This is an open challenge to anyone and everyone who has a character and wishes to accept. It would be preferable if my opponent had a good heart, but anyone will do. Credit goes to Jenova on

for giving me the idea for this arena.

I will be using my Jake character (http://www.finalfantasyforums.net/galbadia-garden/hera-ledros-characters-1783.html)

Whigrad Port City

It was well known that the primary reason for the Holy Northern Empire's initial southward expansion was due to a lack of trade opportunities. The harsh climate left most of the coastline frozen for the majority of the year, and crossing over land during the winter months was dangerous. This put the empire at the economic mercy of smaller countries that had access to year-round ports.

This all changed a little over two hundred years ago, when the second Emperor Mikhail invaded the southern nations, carving a path along the northwestern coast in a bloody expansion of territory that lasted almost thirty years. The war caused great strife in those times, but the union of so many nations eventually brought economic prosperity as the empire became the leading trade power in the northwest. The Mikhailian Sea, renamed after the man who brought it under one flag, remains under the empire's control to this day.

However, smaller cities to the north still rely on the seasonal ports. During the summer thaw, when the ice breaks up and the ships can pull free of the harbor, there is a rush of ocean traffic to get enough supplies to last the year. These port cities see a lot of cash flow during these times, but in the off-season, they are all but abandoned. Whigrad Port City was one such place. Smoke rose from the industrial areas and individual homes, but other than these small signs of life, there was little to distinguish Rydia from a ghost town.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Jake had come here before, but only after his uncle, Ashia, had called him here.

Ashia, being Hera Ledro's brother, was an Allsie, and one of the few remaining survivors. Ashia battled a man Solus here, and won, only to realize he was being manipulated by his eldest brother, Sukani. He won the ensuing battle with his opponent, Solus, but had lost a friend in the process. through the battle, though short as it was, Ashia fought with increasing vigor and enjoyment, thrilled that there was one that could match him. In the end, though, he had won as his final transformation made him extremely strong. Too strong in fact. He misjudged his strength and blasted a hole straight through his opponent, ultimately killing him.

As a gesture of honour to his opponent, Ashia buried him there. Even though he had known him for only a few minutes, he could tell that Solus was unique.

Jake approached the icy spire that held Solus' body, and looked at his face through the clear ice. Ashia managed to heal the actual wound, but the life had already been extinguished from Solus' body.

The body was held upright in a posture of pride, his sword held in soldier's position in front of his body, the point pointing towards the ground. his hair was draped to the sides, exposing his flawless face in the ice.

Jake layed the flowers down on the ground by the tomb, which read:

HERE LIES SOLUS, WHO FOUGHT ASHIA LEDRO IN TRUE HONOUR AND DIED IN THE ENSUING CHAOS. MAY HE RISE TO THE GATES OF HEAVEN, WHERE HE MAY STAND PROUD AND TALL.

Under the inscription was a worn out date of brith to date of death. Jake may not have knownSolus personally, but anyone who was a victim of Sukani's plots was worthy of flowers from gods.

All of a sudden, the ground shifted behind Jake, and he heard someone approaching. He whirled around, drawing his sword and calling: "Who's there!?"

Please, have a non-god-modding character guys. No super powerful people who can blow up the planet and stuff like that. And he should be posted on these forums.

Now just where in the hell did he wander off into now? Wasn't he just busy getting scorched by the burning desert sands not but a few minutes back!?

Dammit! There was no use standing around right now, so he had to find a way out... or at least some place warm. Geez! He was going to freeze to death out here. And to make things worse, it felt like he was standing in the middle of a fragile ice-

crack

-field.

Crap.

"Who's there!?"

cried a voice out through the winter weariness. Nova swore that he'd heard steel being drawn. Hell, it must've been his imagination. Nobody would dream of fighting out here in this cold. The wind gusts were starting to get hard and frequent too. The windsw grew hard and harder still as they masked the black shilouette of a figure that appeared the snow-filled gusts.

"EXCUSE ME!" He yelled at the top of his lnugs.

"EXCUSE ME!" PLEASE, A LITTLE ASSISTANCE PLEASE?" The wind was making it difficult to hear. He'd soon have to scream even louder just to hear himself.

OOC: Tx, I;ll get on the post now. That was interesting though Serge...a helpless guy stuck in the ice? Amusing.

