Currently v0.6 BETA is available to the public. You can download it HERE.

Overview:
Pokemon Online (POL) is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) that involves quests, player personalisation, persistent NPCs, sparring and general exploration. Players will have the ability to train and catch pokemon while battling other trainers online in real-time. The POL game is closely based on the original Pokemon Gameboy games, with most of the traditional elements remaining intact. The POL enviroment is completely 2D and replicates the graphics used in the original games. The POL MMORPG has the ability to support hundreds and even thousands of simultaneously connected players. This means that you will interact in a vast virtual world, with many kingdoms and quests, with players from all over the world.

The POL game has no end, it just keeps evolving. POL has many quests, events, tools for building new content and personalising your character, games within the game, chat, forums and much more. POL has been a prominent part of the Pokémon fandom since 1999. Beyond providing the fundamentals of any MMORPG - a dedicated team, a fantastic forum community, and professionalism, Pokemon Online has made for itself a mission. Pokemon Online seeks to involve the community wherever possible.

I'll play it when its actually running! All you do so far is wonder around a closed area attempting to battle people you cant battle because its not even finished!!!

Lame

Actually looks interesting, but considering how huge pokemon is/has been they should really make an effort to make this a great game. Im not conviced by the fact that they seem to use the same format as the game boy games. The more i think about it, a pokemon MMORPG with all its contents could even reach out and take place next to WOW and Guildwars. I mean, we have the basic grindin for lvls, we have the catching of pokemons, we have the battles between players. The possibilities are unlimited.

So I noticed a couple of days ago you can actually fight people now...

Suffice to say, it's poor. Being able to choose any Pokémon from the original series is a bummer, and you can't actually level up. Fighting people at level 20 is all well and good, but there's not even any visualizations to go with the fighting... it's much like 'Pokémon Crater' to be honest.

I do hope this progresses however. But with the coming of Diamond and Pearl for the DS, I'm guessing this'll be a last resort for people who don't yet have the DS to actually play the games.

Wow, that is one hell of a discovery. It's too bad the game isn't so good yet. Personally, I think they would have a bigger success with a Yu-Gi-Oh MMORPG.

Guys how old are you all?? Pokemon was good when i was 7 but that was a long time ago....
To each his or her own. :P

I'm lookin' around abit, introduced myself as a newbie... I tried to get onto the game, but the servers are 'unresponsive'. *Sigh* I guess I'll just have to keep tryin'. But it sounds like a really great idea.

i tried downloading this earlier but it wouldnt connect me o_0 it said all the servers are down and stuff  so could someone give me a brief explanation of what happens at the start? do we get to pick any pokemon or one of the starter ones?

Hmm, sounds interesting. Actually, it looks interesting! But I wouldn't play it...erm, it's just not for me. I'll have my siblings take a look at it though. I'm sure they'll love it.

Gwah, as soon as a good Poke'mon thing comes out online (at least it sounds/looks good), I just can't get it started. Stupid servers are all down. *Cry*

Pokemon is a solid RPG. I'm 19, and I still love it.

And I was interested in this until I read Saix's post. That sorta killed any desire I had to play...

No leveling up? I'll pass.

Pokemon is one of those things I wish I hated more than I do. I do dislike most of the characters, the pansie feel of the games/show, and how they've whored it out in general. Even so, I like the concept of capturing and training little beasts and honning them into fighting machines. I can't help it. I've played that GameBoy games and i liked them. >.> It's just not a bad concept... it's not my fault that everything else about it is so incredibly faggarrific.

I highly doubt it's an indefinite thing. Besides, it looks like a very basic beta version, so I think it's safe to assume they're still trying to get things going.

However, the system works similar to the aforementioned site: PokémonCrater. If anyone's interested, here's the url.

www.pokemoncrater.com

They update their game pretty reasonably, so there's generally a bunch of new stuff you can do there. You can level up on this one too. ;D

SWWWEEEEEEEEEEET! I can finally PWN you all with my MAD SKILLZ!
