When you go up north in Final Fantasy 8 you can find a large crater, it has nothing to do with the story whatsoever or atleast none that I know of. Its in the same place as sephiroths crater was in final fantasy 7, up north where the snow is.

Has anybody else seen this? I've started the game over, when I get to that point i'll take a picture of it in case you guys havent seen it or dont know what im talking about.

Yes, I have seen that crater. If I recall it is from the last lunar cry, nothing to do with Sephiroth at all. I'm sure that gets explained in Esther or somewhere nearby... Maybe in the Laguna dream sequence there?

I think that you're confusing the Centra-Galbadia war with Esthar affairs.

It has crossed my mind that there are similarities in the location and appearance of that crater but, to be honest, I think that's reading too much into it.

There was a location in FFVIII that you can walk to on the world map called the Cetra or Centra Ruins I think, so I thought that might have had to do with FFVII. As for that big crater near Trabia Garden, well, I'm sure that has nothing to do with FFVII. I thought that might have been the impact of the Galbadia Missiles hitting it or something though, but I'm not sure *hasn't played FFVIII in a while*

That one near trabia I assume is just froma previous lunar cry, there cant have only bee the one in centra, the Lunar cry occurs when the moon gets over populated, and thats the only explanation I can think of bar a metorite or summat

But there isn't a crater in Centra, and I don't think the Lunar cry that happens in the game causes a crater?
It could just be an easter egg. Also if you try to fly the guarden over it, it doesn't work properly, which has nothing to do with any possible Lunar cry. I don't think it's ever explained, and I've wondered about it.

ISNT CENTRA ONE GIANT BIG CRATER TOUGH? I JUST CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT IT WAS LIKE WHERE A SMALLER FLOW OF MOON MONSTERS FELL

KELLY TURN CRUISE CONTROL OFF WOMAN! :wacky:
Now back on topic >>;
I never really noticed this, but i'll have a look next time I play it, I think it's possible that they could have done it as an easter egg, you know what they're like with their references to other stuff.:monster:
I doubt it could be mere coincidence if it is true, I never really thought about it tbh.

There's no way Im buying it's an easter egg, as far as craters go, it's quite a pathetic one

Owait, is there any reason it's not a grden cater? It looks exacty like the Balamb one? Maybe it's Trabias and it uh, just got blown really far away? >_>

Or it could just be from a previous one years ago, didnt they used to be alot of them according to Cid or someone and they were like Mobile shelters?

True, that, it could've just been for those eagle eyed gamers out there :monster: xD

Actually, I don't remember them saying there's more than the three Gardens on VIII, that being Balamb, Trabia and Galbadia so this could be the remains of an old Garden I suppose.:monster:
Or it could all just be a coincidence.:wacky:

Chances are, it's only there to stop you from going further south, thus stopping yuo from getting to Esthar, and they dcouldnt be arsed explaining it.

hmm no idea really, sounds like something they would do xD
But I don't see it as anything of relative significance really, it's not that big of a deal imo.
I mean, it's a crater yeah, so what?:wacky:

You're all failing as neither of you can remember:wacky:
It's tiny, obviously not a missile as they smashed Trabia and not an old guarden because there aren't any others, the Cetra made them and were destroyed at the time of Lunar Cry.
Also it doesn't stop you from going anywhere you shouldn't. When you fly over it the Guarden doesn't work. It's also not from a previous Lunar Cry because it just isn't. There's no explanation for it. Nothing more happens like NORG.

I suppose so really, it just seems to be there.
Perhaps it's just there for no reason, I mean, it can be a coincidence, can it not?
It could have been anything really, my guess is just the way the geographics of it turned out, possibly. *shrugs*

Actually, I'm pretty sure it IS from the previous Lunar Cry. Infact, I'm pretty positive about it. And I'm CERTAIN it's mentioned somewhere. That that crater was the landing site of a load of monsters. I'm going to research it though, otherwise it's going to piss me off.

I KNEW I shouldn't have opened this thread. :stare:

If it's anywhere in the game, I imagine it will be on that little control panelly thing in the classroom, after like, my 3rd playthrough I got bored of having to treck alllllll the way to the garden then allll the way to the classroom, so it was liek a while ago >_>

Well honestly I'm not interested in where it came from, but what can you do with it NOW? I mean is there some kind of side quest there that I've missed (impossible, I know^^)? I haven't played it in a while, but I think Nida said smthing like: "The readings are off the scale!"(It's over nine thousaaaaaaaaand! ^^) WTH is up with that?

There's absolutely no sidequest to do with the crater that Im aware of. It just.....there and it's one of those head scratching things that just make you think whhhhy? I swear every playthrough I run into it with the garden, I dunno whtat Im trying to achive by doing that, I think it's just become a bad habit

Ooh come to think of it though, Ive never tried to land on it...I may have tried walking over it, but Im not sure... >_>

Damn you people, I played this game not so long ago and now Im getting the urge to play it again just to ram at this STUPID crater <<

FF8 tried to be better of a game then FF7 I doubt they'd use references cause of that

They could both be called the northern crater right? But like others have said its doubtful that it means anything. If it is an easter egg its not a very good one since not much is said anout it. Well needless to say its an alright find but I don't think it has anything to do with Sephiroth.
