Happened to catch 'Swing Girls' on television. So, thanks to the show, I'm rather interested in Jazz. However, this is a genre that I have never stepped into before. In short, I'm totally clueless about any famous tunes that falls under this category.

Yet, I'm still keen to listen to more Jazz pieces. Right now, I only know those played in the movie, in particular, 'Sing Sing Sing With A Swing' by Louis Prima.

Okay... So, recommend something to me?

Something like Kind of Blue or Sketches of Spain by Miles Davis is a decent starting point. Or maybe Mingus Ah Um by Charles Mingus.

Oeh! jazz! :D

My personal recommendations:

- Charles Mingus - Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Some really nice tunes on this album, varying from upbeat to love songs. It opens with II B.S., one of my favorite jazz songs ever.

- Dave Brubeck Quartet - Take Five A album featuring some nice laidback jazz songs. The title track is a very recognizable tune, maybe you've heard it before.

- Soil & "Pimp" Sessions - Pimpoint Very energetic jazz by a bunch of Japanese weirdo's. Listening to these guys always gets me into a good mood. For those who know the intro song from Cowboy Bebop, this band plays the same style of music.

And I don't like vocal jazz, except for good ol' Frank Sinatra. I can't really recommend a specific album of him, but you can never go wrong with a best of compilation.
