Taking a note from Fable or KOTOR, do you think adding decision making and morality into a FF would be a good idea? Certain decisions that can change the outcome of the game, usually a choice between something correct and something not. Rather than good and evil, because in FF being the good guy is kind of important, but something else like corrupt and pure (fable). Maybe the be the good guy who doesn't want friends, he likes to help people but chooses to keep himself to himself and has a kind of 'lone wolf' persona. Then if taking the other choice he becomes a friendly hero, someone who trusts people easilly and enjoys company. All leading to a different ending and a different storyline.

I for one would love this!

Personally I don't dig the whole 'decision-making' thing because I feel that the whole development of the game wouldn't be as strong in certain aspect as they should be. (Development of a character and backstory for instance). Basically I prefer the whole game map out already for me like a regular storyline should be - none of these "if I choose this, will the character turn corrupt?" Not that I don't want the character to turn corrupt or not...that's not the issue...I just don't want to have to restart all over just to find out the other alternative storyline or ending. I wouldn't really have the patience for it, but knowing me I'd do it anyway just because I love FF that much. Like for instance, choosing a gender for your character in the beginning...I don't like those. =x It makes me lose interest right away for some reason because I know the storyline might be as generic as they come so that it applies for both gender.

But that's just my thoughts. If they do this to a FF game, I'd still play it although I doubt I'd be too happy with it.

While I like the decision aspect, I think it would be problematic for FF. The entire game is premised on story and character development. The "Decision Tree" paradigm seems to work best in games like KOTOR where the main character is an everyman, and it does not really matter who they are: They are allowed to be customizeable. FF needs strong leading characters.

I could envision an interesting mechanic whereby the "choices" the main character makes increases or decreases the difficulty of boss fights throughout the game. In otherwords, the character's choices could provide that character advantages or disadvantages in actual gameplay, without significantly altering the story. Thoughts?

I think that givin the option to become corrupt in a final fantasy it wouldnt then really be a final fantasy game because when it comes down to crunch final fantasy is good vs evil. However character choices which give the player advantages/disadvantages i think is a pretty good idea as long as it wouldnt alter character development/storyline. Good idea =)

I like it in Fable, however, like everyone else, in wouldn't work in Final Fantasy because as an RPG it relies on a strong storyline with a strong character development. Furthermore, there isn't as much freedom in Final Fantasy, in the Fable series the game relies solely on decisions pretty much and A LOT of interaction with NPCs, whereas, in Final Fantasy it isn't really. It wouldn't work therefore I wouldn't want it implemented.

FF should stay linear for a reason. It sticks to a story.. told for one or a group of people, and to alter that would make the game not worthy of discussion other than the game play.

That's why MMO's are out there. You can choose whatever you want to do with your characters.
