What would be irreplaceable to you if you lost all of your things in a flood, fire, robbery etc etc?

I was just thinking about this after I saw Kelly and Damon in the shoutbox talking about one of them losing their Disney DVD's or something or other.

To me that would be devastating and it's pathetic that I think that way, but I do so love my Disney DVD's. <3

As they said in the shoutbox, Disney freakin' lock them in the vault and only let them out every 10 years or something like that and then the only place to get them is on ebay, amazon etc where they cost a freakin' fortune! And there's no guarantee you'll get the one you want. <_<

I was discussing with Steve the other day how I would not give a shit if something happened to the lounge, the room furniture, washing machine, clothes etc, as we have insurance and I can buy those things back and it's not something I would really be picky about. I would enjoy getting to pick out new furniture and a new range of clothes.

But with my Disney DVD's I have to try and get back every single one I had before and that would take forever. :gonk: It's giving me a headache just thinking about it.

We got onto the topic initially because we were thinking of moving overseas to live for a couple of years and we didn't know whether to put our stuff in storage or sell it.

I remember Steve saying we could put things we definitely wanted to keep in storage, such as my Disney DVD's and me saying how it would probably flood and they'd be destroyed. Then he said something about letting my parents look after them and I said no that they wouldn't take care of them the way I would.

Then he said, 'Well then we can ship them over on the plane/boat.'

And I said no the boat will sink knowing my luck or the plane will lose them when I go to get my things. <_<

I swear there really is a lose screw in my head. I worry about the dumbest things!!!

I can buy pretty much everything I own again, I guess I have a few handmade gifts and whatnot but I'm not really fussed about them. It would be a pain repurchasing all of my material possessions though

i wouldn't say so much my disney dvd's as my entire dvd collection. i've got a few thousand pounds worth of dvd's and i've spent a few years buying them. none are exactly rare or anything, and i could easily buy them again, but i'd be fairly gutted if i woke up one morning and they'd all disappeared.

Everything i have can be replaced i suppose. Things like my guitar though if that were to burn i would be devastated but again it can be replaced. Lets face it if yer house burns down yer gunna be absolutely mortified about it regardless.
I dont really have anything i hold very dear to me. A few photos maybe, but theyre stored online anyway. And my jim adkins photo that kelly painted for me :gasp2: I would be gutted that was missing

I suppose I was a bit dramatic with the titling of this thread as my DVD's can be replaced obviously, it would just be horrible to try and do so given how rare some of them are at certain times. v_v

I can't think of a better title at this point right now though. >.<

I thought of another thing though. My Steve. =0 If he got washed away or burned I couldn't exactly replace him. >.< Though I don't think he would be classed as my belongings as such. :hmmm:

:hmmm:

Well, I have a photo album that's pretty dear to me, with photos of myself and my family going back quite a while and I'd be terribly gutted if that's ever lost in a fire because it really is one of my most treasured things. Secondly I suppose would be my artwork collection, which I keep neatly sleeved in a portfolio. There are some amazing hand-drawn pieces in there that I would love to keep forever, and near impossible to reproduce in the exact way I want it if they're lost as well.

Other than that, everything else I suppose can be bought again, I suppose. It would be a royal pain in the arse, but as long as I don't lose the actual treasures that I can't really repurchase.

Fire/flood/tornado...these things usually happen so fast you have literally seconds, if not minutes, to be able to collect yourself and what you really need before you can avoid harm's way or become caught in it.

Personally, I know I'd be lucky if I could manage to get my purse, car keys, some photos, medications, and If I were lucky my laptop ( Just paid $1,000.00 and it will be coming with me :hmph:).

Things are replaceable though and people are not. I try not to think too much about losing it all someday because homeowner's insurance would only cover some of it...but if you think like that everyday thats not healthy either. I just try and take every day one day at a time. Otherwise I'd be worrying like crazy about pretty much everything :lew:

I would die inside if my house burned down.

Firstly my biggest object I would be devastated without would be my house. A lot of blood and sweat and tears has been put into this thing, I had it built up as I liked it to my personal taste, it's my pride and joy and i would die if something happened to it. I don't think I could replace it.

Secondly special things given to me by friends and family, I have a lot of stuffed animals that my friends have given me and i love them because they all have a special meaning. The toys could be replaced but the meaning couldn't. One in particular my grandma gave me, I would be so sad if it got ruined. Same with jewellery etc given by family.

Next would be anything like drawings and pictures made for me and photos, I don't have all my photos on a PC, some are paper form, it would be horrible if they got burnt

Everything else (besides my pets and sister, but lets assume they don't burn in a fire) can be replaced, I would be sad to lose it all but i would not be devastated.

i think everything i own can be replaced

Well. alsmost everything. the cat and kid aside, id say the thing that would be the worst would be photographs, ive not got all of them on my pc and yeah i donmt look at them a lot, but every now and then i do like to take a stroll through the past. ive got a box of random memories as well, and my notice board full of stubs from gigs and other memorable events... i guess that would be quite gutting.... a few select teddies and gifts...

As daft as this sounds, Ive got a foil ball, and ive had it since i was 11. its actually older than half the member base and it started out as a screwed up kit kat wrapper which just kinda grew as i added the foil of other chocolate bars to it and now its quite the beast

Ive got a solid silver charm braclet that id have to rescue as well, i dont even keep it in my jewellry box, just in case.... ive had it since i was christened and i very rarely wear it, also just in case lol.... i used to wear it quite a lot but over the years its took some damage/lost a few charms, so it can just come out for special occasions these days

I think thats it... all my games and DVDs while gutting, could just be re-bought, albeit it might be tricky getting hold of some stuff, the things above are irreplacable

Ohhhhhh my paintings :|
