When you listen to songs, what instrument do you notice right off the bat? Is it the Bass guitar? Or is it the rocking solos and emotions behind the lead guitar? Or is it the more secluded, but still there, drums?

For me, it's the drums. As of late, I've been really paying more attention to the drums rather than any other instrument. Something about the snare drums, the bass drums, high toms — every kind of drum that comes with a complete drum set just catches my eye...well ear in this case. :wacky: That's the one thing I look forward to when listening to songs, and it's the one thing I look for in a band. If their drummer is good, and they can pull me in, then I'm sold.

Then again. If bands can balance everything into a well-meshed, solid sound, then that's even better.

I usually hear woodwind. (so the flute,Clairinet ECT) and in music without or very little woodwind, Trombone and Drums. Trumpet too. However if theres a Viola/Viola I hear that first.

The synthesizer :reptar: I love all the weird sounds it can make, so if there's a synthesizer I don't even pay attention to the rest of the song.

I play guitar in a band so I usually notice that first, but then as songs flesh out I usually pick up on everything else. I try to listen out for subtle things such as bass harmonies and stuff. Anything for some inspiration y'know :)
