Post your equips you used to beat Yiazmat here so that people who need an idea as to which equipment they'll need have one.
My equips:

Vaan:
Durandal
Demon Shield
Circlet
Grand Armor
Indigo Pendant (for Decoy/Reverse)

Ashe:
Fomalhaut
Dark Shot
Circlet
Grand Armor
Bubble Belt

Penelo:
Orochi
(none)
Celebrant's Miter
Mirage Vest
Cat-Ear Hood (for better speed)

Vaan:
Ultima Blade.
Black Mask.
Mirror Mail.
Opal Ring.

Balthier:
Formalhaut.
Dark Shot.
Black Mask.
Mirror Mail.
Opal Ring.

Basch:
Masamune.
Black Mask.
Genji Gloves.
Bubble Belt.

Basically i gave Vaan and Balthier mirror mail which reflects yiazmat's spells back at him and opal ring so i can still use magic or heal myself. I used Vaan as my main tank character, Balthier to attack from a distance and Basch with his masamune and genji gloves to get multiple hits on yiazmat. Ended up winning in 1 hour 4 minutes.

Everyone here seems to be forgetting that you need windbreakers. WINDBREAKER WINDBREAKER WINDBREAKER!!! What are you going to do when yiazmat uses growing threat followed by cyclone? Without windbreaker you'll most likely take 4000-5000 points of damage after the growing threat and then you'll have the status effect sap on you. Whenever i see him getting ready to use cyclone i go into my inventory and switch all my active characters to windbreakers. Sure my defense goes down but i'd rather have that then taking that whooping damage. Then after the attack grand armour for everyone

as for weapons i use masamune with genji gloves on vaan and basch has the tournesol. I keep Ashe in the back with the faulmaut and she mostly spell casts and syphons mp from vaan who i keep berserked and decoyed and reversed to keep his hp up. Basch is there to make sure that the status's stay on vaan and also to attack when he can. I keep manual control of Ashe and keep her distant from the fight.

I used Windbreakers! (How rude...) Ask first and if we didn't use them then politely remind us.
Oh, and Demondestiny, you couldn't have used Excalibur as it is imbuned with the Holy element and Yiazmat absorbs it. You also have 2 accessories listed under Basch. Pay attention to stats as well, as some characters have small bonuses on each stat.
Vaan: Vitality Balthier: Speed Fran: All Around Basch: Strength Ashe & Penelo: Magic Power
Looking at this, it makes sense that Ashe or Penelo are equipped with the Masamune because katanas use magic power as a base as well as strength. But your setup was good.

Woops, sorry about that. I used the Ultima Blade with vaan and not exclaibur.

And lol, i didn't even consider using windbreakers till after the battle.

Oops. We all make mistakes.
However, I pretty much abandoned the Fomalhaut when Yazzy upgraded his defense. I replaced that with Genji Gloves, Masamune, and my best Magic Armor.
Maybe I should make a topic like this for Hell Wyrm...

It all boils down to your gambits. My guys were set up so tough that any status effect thrown at me gets quickly nullified, I had the healing set to like two thirds of health left before everyone heals everyone. I had Esunaga set for everyone, curaga set for everyone, cast haste on everyone all the time.

Basically, my gambits were so righteous, I could just leave the game on, go to the store, go to my friends house, come back, use some elixers for my MP Ive expended.

Yaizmat was a bitch though. Probably the most irritating boss to final fantasy date. Only way I could deal with him was by not being around while my guys were battlin with him.

Note for the dummies, dont forget to disspell him. He has a lot of buffs on, umong bravery and faith.