IC: Jake saw the man stuck in the icelands. His eyes, as his blood was 10% Dragon, had excellent vision, and he saw him struggling and yelling. He didn't look any older than 18, maybe 20. He's still older than me, Jake thought. Well, I guess that I should help him out.

Jake flew to the person, using his energy to repel him and keeping his tail wrapped around him, so that it didn't interfere with his flight.

He landed beside the man, holding out his hand to assist. "Need some help?" Jake asked through the howling wind. He held out his tail as well, just in case he couldn't grip his hands. "If you're going to take my tail, don't touch the blade. It's unbelievably sharp and can cut your hand off in an instant."

"Thanks! Umm, ya' mind telling me where the hell I am?"

A man who looked... well, more than human, had helped save him from a bad date with hypothermia.

"If you're going to take my tail, don't touch the blade. It's unbelievably sharp and can cut your hand off in an instant."

Tail?

He peered up at the man through the blinding winter frost quizzically. Then something else didn't add up. But he was going t o ask that question next instead, "it's alright, i've had my share of bad cuts." came out of his mouth. But the next question was "So, uhh, what's with the tail?"

It wasn't exactly that he was uncomfortable with it, especially because he was half freezing to death, but he did find it... strange.

Even stranger was the fact that he was in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.

Jake laughed. "Yeah, I usually keep it hidden from people," Jake said as he pulled the person out. "But, I don't usually have to hide it. People accept the fact that I'm not totally human and get on with their lives. Most of the time anyways."

"You're in Whigrad Port City," he said as the wind swept snow past his black hair, showering it with white. "It's a great place to be in the summer, but nowadays," Jake said, looking up into the sky. "Well, let's just say global warming is really taking it's toll."

Jake took his sword out of the sheath, looking at it in wonder. "After all this time, the Soul Shredder hasn't cracked a bit," he muttered. "You'd think that it would break bacause of the cold, but it's still as perfect as the day Hera gave it to me." Jake shook himself out of his reverie, and looked back at the person in the tundra.

"Anyways, I have a tail because the Allsie gene was passed down to me by my grandfather, Hera Ledro," he said. "I've had it since birth, and I love it. It's helped me in many a battle."

"You look strong," Jake said. "You wanna train?" Jake brought his sword in to a ready position, straight in front of him like the zweihander it was. For some reason though, the Soul Shredder, monstrous blade though it was, was a very light sword, and was easy to heft. "It would warm you up, and you look really cold. Activity always helps in a situation like this. Whadday say?" Jake waited at the ready for the human's decision.

OOC: yeah, shouldn't we make this into the battle it should be :D

"Anyways, I have a tail because the Allsie gene was passed down to me by my grandfather, Hera Ledro," he said. "I've had it since birth, and I love it. It's helped me in many a battle."

"Allsie huh?"

The name kind of rang of bell...

Anyways, Nova made the extra effort to keep his tail in mind. Along with anyother visible advantages and disadvantages.

"You wanna train?"

Damn! Right out of the blue. Whoever this man, was seemed fasinated with his blade. And the way that he held it meant that he had some skill with it too, which meant that he was an experienced warrior. So, if he was an experienced warrior, then he firstly could pack a punch, secondly could take a hit ,and thirdly must've had a story to go with his blade.

"It would warm you up, and you look really cold. Activity always helps in a situation like this. Whadday say?"

Made sense to him. Plus, maybe a sword fight might help him uncover the secret behind his blade.

"Sure, just let me get myself ready."

With that, he stood up and shook the cold and frost off of him as best as he could and unsheathed his blade. Ten paces back was good, as he stepped into a back stance. A tae kwon do favorite, but then again, Estillo de reino was a concentrated amalgation of many different arts and styles.

Nova's blade was held in his right hand, diagonally over the front of his right knee, awaiting the next move.

OOC: My guy aint a man  he's thirteen years old :D he's a kid! and he's gonna kick ur ass!

IC: "Sweet," Jake said, grinning like a child. "It's been a while since my last fight with anyone. Whaddaya say-" Jake's body burst into flame as he transformed into his Dragon form.

He now stood over 6 feet tall, his red scales glittering in the sunlight. His green spines that ran along his back were sharp as a newly made nail, and his golden underbelly was hard as rock. His wings held a translucent, red membrane that stretched accross all 6 feet of each wing. He continued to hold his sword in the same fashion, but his tail, now having lost it's blade, swung around slowly, as if it were on a cat stalking a mouse.

