Alrighty. So my one very good girlfriend who lives down the road from me has started using Herbal Essences shampoo (for curly/wavy hair), and for some reason it makes her hair smell VERY STRANGE (bad), especially around her hairline.

She washes her hair twice a day, so it's not that she's not clean or anything. Does anybody have any idea what's going on, or any experience with this product? She doesn't use conditioner or any other kind of product on her hair, nor does she style it via heat or anything. She just washes her hair, then ties her hair up in a bun.

It's a mystery. If anybody has any ideas, that would be AWESOME.

It might just be the shampoo, not agreeing with her head? I can't use it, my hair hates it, it makes it all dry and feels horrid, so Ive never used it since

Also, it's BLATANT false advertising, I never ONCE had an orgasm like the girls on the advert after using it -_-

her hair is probably not responding to the shampoo too well. maybe something in that particular shampoo is messing up her hair. she should probably not use that shampoo again. maybe that smell is what it should smell like, but if its bad, then no. some shampoos dont respond to certain hair very well. also, it could be because she is not drying her hair right or the towel is dirty(no offense) these things can contribute to that as well.

she has time to wash her hair TWICE a day? O_O

No but seriously. Herbal Essences has never made my hair smell the way it does in the bottle. It's a bag of bullcrap.

I'd tell you what I use (My hairs naturally wavy though seems straight) :gonk: if I could remember the damn name of it.

Getting a new shampoo is the best way though D:

It could be because she ties it up in a bun right after washing it, which then keeps the hair damp and could tend to get a bit smelly?

It could be that the fragrance in the shampoo has become too much for her scalp to bare anymore too. Washing her hair twice a day is more than likely contributing to the smelliness if she doesn't let it dry out properly either.

I've used loads of different shampoos and conditioners. I'll use a particular brand for a few months and then one day it disagrees with me. =/ The only solution is to go hunting for a different product.

I also hate the shampoos that soap up like crazy and only end up drying the hell out of your scalp and making you itchy. <_< Hairdresser shampoo and conditioner like 'KMS' is the best way to go in my opinion. Or even Head and Shoulders.

I think washing her hair twice a day is a little extreme and bad for her hair, it'll end up doing more harm than good. Also, maybe, like Kandy said, the bun is the problem, damp hair all smooshed together? Urgh.

Although, I've used herbal essences before, since I needed too after I bleached my hair and it went horribly horribly wrong, and my hair always smelt nice after it >_>

Dove do a really nice shampoo and conditioner which make the hair smell nice and all soft and silky-smooth :ryan:

Ah, yes, it's pretty bad for your hair to be washed two times a day. It washes away some of the natural oils in your hair, and, in turn, causes your hair to produce even more oils or even dry it out. I think the recommended wash is every other day, but I can't stand to go a day without at least one wash. ><

But I also think there's special shampoos that specialize in deep cleansing the scalp to rid of odors, so... Maybe that could help? (I've never used one myself, so I couldn't say if they actually work, though.)

Hair just goes greasy doesn't it if you wash it too much? :wacky:
Simply put, get her to buy a different shampoo, L'Oreal Paris works nicely, or like Mark stated, Dove. Then if it continues after that I'd get her to go to the doctor to get checked up. :monster:

Good point there! It would wash out the natural oils in your hair if you were to wash it that much.

Another suggestion would be to even go into a chemist and look in the 'Medicated Hair Care' section.

I never really even knew such a thing existed before I started working at the pharmacy. XD

But yes, if all else fails, a doctor's opinion would help and even a pharmacist assistant would be able to help her figure out the correct hair product for her needs.

I find that I wash my hair every second or third day. Whenever it starts to get oily. XD Which is usually around then. XD
