Kinda surprised this one ain't around if it is my bad just delete this move or do what ya gotta do. But seriously is racism really gone are we really united just because a black man was elected to the presidency? Sure we've come a long way since the 1920s and Dr. King's days. But does this really change anything? What are your thoughts on racism? Is it gone? Is it worse than ever? Me personally I do not think it will ever be gone no matter what. Because there is always gonna be some ignorant ass that hates every race but their own. I quite frankly think it is stupid why hate someone cause of their skin color. That's like hating someone cause they have two eyes.(and I'm sure some dumbass out there is like that too) Cause if I hate someone it's prolly cause they A. pissed me off. B. is a jackass. Or C. is a jackass, pissed me off, and is a dumbass. Strange thing about it is if a white supremacist was talkin to a black guy online and thouht he was white and they hit it off and they both assumed they were of the same race then it'd all be good. Why can't the world be like that?? Oh ya cause all the dumb fucks run everything and there's too many dumb people in the world and not enough people to shoot em. The way I see things is I like ya and respect ya til ya prove me other wise. Whether your white, black, blue, green, orange, moogle, choco, a chick, a dude, or even a damn dwarf, or elf(sorry gnomes no love for you from me lol) respect me I respect you we'll get along fine. And I don't mean be an ass kisser I mean just ya know don't come to me and call me an asshole(unless I told you that was my name lol) and stuff liek that just be cool and chill and we all good. Plus i really do not need another damn assualt charge against me since I'm studying Criminal Justice lol.

Racism won't leave, I agree. It's one of those unfortunate circumstances we have to accept has been embedded into our society. It's nice to see that it has toned itself down a lot during the years but it's still there and I don't think it will disappear as we live in a world which unfortunately contains elitists in regards of skin colour and how whites are better than blacks and vice versa.

I don't think the efforts of MLK could ever be forgotten as he surely brought better living standards for blacks and discrimination of public places has been made illegal (education, transport, jobs) etc. We no longer have groups of white men going from black person to black person torturing them, burning down their homes etc due to the colour of their skin.

All being said, whilst without a doubt we have stopped racism severly, there are always going to be morons who think they're better because they're white/black, which is unfortunate but at least it's the minority of people.

The structure of that opening paragraph defiles my eyes, but I shall refrain from mentioning so from here on out :wacky:

Hell no. You'll still have ignorant pricks out in the world who will discriminate because of colour, and all due to the fact that people are afraid of change, difference, and the unknown. It's silly, really, but humans are weak like that. Squashing racism is like trying to squash evil; it can't be done, but you can minimize it as much as possible.

Is it gone? Is it worse than ever?

See above :monster:

Cause if I hate someone it's prolly cause they A. pissed me off. B. is a jackass. Or C. is a jackass, pissed me off, and is a dumbass.

Based on the ordering there, I assume that the option C is meant to read "C. is a dumbass".

In either case though, I would view this as rather inadequate reasoning for hating someone. Hate is such a strong word. Perhaps dislike someone because they leave a bad impression on you, but in my opinion, you can't truly hate someone until you know them fully, and even then only if they are someone whose every trait grinds your girdle.

For example, I loathe a person in my Children's Literature class because he's rude, inconsiderate, and interrupts people at every turn. I know him fairly well, having socialized with him in the past, and I can honestly say I hate him.

But I only dislike certain people, such as proselytizers, since I don't know them personally, but I know the habit that puts them in that category, and I HATE proselytism.

Just an example :monster:

While racism certainly hasn't been erased, it's much less obvious nowadays. Now it's kind of lurking under the surface of our everyday lives, which only makes it harder to get rid of.

Personally, I couldn't care less what people look like. It's their virtues that determine whether I like them or not. If I dislike a person it has nothing to do with race, it's because they've harmed me in some way.

That doesn't mean they can't just apologize and we'll get along fine though. Forgive and forget. :P

But I digress. When I see a racist, it just makes me sad that somewhere along the road they developed such a prejudice...

But nothin against you I just don't care to hear about my grammar at all I do not care lol get it enough from teachers so please refrain from telling me cause it is just wasted time.
Ya maybe not hate but defintely dislike anyway. C. was more of a an all of the above answer.

It's frightening to think that the only people who are expected to use punctuation and paragraphs to form coherent posts are English majors. This a text based forum, and while nobody is really a total buttfuck grammar nazi, there are certain conventions of written language one should follow when posting to make it not so difficult to understand.

As for the actual topic...

Yes, racism still exists. I'm unsure if it's really that much less than it was fifty years ago, or if it's just become more unacceptable to demonstrate it. I live in New York state, of all places, and there's a considerable portion of racist douchebags around. It's a bit startling.

Of course, I do believe that at some point it very well could become nonexistant. We don't disciminate against left handed people anymore, and the idea of doing that is absurd. Hopefully, in the near future, racism will follow the same road.

Racism still does exist, just a lot less than it had in previous society. The fact that Obama has been elected indicates that the majority of Americans will support a candidate if they agree with their policies, regardless of their ethnicity. It's not like Obama being elected suddenly caused racism to stop.. It just goes to show that the hard work of civil rights leaders has paid off; when you compare it, to say, the 1920s. A big problem that people tend to ignore, though, is the double standards that have ineveitably made way for white-racism as well.

Way to contribute to the post, your argument is hardly debatable. Condescending tones to other members of the forum like that will not get you very far. Also for someone who hates proselytism, you certainly are trying to "think" for other people. It's almost the same, know-it-alls are all the damn same.

Alright, now back to the post. Racism is very much alive but it is indirect often times. I live in Mississippi and we still have people around these parts who only wish the Confederacy will rise again. At the University of Mississippi we used confederate flags to cheer as well as a confederate soldier as our mascot. It was not until 2003 that Colonel Reb was finally removed because of the NAACP.

The thing I have noticed though is there is a lot of reverse discrimination these days around here. From Asians not being able to date outside their race, to black women not being able to date white men. I'm from Nashville,TN so to me this is new. I was so used to people dating whoever the hell they damn well pleased. Also I have now realized that going to Beale Street in Memphis, TN on certain nights is a bad idea. I have never been stared at so much, I felt as if I had a cross-hair on my forehead.

For me though, I have quite a bit of friends who are not white. It's perfectly normal since I work at a software developing firm. Half of the developers are either from India or elsewhere. A System Analyst who is from Napal, India is one of my best friends. We play soccer on the weekends together and carpool every now and again when his wife is in town. We also make fun of one another like any friend would, so to me, it's all the same. I also still have quite a few black friends as well as Asian,Filipino, and puerto rican friends. We hang out in the student union, we hang out online, we hang out at the movies, and so to me.. racism is dead. To me, we are all the same as far as being human. Culturally we may be quite a bit different, but as long as we act like ourselves and not what we are brainwashed into, I see no reason why I can't befriend/date anyone of different skin color or culture.

As Diesel said, people have to earn respect. I may not whole-heartedly open up to you and talk to you on a personal level at first, but in due time anything can happen.

Now the real problem in America would be Mexicans, but that is primarily due to Illegal versus legal. I have very mixed feelings about that, but that is for another thread.
