocably altered.

However, with the end came a new beginning. Those few survivors quickly found one another, and began to rebuild society once again. However, they quickly found that the Earth was no longer a hospitable place for them, and that mankind’s place as the dominant species of the planet had been cruelly ripped away from them, along with what was left of their former civilisation. Animal-life and even plant-life, as well as many of their own, fell victim to a mysterious infection, experiencing enhanced strength and vitality before, exactly one week later, succumbing to the influence of what they described as “The Voice” and becoming vicious, mindless monsters.

Mankind was quickly driven underground, there to sit in fear of the new race populating the planet, and resentment that they had been abandoned, cast aside so callously by those who dwelt in the Ark above. Many succumbed to despair, consigned to live underground for the rest of their days, however long that may be, as the resources humanity had relied upon for over two thousand years slowly dwindled down to nothing. However, there were those amongst them, ex-military officials and those simply unwilling to give up, who had a plan to eliminate the Moon using the abandoned nuclear missile bases, thus eliminating the threat once and for all…if they could just reach them. There are also those amongst them who have their own plans of revenge for those missiles, and will go to any lengths to see them become reality…

However, those aboard the Ark are not living the life of luxury those below believed. Fully half the ship has been corrupted by this unknown influence and, unlike those below, they have nowhere to run, and nowhere to hide. It is up to a small band of survivors to take back the ship, although the odds are against them, and time is rapidly running out…

Basic outline:

+ This RP would take place both on Earth and on the Ark. Those on Earth - which would be utterly destroyed - would be trying to reach the nuclear missile silos still active in some parts of the world, with the intent of destroying either what remains of the Moon or the Ark...it'd depend on how you designed your character, and what went on in the RP. Of course, they'd have to somehow get through the infected people/animals on their way there, whilst resisting the infection inside them...or becoming infected themselves.
+ Those on the Ark would be trying to take back those parts of the ship that been taken over, Dead Space style. Well, there would be a bit more to it than that, but I haven't designed the ship yet, so details would come at a later point~
+ I'm keeping the alien organism's objectives deliberately vague, since discovering those will be an integral part of the plot. However, there will be multiple colonies of sorts on Earth, and two emissaries, one for each location, who would both be playable.
+ Anyone infected with the alien organism would have enhanced physical or mental abilities, but after seven days, they would become mindless slaves. Everyone with this ability would need to be in their third day of infection at least, to make things...interesting. But I'd explain abilities and circumstances if this RP were to go ahead.
+ This RP would be set in 2013 and, although much of technology would be either destroyed or useless, it'd have a reasonably modern premise. Guns, phones, etc etc.

Aaand that is about it. So...any takers? If there are enough people interested (three to five, excluding myself) I'll try and get it started up. At the moment, I'm still trying to decide on a title.

I'm with Ringo here and I'll voice my interest as well. I love post-apocalyptic settings. They're both fun and creepy at the same time! :yay:

Plus I'll probably have a field day in describing and interacting with the environment of Earth based on the Fallout games' depiction of the post-apocalyptic world. :ryan:

I'm up for this of course. I have a character in mind already.

I wasn't expecting so many people to be interested in this :gasp:

Well, I'm currently in the process of writing up the summary - which will be extensive, because it covers the nature of the alien organism, the layout of the Ark, and the current state of the Earth - so, provided I can get on top of everything else (i.e. my other two RPs, Destiny and Children of Aether...particularly the former, since I have a horrible writer's block for finishing my other bios...) I'll have this posted up by the end of the week.

Since the RP will take place on both Earth and the Ark, I'm going to allow two characters per person, one for each location...although I'll probably allow more if people want them. I still need to do a little research before I'm ready to write this stuff up.

Nobody plan anything just yet - you might change your minds once you see the abilities different alien genes give to their hosts...well, up to the seventh day, when their brains are rendered dead and their bodies become nothing more than a lifeless husk in service to the Voice...but eh, I'll explain in detail in the summary. There will be a total of four different types to start with, but I will introduce more as the RP progresses...

...so, in short, I'm pleased people are interested in this :yay:
