The new Rurouni Kenshin anime project that was announced a few months ago will be a new two-part remake of the series’ Kyoto arc, according to Japanese site, Comic Natalie (via ANN).

Studio DEEN and director, Kazuhiro Furuhashi, both of whom worked on the original anime series will be working on the new series. The original series voice cast will reprise their roles as well, save for the late Hirotaka Suzuoki, who voiced Saito Hajime. Ken Narita will be voicing Saito in the remake.

Part 1 of the remake will play in Japanese theatres in December. More details can be gleaned over at the Anime News Network link above.

This Kyoto arc remake won’t be the only Kenshin feature to see a theatrical release in Japan. A live-action Rurouni Kenshin film is being produced by Warner Bros. Japan for release in 2012.

Art looks horrible. Honestly, I'm not looking forward for it. However, I'll watch it for the sake of it being RK. I hope the remakes will be about 50+ minutes and not just a measly 24mins OVA. Still, I think RK OVAs were the best in it. It's on a completely another level compared to the TV series.

Indeed. I never really liked RK but I feel I was always too picky with it. Just the "reversed blade sword" and the "not killing people" stuff really bugged me. But I like violent anime so that's why I think I'm so picky. Based on what I've seen above, it will probably be the same show.

That "Reverse Blade Sword" is in the TV series! try watching the OVAs, they are MARVELOUS. Blood and all...

Also, a live-action, what the hell? ._.

the fuck? I thought they'd be making the entire series from scratch? Man I was expecting the jinchuu arc to be animated in its full glory once more...

Ive never looked at this anime before but I heard of it before and one of my favorite japanese artist did the ending for this anime, I dont know which one but it had the name of the anime on the song info.
