Hey there everyone, here's the opening to my next series: Final Fantasy 8!

FF8 is a turn-based JRPG with random battles that was introduced to us all back in 1999. The characters, for the most part, are hugely entertaining to be around and the music is some of the best we've seen in an FF to date. This is the same for the cutscenes too, which are amazingly well-made from the get go.

FF8 was made for the PS1, but was later made available for the PC and, later still, over psn. So if you own a PS3, go download it now! It's only £8 for an all-time classic! (On time of writing, a FF sale is on the psn store, so you can get it for £4).

Anyways, regardless of all the positives this game has, it's one of the more marmitey (love it or hate it) FF games. Some people found the draw/junction system confusing (this won't be a problem for us throughout this series). Some people disliked the more realistic approach to the overall world and characters within. And some people didn't like the way that the monsters level up with you on the world map.
Still, I love it. And I'm hoping you will too!

Here's a link to wikipedia to find out more about Final Fantasy 8. I've had a read through and it seems pretty reliable and all that:

And here is the opening that I've recorded so that you can get a feel for it before I start tomorrow or the next day:

It's gonna be long. It's gonna be tough. But we can do it guys! I've been aching to lp an rpg for a long time now, and it's been a while since Eternal Sonata.

Anyways, this opening is the one shown when you don't press start or anything before the "New Game, Continue" main menu.

This entire game (including music, artwork, enemies, characters, and everything else) was made entirely by Square and not me. All that will be mine in this series is my commentary and playing.

See you in a bit! I can't wait to get started on this one! :)

Part 1 - Squall's Training

http://youtu.be/ooSkxxX2mEA

Hello people, this time around we have a very lengthy lp of Final Fantasy 8! We'll be kicking things off with the opening and seeing a bit of what Balamb Garden is all about. From the stunning scenery to the school aura, this episode introduces one of the best places of any Final Fantasy.

Also in this episode, we get introduced to both the main character (Squall) whose fight with Seifer (his school rival) has left him a bit injured and behind work-wise. Next up is the introduction of Quistis Trepe (the instructor). She's fun, and ever so young. This means two of our overall party are together, ready to take on the world!

Finally, we find out that we're so behind in our "schoolwork" that we have yet to complete the prerequisite for the field exam, so that's what we'll have to prepare for.

P.S. We find ourselves 2 GFs in this episode: Shiva and Quezacotl. Both are incredibly handy as you'll see throughout.

I hope you enjoy and I'll see you in the next episode!

Oh my gooooosh ! I love FF8 ! :yay:

Hey if want any tips or advice just ask.

One tip that I give you right now is for the Tomb of the Unknown King. Just go right and always go right. After you have fought the first Brother GF and closed the bridge and brought out the water you'll end up outside again. Don't worry just save and head back inside, this time just go straight ahead till you run into both of the Brothers and viola !

You should be done and out of there faster than a flying Chocobo.

About cards in my opinion it's better to get as much as rare cards and character cards as you can before going to Timber. Because later on, stupid and dumb rules like random start to come in. You can get rid of random, but things like... elemental and open and bullshit start to come in, so I reckon personally it's better to look online and see what need for weapons and do as much as you can before seeing Rinoa in Timber.

You might do better though, but honestly cards starts out real fun and then about CD 2 it turns into a huge frustration because of all the new BS rules that come into play.

Good luck and I'll be watching you !
:watching:
Hahhaha, that sounds so stalkerish. 8(

Hell yeah Greeny. When you get to the part I'm stuck at, I'm totally gonna copy everything you do in the video! Mwhahahahahaha!

Yeah, I'm being completely serious. I'm stuck and this game pisses me off. So I'm gonna use your video to get me the hell out of the area I'm stuck at.

Ah thanks, that info about the Tomb of the Unknown King will come in really handy. I always get lost there. As for the cards, I'm not really planning to play them much for the lp. Maybe for the best weapons near the end (although I understand that it would be better to get the cards earlier on).

And stalk away. It's ever so flattering :ari:
JeriKane1998 - What part are you stuck at Jeri?

I'm at the part where we have to go to that mansion to get clues? and use them to find a certain area. I remember they were telling us to rent a car, but once I leave the area, I always get lost.

This is right after the whole thing with the TV station and the first time we see the witch lady final boss.