Jake continued, his voice completely unchanged, "-we get this started." Jake backflipped around, the spines along his tail cutting through the air as he shot backwards. He landed and pushed off the ground, using his legs to propel himself forwards, and extended his wings straight, giving him better aerodynamics. "If I injure you," he called. "I can heal you after the battle, but I can't heal myself. sucks, don't it?"

Jake swung his sword as he came to a landing right beside his opponent, the blade whistling through the air with his hand. Jake used this momentum to continue his swing, turning around in a 360 degree turn, and waving his hand towards his opponent, claws outstretched, ready to tear the skin off his adversary's bones.

((Careful now, over-confidence comes with a huge disadvantage... little boy!))

The kid had transformed into a six foot dragonoid beast with green spine, and a large translucent membrane to go with his wings.

"Huh..."

Was all that managed to escape Nova's mouth.

Then, something that big (which in Nova's mind seemed to defy the very laws of physics) disappeared!

Crunch!

Crap! He was behind him.

Ehh, no worries though! Because the legends about the style are true. It is very unwise to sneak up on a user of Estillo de Reino.

Nova immediately heard the claws and the blade of his opponent raking through the air.

With that, Nova immediately dropped to the ground and kicked back with his right leg, with his left hand grabbing the freezing ground. His right hand however...

OOC: I am soooooo sorry that this took so long. Each and every time I made a post on this MY COMPUTER SHUIT DOWN or I had to go somewhere, or something else retarded.

IC: Jake saw the kick coming, and jumped over his opponent, landing 20 feet behind him. "You have to be faster than that to catch me," he said. Jake knew full well that, even though his strongest area was strength, his speed was not compromised.

As Jake landed, he whirled around and sent a fireball searing straight towards his foe. He used his right hand holding the sword to slam it on the ground, causing a tremor that resounded through the whole area.

He laughed. "I hope you can provide me with a challenge. I'd hate to be disappointed, especially when you seem pretty strong."

Jake whirled about, causing a massive wave of energy to streak towards his foe as he swung his sword horizontally. Upon instinct, he drew a huge wall around Solus' grave, protecting it from anything that would happen during this battle.

Through hours or extreme practice, he sharpened himself. Not through being born lucky enough to have been born into a bloodline with desirable traits, like having wings for an example. And he knew that this person would never have to work as hard as he to gain strength.

But Nova didn't mind

Because that meaned that he earned every victory!

But these people were all the same. They were all about flashy (literally) moves, and not much substance.

Oh well, the fact that a wave of energy was flying towards him meant that he he needed to move the hell out of the way. With that, Nova ran forward, towards the fireball and leapt into the air. That way, he avoided the tremors on the ground and the wave of energy being hurled at him.

With Nova's combat reflexes being sharper than a blade, whipped his blade out, arcing it above his head. He swung roughly to the right, turning with his hips as much as they would cooperate, as he smacked the incoming fireball with the flat of his blade, which sucessfully deflected it back at the caster.

Now that he was still spinning in midair, he used the rest of his remianing momentum to swing diagonally at his opponent a few times in the air. He planned to unleash a possible flurry of kicks as soon as he landed... and depending on how he could land.

OOC: Sorry again. I've been swamped with work and then the site shut down for awhile.

A little advice: it's good to leave your posts open-ended to a degree, but you should try to make it so that your moves are concise and leave enough opening for a slim chance of escape. Saying "depending on how you land", for example, is leaving it way too open-ended. With that happening, you leave yourself totally open to several attack options.

IC: Jake whirled about in midair, slicing through the returning fireball with ease as it shot towards him. The Soul Shredder rang with delight as it slashed through the ball of fire, spraying the air with what seemed to be liquid flame.

Jake fell towards the ground, and landed on his lags and one hand, his sword hung loosely at the ready. His opponent's attacks had missed, and left him wide open.

Jake took advantage of the enemy's momentary point of weakness, and shot upwards, his blade bearing upon his opponent from below.

((Trust me, I know what I'm doing))

One of the many key concepts of the Estillo de Reino style involves one turning their mistake, actions, and disadvantages into advantages.

Nova meditated momentarily upon this as he careened through the air. His previous movement had left him exposed, but not defenseless. Nova's hand's twitched involuntarily as they gripped his blade.

The mistake that he made would yet be turned to his advantage.

...but how?

tseeeew

Hairs on the back of his neck pricked up, and his ears caught the sound of a cold blade singing through the air. There came the rectification of his error.

