Katy Perry reportedly asked husband Russell Brand to file the couple's divorce papers because she didn't want to upset her religious parents.

British comic Brand yesterday filed papers to divorce the pop star in Los Angeles, citing "irreconcilable differences", ending their 14-month marriage.
Sources close to the star couple told TMZ that Perry asked Brand to take the lead because she was raised in a Christian home by parents who believe divorce is wrong.

According to TMZ, the couple's relationship was reportedly on the rocks for two months prior to their official split.

Brand and Perry spent Christmas holidays apart after having a 'huge fight', US Weekly reported yesterday.

Perry has been in Hawaii while Brand spent the holidays in Britain.
Divorce rumours were already swirling after Brand and Perry were both photographed without their wedding rings in recent days.

The couple, who married in India on October 23 last year after a whirlwind romance, have no children but the court documents describe "community property assets," which allude to possible earnings and assets acquired during their marriage, said TMZ.

Brand, a recovering drug and alcohol addict with a reputation as a womaniser, found fame as a comedian and later as a TV and radio presenter in Britain, before starring in the popular Hollywood films "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Get Him to the Greek".

Perry, 27, is famous for the hit songs, "Teenage Dream" and "I Kissed a Girl."

I thought that this was a bit sad.

They were such a cute and odd couple, but unfortunately odd doesn't always work. =/

I'm curious to know what this 'huge fight' was about that they keep mentioning. None of my business but I'm curious none-the-less.

It says that Katy asked Russell to file for divorce so that she didn't upset her parents by doing it herself, yet now they'll know she's gone and asked him to do it anyway with all these articles. >.<
 
And this comes as a surprise to...absolutely no one. In fact, I'm shocked that it even lasted this long, though this is coming from someone who has never really been a fan of either of them, so it's obviously coming across as no surprise to me. Why they're divorcing, I don't really care either, though I've been seeing multiple versions, from Russell disapproving of Katy's partying and choice of friends (lolwhut?), to his aggravation at Katy putting career before children (yes, how dare a woman think about concentrating on a career first before having kids!).
 
I'm surprised they lasted this long - I heart Katy though, and I'm not the biggest fan of The Brandster so... ya know. xD :)
 
Celebrity relationships never last long, if they last at all, so this doesn't really come as a surprise to me. Typical celebrity behaviour if you ask me.

This is very sad for Russell Brand mhm aha, perhaps it is quite sad for Katy ah yeds.
However this is very good news for people who have been secretly and perhaps not so secretly lusting after Katy ah yeds. mhm aha they are celebrities and they never manage to stay married long, like Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love.
Katy is very pretty mhm aha ah yeds stukahfulisaahaa.
 
I only heard on the news yesterday that they were 'madly in love' quote from ITV news... they kinda failed at that one..... but this doesn't comes at much of a surprise to me really, 14 months is sadly about normal for these types of relationships nowdays it makes me quite sad :sad3: and I worry alot about my relationships...... stupid people rushing into things :/
