Mist????

Ok so I was beating the crap outta Vayne Agian last night and it hit me.... does it ever say what mist is and how it mutates MON-MONs so freaking much.... I was just wonderin what it actually is... I know nethacite Absorbs it but it doesnt create it... wont someone help me solve this riddle????

It's a straight copy/paste job I know but this is taken from "Sage Knowledge", a drop from zombies. All it really says is that the mist is naturally occurring. I couldn't find any more on the topic.