Nova's body was about ten feet in the air and falling by now, but he had all the time and space he needed.

With his right hand gripping the blade's handle tighly, Nova's left hand shot up, grabbing the blade by the flat.

Now at the moment, he didn't feel that he had enough momentum to angle his body to allow himself to parry with the blade, but he did have enough to turn halfway and block with flat; and he did so with great alacrity.

His opponent's swing was so strong, that the force of the blow propelled Nova about a good twenty feet away.

"Think, think, THINK!"

Said Nova as he yelled at himself mentally.

Then, the lightbulb went off in his head. While flying through the air, he dug through his belongings and found a thin piece of strange looking thread. Nova wrapped the string around his waist as fast as he could, making sure to tie the other length of cord around the handle of the blade.

But, Nova had never seen his hands move so fast. They were like brown greased lightning, slathered in oil!

"oof!"

Nova landed on the ground with a thump, but wasted no time what so ever. Quickly thinking, he stuck his blade into the ground, kicking off of it, and slingshotting himself directly towards his opponent.

Right off the bat, he knew that it'd be a dumb idea to charge his opponent, but his mind had another idea in mind.

...And it's funny because Estillo de Reino also teaches one to attack their opponents with movements that they'd never expect...

Jake's attack, though it connected, was blocked. It achieved one thing though, it did knock his opponent flying. As expected, though, the warrior righted himself not two seconds after he landed, in which time, Jake had landed.

Well, he thought, watching his opponent fly towards him. This could be fun after all.

Jake swung his sword down, slamming the blade on the ground, and sending a shockwave billowing about the field. In an instant, he sent a block of ice flying in the air. Jake jumped up and kicked it towards his opponent with unerring aim. He landed agin, though to the left of his original position, and crouched, ready for his next move.

Jake opened his maw and released a jet of fire, sending steam straight into the air. The field covered with water vapour, he was able to sit and wait, fearless of an oncoming attack.

You know, it's kind of amazing what the human body can do, even without the use or blessing of magic... or wings.

Nova calmed his breathing, letting his world go instantaneously as he flew on fast feet. He also knew that he had to react and turn his disadvantage into his upper hand. That in mind, he began to get a feel for his chi.

You see, flowed through his body like a raging river. And all because of years of practice, training, and meditation.

... And because of this, he was ready for nything that his opponent could throw at him.

He focused his chi for a moment as he ran it through his arm and up to the very tip of his blade. In short, he was using his chi to harness to power of the wind and compacting the force of a hurrican into the air from a single blade stroke.

Estillo de reino also taught one to sharpen all aspects of the individual (usually to extremes) into a deadly weapon

The force was enough to negate the steam and the fireblast respectively, but what he really wanted was to blow his opponent back with the wind blast.

He realized that his opponent didn't want him to get close, so he resolved to get closer to him whether he liked it or not.

Nova's legs took filght, careful not to overjump his opponent, but also to avoid the newly wet ground in front of him too.

...And there still was a little chi left in his blade...

Jake noticed the rather erratic fighting style of his opponent. He came to physical conclusions (based on his movements) that were totally in the wrong. As Nova closed in, Jake lifted his blade, frowning, and easily blocked the attack.

"I expected more," he said. "Can't you fight stronger? I ain't tryin' to insult you or anything, but seriously, that's weak." Jake whirled away from the attack, and allowed it to follow through.

"Now I'm bored," he grimaced. Jake sighed, transforming back into his thirteen-year-old self in a burst of flame. "Let's end this..." he said. Jake hefted his blade up onto his shoulders before slamming it down on the ground, sending a wall of long ice shards flying in the air towards his opponent, each not 5 centimetres apart from each other.

With his left hand, he slot a fireball straight through the centre of the onslaught, melting the ones in the centre and shooting forward, getting gradually hotter as it soared through the atmosphere.

"Can't you fight stronger? I ain't tryin' to insult you or anything, but seriously, that's weak."

Asked his opponent.

Nova was quite disappointed in his opponent, because he had clearly failed to gauge his opponent. It was sad really, because one of the first rules of combat is to never underestimate your opponent under any circumstances whatsoever.

Nova throughout the whole of the time out their thought of the fight as a rigorous training exercise to warm the blood up, so he was doubly surprised to hear, that his opponent percieved him as weak. For the most part, he'd been using only 9 percent of his power tops. In this way, he'd be saving the both of them (and the town nearby) from himself.

