Martian Sucssesor Nadeisco

I remember watching Nadesico during Sci-Fi UKs brief flirtation with showing anime series, and am very glad I saw it. It's a terrific series (though I remember the rushed way the last episode concluded driving me nuts) with the all important great cast of characters. Especially loved Gai, Ruri (as someone said, Sasami crossed with Wednesday Addams) and the way the show regularly made fun of anime cliches and the general fanboy nature of the some of the characters. It also does a reasonably good job of walking the comedy/drama tightrope, which can be a tricky one at times.

The Aestivalis song in one episode is especially funny XD - have never seen the film though.
