Okay, so I've decided to replay this game. But since this is my fifth or sixth time revisiting the game I thought I'd try something different. I've searched various websites in search of an interesting challenge but couldn't find any I didn't find boring. Like NSG (No Sphere Grid) or IE (Initial Equipment) or OOC (Only One Character) they all seem boring and just tedious.

So I'm thinking of swapping roles, so that everyone will have the opposite role to what they start out with. Basically, I'll use the Expert grid so they all start out in the middle, then I'll move them all into the grid of the character opposite them. So...Tidus = Lulu = Rikku = Wakka = Kimahri = Auron = Yuna = Tidus.

It seems like it might be interesting and while Kimahri using Auron's grid might not be such a stretch, Tidus using Lulu's and Auron using Yuna's probably will be. I'll also have to wait a while until I get keys but I'll hopefully have them by the time I get Rikku at least. What do you guys think? Do you have any ideas on interesting challenges?

Also just had a thought, Kimahri doesn't really have an actual role, so if I go for this role reversal, which role should I assign Wakka? A Healer maybe? Or a Mage?

There are quite a few challenges people like to add to this game in order to make it more entertaining. The one you've suggested sounds different and interesting, I think you should try it.

Sounds like a fun idea. I can imagine it to be amusing to see Auron casting healing magic on everyone whilst Lulu takes out powerful enemies with her moogle. I may try this after I replay the game again. (Lost my memory card so I have to replay all my games to beat all the optional bosses, achieve Lv 99 etc. etc. )

How on earth would no Sphere Grid work?

I think this sounds like a lot of fun! :) Having Yuna take on Tidus' role should also be interesting as he does end up becoming reasonbly strong on his typical path.

Khimari was reasonably offensive rather than a healer or mage so I'd keep Wakka as an offensive character... You already have Tidus as a black mage and Auron as a white mage so that's all you need really! You could choose to balance Wakka between offensive and a black mage though. =]

The problem with having a "single Character" walkthrough is a couple things... one that one character will be leveled up to the point where they could kill anyone anyways by the end. two do you kill everyone everytime you go to a save point or something? 3 what do you feel after completing the game? I mean I never got the point of any challenges even "low level" "no summons" whatever else is out there, don't feel more accomplished, and besides that, usually people that do these don't do any side-quest cause their is no point (unless in this game your using Yuna...)

But still good luck :elmo:

I ended up putting Wakka as a white mage because at the begining of the game I had nobody to heal (Auron doesn't enter the party till Luca).

My typical party is Tidus (black mage), Kimahri (offensive) and Wakka (healing). I'm using a heap of Aeons this time though, I never realised before that they level up with Yuna and because she's getting lots of strength and agility from Tidus's grid the Aeons are getting it too and they are super powerful.

I'm in the Sanuba desert just now, my characters are pretty far into their grids and I'm going to have to think about where to put them next. I have to say though...it is funny watching Yuna take out enemies in one hit, And Wakka is a really good healer, he gets an awesome weapon from someone on the boat between Luca and Besaid for counting Gulls which grants him like 30+ magic.

Overall my party is working out better than I'd thought it would. Just goes to show that this game really does let you do whatever you want. The only thing is that Yuna and Lulu still have magic, so I've just got the ignore it, which isn't really hard to do. Cause you get Rikku further on she's behind the others in terms of being good, she's on Wakka's grid though and she's catching up.

My first ever FF experience was Final Fantasy X, in fact it was my first RPG experience. When i first played X, I had no idea about the concepts and elements of an RPG game. I actually got all the way to the point just after defeating Seymore and Anima, before i realised that you could make your characters stronger via the sphere grid. Prior to that, I had no Idea what the sphere grid was. Hahaha.

This happened to me too! I got as far as that stone monster thing between the calm lands and Mt Gagazet. I never knew what the sphere grid was before that. So I don't think it would be that hard to go through the game without the sphere grid, espetially if you knew more about weapons than I did when I first played the game.

I love doing this sort of thing!! :) I always make Yuna the black mage because her magic stats are higher, and I give Rikku all of Auron's stats once she gets all of her main abilities/goes through all of her speed nodes... she becomes a total physical powerhouse who attacks for like 9999 every other turn, sometimes twice in a row if she's under Haste :) it's fun.

I've never tried making, say, Auron a healer, or Yuna a tank, though. I should try! :D

Yeh I think it would still be a real challenge! Dark Aeons with no sphere grid is probably as hard as you can get. However! Yojimbo's one hit kill could probably get you through most of the game without the sphere grid. Did the one hit kill work against dark aeons? It has been so long since I played the game that I can't remember.

I don't think so, but you don't have to defeat the Dark Aeons to complete the game. I'm pretty sure it'd be impossible to defeat them with no sphere grid  wouldn't want to try.

Yeh. Regardless, I will never ever be attempting this feat lol. However, I did do something with Final Fantasy VIII that could be considered a challenge. When I first moved to live in Spain, I brought everything with me apart from a PS1 memory card, so I couldn’t save my PS1 games with my PS2. Well, I got really bored one day and decided I would see how far I could get in FF8 without a memory card. I got all the way to some point around Centra Ruins when I was getting Odin. I think I also had just got Bahamut but I wasn’t going to risk going back in to have a crack at Omega coz without a memory card it wasn’t worth the risk. But I was going strong! Then that night I had just got into bed, and I heard the power dip, so I jumped up and turned my TV on to find that the bloody ps2 had been affected and it was restarting! DAAAAAAMMMNNN!!

But yeh, if anyone is looking for a challenge that is actually quite easy. Try completing FF8 Without saving at any point.