"Oh, that's a shame; I guess that use a little more power. How about, say I ramp it up to about fourteen percent?"

But he didn't have much time for talk...

"Now I'm bored,"

...and judging by his opponent's response, it seemed as if he hadn't heard a word he said, so he stepped back about twenty feet at the earliest opportunity.

"Let's end this..."

"Guess he'll have to learn the hard way..." Thought the warrior to himself

At this point, it was actually kind of amusing. What with the fact tht his opponent believed that victory was so assured. It was just sad that he'd never grasped the fundamentals of combat. On of which being that victory is never assured in combat, especially when you're against an opponent that you barely know anything about.

"Tch..."

The dragonoid kid launched his next assualt: a wall of icicle daggers, and what he believed appeared to be an ever growing fireball.

But Nova calmly stood his ground and yanked every single flying ice projectile out of the air that was directly aimed towards him. He allowed the remaining shards of ice to breeze past him effortlessly. The ice shards that he caught were thrown back at his opponent at a velocity that either equaled or matched the original speed in which they were sent.

The fireball was much easier to deal with (regardless of the utter lack of pause between attacks) because of sheer size. He simply jerked himself back a half step and headbutted the damned thing back at it's sender.

Another rule of combat is to be aware of your actions. With the right opponent, your strongest attack can be used against you.

...And Nova's opponent seemed to be ignoring this rule all together.

Not wanting to miss an opportunity, he decided to get a bit closer to his opponent, and covered his charge, decreasing visibility by hiding behind the flaming ball of death coming his way.

But he wished that he could've stayed close to the fireball because right now, it was warmest thing out here.

Jake grinned. I knew that would get him going. He transformed into a Kame Kariyu-shin, his hair flaring gold at the change. "That's what I'm TALKING ABOUT!" Jake roared, his power had increased 4 times its previous limits, and he was ready for anything now.

He swung his sword in a horizontal slash, a wave of fire engulfing the icicles aimed at him. The wave continued on towards his opponent, and rammed the fireball head on, a huge explosion resulting. Jake's hair whipped around from the explosion as he laughed. When the fire dissipated, Jake emerged unharmed, a glowing golden aura surrounding him, still laughing with vigor. "Well," he said. "I guess it's time to turn this up a notch, eh?"

There was still smoke around the explosion site, and Jake, though unable to see his opponent, could sense him with ease.

Upon doing so, he raised his hand and blasted a great golden beam of energy straight towards the centre of the explosion. Never underestimate you're opponent. At the last second, before it collided with the wall of smoke, Jake increased the energy output, and created a wave with a diameter of 50 feet lancing forward. The attack creating tendrils of energy wrapping around Jake, a small protective barrier between himself and any impending melee attacks.

(((EDITED)))

"Hmm, interesting barrier spell you've got there. I hope that you don't mind if I put an end to that shield of yours..."

One moment he was on the ground flapping his yap, yet within the very next second, he soaring through the air, blade drawn. You see, what he wanted to accomplish was not to break through the barrier, but rather to test it's strength.

Nova decided that the best strike to use would probably be an over head smash. So, as he descended upon the barrier, he arched his back in a crescent motion, as he brought his blade down, singing through the air in an overhead strike that shattered both the ground and the ice beneath his opponent in an explosion of chipped ice and cold dirt.

Nova was repelled backward to his original distance, and when he landed, he was still sliding backwards.

There was something that Nova noticed though in the barrier that his opponent may have possibly overlooked, and he was going to take the chance. So far, his opponenet at the very least took him and his fighting style as a tad unpredictable. This time, he was going to show his opponent what crazy looked like.

After running off a distance, Nova started walking, around, listening for that sound that meant that he was in the middle of the weakest part of the ice flow.

...And he punched a small hole into the ground.

...And dove into the icy waters below, swimming faster than a starved dolphin after a little food. His half-opened eyes stung greatly as the ice cold water hit them. Regardless, he need them open, so that he could see where he was going.

Of course, this wasn't too difficult underwater seeing as how he only needed to follow the glow. His skin was starting to burn from the cold water, and if he stayed under for too long without taking a breath or warming up, then he'd probably die.

Nova didn't worry too much about the consequences, as his opponent would never expect him to do something so crazy.

When he reached his destination, well, ice cold hands shot up from the ground where his opponent was, grabbing him firmly by the ankles, and pulling him under. Nova was going to learn something about his opponent in this, and he was going to find out just how well those wings of his functioned.
