This concerns both X and X-2 so I just put it here....

"That statue lost its power as a fayth long ago. It is Lord Zaon, the first fayth of the Final Summoning. What you see before you is all thatremains of him. Lord Zaon is...his soul is gone."

Now two years later, we see Zaon's spirit inhabiting the Via Infinito where it transforms into Paragon, "the strongest fiend of all time."

But an aeon is...

"A fayth. They join with a summoner, and together receive the aeon. They
are human souls, imprisoned in stone"

We saw Jecht could transform still into Braska's Final Aeon even though Braska is long dead. This might b ea special circumstance as he was possessed by Yu Yevon.

So my question is, as in the title, is what Zaon transforms into the actual Final Aeon he became for Yunalesca? Or is it just what his spirit came on its own out of resentment for the living?

Interesting the way you put it, Paragon might be a Final Aeon or he can be just another fiend beholding unmatched power. But there are many pieces of the puzzle unexplained...such as; Nemesis = Paragon? Nemesis was created as a mix of all creatures you capture.

I don't think anything out of the storyline has a exact explanation by the game itself its up for the player(s) to figure out the connections, in this case Via Infinito. But something you must consider is that everyone there
yes Seymour as well
becomes a powerful fiend and all of them were summoners in the past (correct me if i'm wrong).

As for my opinion I can't really say as there is no concrete proof he IS a Final Aeon, same with all of the others enemies you face before...be them the used Fayths or not.

So yeah, I think he is just the strongest fiend of all.

Actually I just thought of something new.

All the Fayth left their statues at the end of X thus leaving them just regular spirits. They returned in X-2 as aeosn wtthout use of a summoner.
Thus they are just spirits who turned into aeons.

This lends a bit more weight to the possibility Zaon could turn into his Final Aeon form.

All the Aeons were sent by Yuna at the end of X...

All Aeons except Sin (for some unexplainable reason) showed up on X-2 and all came from the Farplane; under the Fayth's chamber.

I see what you mean but still that doesn't proves the point of your main question about Paragon being or not a Aeon, he isn't mentioned so in the game neither mentioned elsewhere. If that were to happen all the other Fayths who died and whose spirits appeared on Via Infinito are considered Final Aeons.

The answer might be a enigma, but if you apply the theory as the fiends shown there are owns fiend created from envy/hatred for the living as "Mr.T" mentioned. I think it makes more sense.

The aeons or summenings, are the fayth of people.
When sin die, the aeons disappear!

And, at the end of X aron disappear along whit them, he was a aeon to!

I would like to point out that the aeons had the option of disappearing. They were tired of sleeping, thus they left their stones, and decided to wonder the world freely and of their choice. With this being said I believe that the aeons that sin had taken control of were only freed from the torture of being forced to dream like they were. So Paragon very well could be the first final aeon.

Its been a while but...

According to FF Wikia (How come no one consulted it first); Yes, Paragon supposely is the Final Aeon
FF Wikia said:
Paragon is the aeon born from Lord Zaon's fayth, summoned by Lady Yunalesca. He was the first Final Summoning used to destroy the first Sin derived from Yu Yevon.

Still, how does the so called 'Final Aeon' gets knocked off so easilly by Trema.

Paragon is not Zaon's aeon form, not by a long shot. It looks nothing like his fayth statue in Zanarkand at all, and all aeons look like their fayth statue. Unless Zaon is the sole exception, but I highly doubt it.

That's because sin isn't an aeon. The final aeon as used as the core of sin, not sin itself. All sin is is an armour made up of extremely dense pyreflies, held together with really strong gravity magic.

I think of it as this: Aeons are made up of pyreflies, just like people, just like fiends, just like the Fayth, just like the dreams of the Fayth. So, when Yuna sent the aeons at the end of X, they probably went to the Farplane, just like every other creation of pyreflies does. I believe this could be why Paragon could show up even though the Fayth had all "left" (for lack of a better word) at the end of X.

Ruka, I may be wrong, but I feel like it was explained somewhere in X that Zaon became Yunalesca's Final Summoning. So, he was an aeon after all. He would have been defeated in aeon form by whoever beat since after Yunalesca, and therefore would have gone to the Farplane if we're following my theory above. Or, perhaps he was simply an unsent aeon, dwelling in the Via Infinito for one thousand and two years. *shrug*
