The next iteration of the venerable Mortal Kombat series was announced by Warner Brothers this morning and promises a return to brutal form for the game series. To be released on the PlayStation 3 and 360 in 2011, Mortal Kombat is being developed by the newly re-named NetherRealm Studios, led by Mortal Kombat creator and creative director Ed Boon.

The Fatality is back and will be "presented in more gory detail than ever before." In addition, Mortal Kombat introduces a number of new game-play features including tag team and deep story mode. Players can choose from a lineup of the game’s iconic characters, and the usual 1 vs. 1 matches are back as well as several new game modes, including four-player “tag-team” fights, and two-player team ups in the new “Co-op Arcade Mode." You'll be able to compete against another team online too.

“We can’t wait for players to get their hands on Mortal Kombat,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios. “This game really is a response to what players have been demanding: mature presentation, reinvented 2D fighting mechanic and the best, most gruesome fatalities ever!”

While it looks very impressive, a fighting game lives and dies on the precision of its controls and the delicate balance between characters, so we'll all have to wait a bit to see if the game lives up to the famous name of the series. I, for one, am very excited.

When I first clicked on this thread, I thought my comment would be negative. But the trailer looks amazing IMO. I bought Deadly Alliance for the PS2 and I stopped playing MK after that. I thought it was awful.

But this looks great. I'm glad they're going back to 2D fighting plane even though the characters are in 3D. It's a bit like Street Fighter 4. The best MK games were the ones done in this style I think.

Looking forward to seeing more. Those fatalities look pretty epic. :wacky:

i also saw a life action trailer on vg247 i believe, its either for the new game or a new movie, i thought i saw michael j white in it,either way,it looked amazin, but yeah deadly alliance kind of sucked, hope this one will be refreshing. i loved the one on ps1 with smoke and noob saibot.

Omg I thought so too Dead Alliance was just :ffs:
>_<
but yes, the trailer you posted it got me back into MK :ryan: It looks faaaannntastic :D!
and i agree Graye the fatalities look epic xD.
The ending of the trailer was hilarous :wacky:

(y) looks fricking awesome.

That Fatality for Kung Lao is too brutal, even for Mortal Kombat standards.

I'm not a major fan of MK but I will admit the game looks pretty interesting so far with the 2-on-2 combat. I also see 3 of my favorites are in already; Mileena, Kung Lao, and Reptile. If they bring back Baraka and Scorpion then I will most likely buy it the day it comes out, provided they don't do anything to screw up the game until then.

Here is a video of Ed Boon's interview that was cast on E3 2010 for those of you who couldn't see it. On this video it shows you some gameplays, combos, fatalities and the new special move which is called the X-ray move. It also shows a tag team fight and explains some details that they put in the game. Hope you guys enjoy watching this awesome video of the upcoming Mortal Kombat game.

looks ehhh. only good fighting game left for me is tekken. i still play UMK3 though, its the greatest fighting game of all time!

I just hope that the game goes back to the fast action fighting, no more of this moving like a turtle bullshit. I miss the old games, MK2 in particular was my favorite on Sega Genesis. I also hope that Reptile doesn't have that stupid ass animal look to him in this game. I just want the standard ninja green outfit on him.
And about Deadly Alliance I fully agree. It pissed me off when Liu Kang died and for a game or 2 he was made as a zombie with chains. I still love the MK series, but the games as of late haven't really tickled my fancy like they used to. Hopefully this one will bring me back into the games.

As said earlier, it's definitely a good thing that they're returning to the 2D roots. If combos are as customizable as they were in MK3, we're definitely looking at a worthy competitor to SSF4 in the 2D fighting scene.

This new MK looks extremely brutal, already by its trailer I can tell it's gonna be more brutal than any of the MKs from before. :8F:

Seriously though, MK vs DC disappointed me immensely, but seeing as how it's going back to 2D now, looks like this MK is showing massive potential. Looking forward to playing it.

The most recent Mortal Kombat game is horrible in my opinion. Mortal Kombat is one of the two fighting franchises that I consider to be worth my time and this game is my most anticipated game so far.

When you say horrible do you mean horrible as in brutal or as in just bad? I'm guessing you mean brutal.

So far I've been following this game quite a bit lately and I have to say, this game really looks like this will be a day 1 purchase for me. The fatalities that were shown look awesome so far. I can't wait to see what the rest look like. *still prays for Baraka*

I thought it was just bad. The toned down fatalities and other parts killed it for me. Without the classical fatalities, Mortal Komat does not seem to be right to me. I felt that the most recent game was not a true Mortal Combat game.

Classic fatalities are nice but I would prefer for them to switch up and show creativity by giving characters new fatalities. Sure sometimes the are bad but sometime they turn out good.

For example, Scorpion has had the same Toasty fatality from the first to the fourth game. I thought it was nice how MK5-7 gave him a break from Toasty while still giving him some cool new fatalities.

More variety in fatalities is something that I would like to see in the upcoming Mortal Kombat. Everyone had the same fatalities in Armageddon and I thought that was a dissapointment considering all of the different fatalities that could have been possible for the 30+ characters in the game.

Here is the newest trailer of Mortal Kombat for those of you who hasn't seen it yet. This game is going to rock!

When is this coming out? Im really intrigued by this game, I hope they will bring a new element (or bring back the oldskool feeling) for this game.
I rather have 2d for this game than 3d from MK on ps2 deadly aliance.
