I just realized how similar this final boss is to the final boss of FFIV, Zeromus.
-N.E. uses Dispel, Z. uses Black Hole. Both have the same effect.
-When N.E. starts shaking, it means he's going to use Almagest, an attack that causes high damage to all party members and HP leaking. When Z. starts shaking , it means he's going to use Big Bang, an attack that causes high damage to all party members and HP leaking.
-When only 1 part of N.E. remains (a.k.a. he's low on HP), he starts using Meteor - however, the spell has a good chance to only hit 1 or 2 members instead of the whole party. Z. does the same.
-Both use Holy and Flare.
-Both backgrounds look similar.
-Both have the same hideous look.
:holyshit:
Enough said >_>

Isn't part of the appeal of FF that your going to get a very similar product to the last game, with minor, sometimes major, changes in graphics and battle system? Really, the series seems to be founded on consistently using a formula, mind you a formula that works, to create games which appeal to a fan base and the general audience. It doesn't surprise me that a few bosses end up being similar (although almost exactly the same is a little creepy...)

Every FF borrows from the ones before it, mostly the immediate one. Hell, if you ever compare Exdeath & Kefka, the biggest difference is that one is a tree & the other is a clown.

If they need more ideas for bosses they should ask the Hard Core Veteran Gamers.
Everyone says my bosses are WAY to smart, strong or to difficult to defeat.

Zeromus shares those similarities with ExDeath. ExDeath and kefka both want to destroy everything (albeit in different ways sucking into a void/destruction respectively)
I do believe kefka and Sephiroth's final battle share many similarities as well.

I wonder where the line between pattern and lack of creativity is...
