Alright has anyone else tried the auto-levelling trick?

Basically there is a rare monster that appears in the Stilshrine of Miriam which continuously summons undead monsters. By setting up your gambits in a particular way you can make it so you automatically kill the minions without killing Negalmuur thus gaining experience for as long as you want.

The only limit to this trick is that Negalmuur can cast Doom which means that if he casts it on your party leader and the timer reaches zero, the game will pause and it will ask you to change your parties leader. This can be fixed though by setting a gambit to cast a remedy on your leader and by setting up a gambit for your other two members to constantly cast decoy on themselves to limit the amount of times Negalmuur casts doom on your leader. Just make sure you buy a ton of remedies.

Since I like the idea of getting rewarded for doing nothing, I decided to give it a shot and I left my PS3 on for 2 days (I had to restock on items when I woke up after the first night.)

Here's the Gambit setup I used courtesy of this guide: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/459841/45867

Have your party leader with this setup:

Self: MP < 10% -> Charge
Self: -> Haste
Ally: Any -> Raise
Ally: HP < 60% -> Cura
Ally: Party Leader -> Remedy
Ally: Any -> Esuna
Foe: HP < 3000 -> Attack

Have your Allies with exactly the same setup except add this gambit:

Self -> Decoy

I have indeed. I left it running for around 40 hours in total, once.

However...these 40 hours were not continuous. As anyone who's attempted this trick will have discovered, the loop ceases when your party leader is killed and your other party members couldn't revive them quickly enough to beat the "please select a new leader" notice. It's irritating.

I've since abandoned using this trick due to the low yields of experience. I suppose it's okay, if you have lots of spare time to dedicate. Personally, I now go for the re-spawning bats on the way to Zodiark - they're weak to Holy damage and 20 or so of them appear at the same time, each yielding somewhere between 1000 and 2000 experience without an embroidered tippet. Sleepga + Curaja = genius. I went from level 60-85 in an hour. xD

I tried it, but I had Reddas at my party and he killed him straight away!
I must say that Reddas is very annoying, always running after the enemies far away from where I stood.

Oh yeah, if it was that ghost thing... I found it but only when I was actually there as part of the story. Therefore, it was hard to beat. Everyone's MP went to 0.

But then I was told about those zodiark bats thing. Awesome levelling up!

Yeah for that reason it's not a good idea to try it when you have a guest in your party.

I think the idea is to go back later and do it, that way your strong enough to be able to survive. The MP going to 0 thing is fixed with the "Self: MP < 10% -> Charge" gambit.

Nah Sashman it's only worth it at lower levels :-\ . Once you hit 50-60, you'll get the most exp from the Abysteels in Henne Mines. They give ~3000 exp without the embroidered tippet and 6000 with it. I hit 99 with all 6 chars in about 7-8 hours in all. Including all the running to save once I hit 99 on my first 3.

^^As for the Reddas problem, just kill him lol. Turn off your Phoenix Down/Arise gambit and manually revive anyone who dies.

True it did take a good while to gain levels, but I was well into the 80's before I stopped.

Yeah that solves the problem, but the point is that it is an auto-levelling technique so you don't have to do a single thing manually. That way you can watch TV, go to sleep, spend a day in town and still be levelling.

It was in the way, had to fight or flee but where's the fun in that? I beat it anyway. Then healed myself at a crystal. Also, I didn't have any of the self MP gambits so, I couldn't use them.

I tried using the trick, and with it I gained a few levels. However it took a lot of time (I just left my PS2 on for days) after I hit 65 to gain levels.

I just watched TV and went about my normal routine, checking in every hour or two (or when I woke up/came home from ebing out) and got the cycle going again. I got into the high 70s before I stopped if I remember correctly.