(OMGawd, I know this is horrible. It's been a while since I've last played! XD)

Ok, I can't quite think of what part that is, because you only get asked to rent a car at one point, and I'm not sure that it's by there. Anyways, we'll see when I get there ;)

If I remember your actually supposed to go on a train there in Timber. That is where the tv station is, you can walk or take a car as well. But your supposed to head to that first train stop and head through the forest to get to Galbadia Garden.

Part 2 - The New Girl

http://youtu.be/q0s-5u37q-Y

Welcome back to Final Fantasy 8! This time around, we are left to explore Balamb Garden for a while, so intending to do this we head down the corridor. It looks like we are going to help show the new girl around though (optional), but that's not such a bad thing. With this, we head to the directory and find out that we can teleport anywhere within the Garden with it. We learn what each place is useful for, and make a move over to the library for a draw point.

We also have a go at triple triad, which...goes swimmingly. Finally we head on over to the front gate to meet Quistis, where we learn about junctioning our GFs. If we didn't get Shiva and Quezacotl earlier, then we would get them now.

And finally, we have a go at our first battle out on the field map. I show how to draw, attack and the special attack that Squall does if you time the R1 trigger press just as the blade hits the enemy. It's pretty tricky to get the time right, but once you figure it out, it's pretty amazing. Like a critical hit every turn with Squall.

So, see you in the next episode when we take on the Fire Cavern (the prerequisite for the field exam)!

The Junction system can be fun and addictive, so it has it's flaws and it's good things about it. Though it's not this... horrible, disgusting system that should be trashed like some fans make it out to be.

BTW Green Blud what do you think of the Squall is Dead theory ?
:hmmm:

I love the junction system. I think it should be more limited so that you don't get over-powered when you put enough magic on a character, but it's fun. I don't really take part in these theories that are obviously false. Fans can have fun making these ideas up (that's half the fun sometimes), but I can't be arsed :lew:.

Part 3 - A Fiery Prerequisite

http://youtu.be/a3CJideHx-U

Ok folks, it's time to take on that Fire Cavern that Quistis has been nagging us about, so let's get it done! It only takes this one episode, and that includes the boss and me showing you a few new enemies, so it's not so bad. The boss is incredibly interesting though...I don't think we've fought him since FF6?

Anyways, we get the cavern done within the time limit and head back to just outside Balamb Garden.

See you next time! :)

Yayyy!!

Though, question for the LP Greeny: Will you be building a specific type of team, or just going balls to the wall mixture?

Also, will there be any preferences in teams??

ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNDD... Are you going to even out levels by killing squall??!!! :mokken:

I would like to suggest ifrit be junctioned to Squall-ifer- best combo imo. :sir:

I'll just be choosing all the characters, considering most of the time you are forced to use certain ones anyway. And the end makes you use them all.
I do have my prefered team. You'll see that when we get there (got to keep something to look forward :sir: ).
I'm not gonna kill Squall to even out levels. I'm gonna go all natural in that sense.
Aye, Ifrit is good for Squall because of the strength bonuses, if I remember right. What's the "ifer" part? Seifer?

Ahhh, nice. I like that, since it gives players a kind of feel for the party's they could pick...:hmmm:

:sir:... I don't know why, but I just think your preferred party will have Selphie and Quistis in it... I know mine had atleast one of them... Or Rinoa.

YAY!! Naturals are always softer....I mean, natural runs always make for better viewing. ^^

:sad3: I just thought ifer's made names even coolier.... But definitely. I junctioned Squall with the Strength bonus and now he's maxed out on my current game(Which I'll probably pick up again now.:hmmm:)

You can make the 10 mins in the cavern however you have to really escape from all battles and have tons of ice magic and have a high-ish level and boost with Shiva.

Don't know if it's worth though though, because A) it takes a while and b) If you get a low SeeD level you can just do tests and change that later on.

Same with beating up the Spider Robot on the Dollet mission. It's possible but takes soooo much effort before-hand and tedious drawing and summoning just to make it happen.

Though for that once- in- a -playthrough experience I recommend it just to say " Hey I did that ".
:dave:

[ Like when Squall said to Rinoa when they first had sex ] :britt:

Yeah, I just can't be bothered to go to too much effort for the 10 minutes/spider robot when there's no real point in it. Like you say, the tests are easier and so much quicker. I guess I could try it once (for the spider robot) :hmmm: . Maybe.
