Hello friends..
I have never played Final Fantasy XIII ever before so I don't know anything about Lightning. I read many good things about her on Internet, but want to know your views. Just wondering what she like and what's her background? I read somewhere that she is like a female version of Cloud. Can anyone confirm this?

Hi, I've heard a lot of people say Lightning is like Cloud. Although there are similarities between the two I would disagree that she is the female cloud. You learn her back ground quite early on in the game so I won't give you her info other than she is a soldier (theres the similarity). You should play the game and find out for your self. It is in my opinion the best rpg around at the moment. Mainly because I feel that other rpg's on next gen consoles are half hearted attempts that could be released on ps2.
 
She's kinda hardcore but begins to soften up after a while. shes not like cloud much. She used to be a soldier who was strict and what not...Play the game to find out the rest.
 
Lightning is decent combatant, she has good attack style and some of the better Full ATB skills of all characters.......but she is not the best protagonist IMO, and its not that she has alot of similarity with Cloud , because playing it I soon got the feeling she was entirely different to Cloud.

Her mannerism are stoic and Duty bound and she relies on her Psicom training to help with her new role as a L'cie..........some spoilers but you kinda asked for it.
 
Lightning was a better protagonist I feel then I have seen in the more recent Final Fantasys.
What I do know, is that she is not like Cloud emotionally.
She doesn't have that whole depressed look on her, at least not for a majority of the game.
 
I believe she is MUCH more like a female version of Squall than Cloud. But she is also an entirely new type of character. She is very stoic and prefers to keep to herself, but she cares for her sister greatly and wants to protect those that she feels need protection. She is my favorite final fantasy character (though XIII is not my favorite game) because of how strong and fearless she is. She's also quite lovely=) She battles extremely well, I always had her as my leader, and I do LOVE her Eidolon (you'll see). She's quiet and stoic, but no emo like Squall and Cloud were. She's also not awkward at all, she's totally in control.
 
Nomura was asked to make a female version of Cloud so it's open to interpretation really, she does look like Cloud visually but that could be nothing more than being down to Nomura's art style, yet, it could indeed be deliberate. It could also mean, a "female Cloud" in terms of being a figure head, a new face of Square-Enix, as you will.
 
personally I don't think she's the female version of Cloud. Cloud has a really traumatic past (village burned down by a hero,mother murdered,mako poisoning,Zack dying in order to protect him,realizing all his memories were fake,realizing he never made it to SOLDIER,friend/love interest murdered) so he's more depressed and emo.Lightning's tough,fearless and is an independent woman and ...more cold compared to Cloud.She was also a bit bitchy at the beginning of FFXIII but shows a more caring side later on.I like them both,I think they both make great protagonists :)
 
The Cloud comparison only comes into design and ability and some personality. As Nomura said in a few interviews, the idea for Lightning was to make a female-version of Cloud. That means in both appearances and in combat ability -- in short, a woman that kicks ass.

I even found pictures to show you the physical design similarities. Here is Lightning:

The most similar thing is the hair, though Lightning's isn't as spiky as Cloud's.

That's really all the major similarities. Like Cloud, Lightning was also made to fit the role of someone that is disciplined (read: soldier), is a leader with a goal in mind motivated by revenge, and is the massive-damage dealer of the party via non-magic means.

So yeah.

Also, despite what lots of other folks have been saying, Cloud wasn't all that emo. That's taint caused by the damn movie. He's no more emo than Lightning. Please compare (because the character's personalities are surprisingly similar as well).

Both Cloud and Lightning have lost someone most dear to them. For Lightning, this was her sister. For Cloud, this was his only family member -- his mother -- and supposedly the major love interest (Tifa). They've both been driven from their homes. They both go on a quest to get revenge: Lightning against Sanctum/Eden for trashing her family and life, Cloud against Shinra and Sephiroth for trashing his family and life. Both characters start out as uncaring hardasses, but soften up quite a bit towards the middle/middle-end. And they both ultimately rely on their friends to win the day.

Where is the emo in that equation? Precisely. Nowhere. Both characters are primarily motivated by rage and/or revenge: it's just MUCH easier to actually see and portray that motivation with Lightning due to the fact that her game has voice actors, more lines, more cutscenes, and *gasp* actual facial expression (which is big, because a lot of things are conveyed through mere body language).

So, all considering, I'd have to say YES. They're very much the same in design, ability, and personality. Now, that personality is hard to pin down as 'just how a soldier would act' or it being a part of the actual character. At that point, it's pretty much speculation, so it's anyone's guess. Nonetheless, there you have it. Lightning is essentially a female Cloud. I'm guessing they did this to appeal to the female base.

Um.........Kusanagi San I dont think you can say that? the OP has no problems with spoilers so Im not sure you can say that either? or have it moved to the Spoilers section if there is one?

Lightning is somewhat underwhelming to me she has no real ooomph factor, She is for all intents and purposes the leader of the
Pulse Fal'cie,
but I would rather they follow
Fang with her being from Pulse
plus she is kick ass and enjoys telling others about just look at the stuff she says to Monsters.

That being said
,Light its her nickname,
is a wielder of a
gunblade
so she wins some point there,
but you dont get to use the Trigger function like in FFVIII

And FFXIII really could have used it to break up the linear gameplay, how much fun it would be to reel of her Attack Sequence and have to time the trigger........:awesome:

I'm just asking. OP may not mind about this game being spoiled, but others might seeing it's not a spoiler section. Also that post had an FF7 spoiler that I knew nothing of. So you see I wasn't expecting FF7 info of Cloud because I haven't played the game yet(I played segments but not enough to know of the whole storyline). I was however able to take XIII spoilers as I've finished the game myself.

I'm only pointing out the character motivation parts, but still, ^^
 
I see your point lol but you would not see that occurring would you? somebody asking for Spoilertags to be used in a thread about game that has just been released, but actually meaning story element from a game released more than a decade earlier lol

Stores don't sell the game anymore around here and I don't know how to buy things on the internet yet....nor do I trust using my credit card on teh interwebz.

Thread topic attempt again:

After beating the game last Saturday, I have to say that Lightning is def on of my favorite heroines in the FInal Fantasy series because of her quietness and her commanding nature. She's quite the leader and takes control only when control need's to be taken. She is definitely what I love in a character.
