I've been playing for 23 hours so far... and I'm on Chapter 10... Is this game as short as I'm seeing it? D: I certainly hope not! Because I'll be sad if the game ends within the next 10 hours... And 23 hours is pretty short for a Final Fantasy game... shouldn't I only be like 1/3 or half way through the game at 23 hours?

You may well finish the storyline within around 40 hours, but in order to unlock 10% of your trophies I think you will be looking at somewhere upwards of 150 hours, just to get your characters to where they need to be for some of the missions and certain enemies. But yes, the story is certainly NOT one of the longest.

Well that's disappointing D:

I was hoping it would last me as long as Final Fantasy VIII and have the super long story... I still don't think the characters are bonded enough with each other :S They still seem a bit shy...

Eh, I hate when a new FF game ends. Just when you think it's long, it ain't. And im on Chapter 5, so I dunno.

Well, they did say that they took a lot of content out of the game for some reason or another. Probably would have been uber long if they left it all in there. Kind of disappointing, though.

The main reason why it seems so short is because the player doesn't have the ability to do a ton of sidequests for the majority of the game and the pace prevents you from level grinding (which I'm assuming takes up 90% of an FF player's time).

Well if you laak it it closely its about 50 Hours without sidequests. I guess the time just means how fast you play the game. Like im on chapter XI with 27 hours or so and I wont beat the game till I at least have 50 because I here chappy XI is really long. Plus if you spend time on the Archlyte Steppe too get Crystarium points it should be longer. Like enjoy the scenery a bit fi you know what I mean xD Im gonna try to get all the acheivements so you know I will be playing REALLY long.

Won't get to start playing it for some three weeks longer, but yeah, I'm sure with including all side quests and fully building up the characters and weapons and so forth, players could get a lot of play time out of it overall, even if the majority of it isn't playing through main storyline, at least a decent chunk is.

It could always be shorter, be glad it isn't Call of Duty short, it certainly has some length to the story of it, just enjoy each moment and don't countdown to the final chapter all the time, and be thinking it was so short, I'm positive the length is fine, and there will be a ton more to do afterwards, so there will be no huge lack of things to do, master the Saboteur role and be the ruination of your enemies! xD

All I know is the PS3 version is the full one. The 360 version has had quite abit removed. Its dissapointing that the story is so damn short and its mainly side missions. Im starting to wonder if it was blooming worth it ...

I'm pretty sure they're the same exact game, graphics aside.

Really? I wouldn't know because I don't have each copy for both systems (only PS3) so i wouldn't be able to compare however, that must be a bummer! It should be fair....>_>

I think i'm still on chapter 4? maybe 5. haven't checked. Im about 5hrs into the game and what ive seen is that its the cutsences. It takes up a lot of time while battling is short. I like the game so far and I'm nowhere near anyone of you guys (playtime/chapter wise) x] but, I like my games long and challenging. Makes the money worth it. While if it were easy and not long.

So far, the game seems easy....

NO the graphics, well everything is the same for ps3 and xbox.
However their tons of rumors out their that says different.
because a ton of people are mad that it came out on xbox.

I know i done proper looking into it and also i brought the game for both systems.

I just reached the final chapter and I think I've logged about forty-five hours. I've been level grinding a lot though and am again right now so that I can max out everyones default roles before I tackle the final chapter. As of right now I feel like the story part may be a tad short but not so much that it's a huge problem. I was a little caught off guard that i'd (almost) reached the end already...but I'm that way with pretty much all games. As a game I don't think it's that short...escpecially not if you spend some time doing the missions and CP farming. I actually usually finish FF games in under 40 hours so this ones actually taking longer...although I'm kind of putting that down to the fact that with the whole stagger aspect random battles can take a while depending on the enemy...

There are differences, however, the storyline is the same, yes. As for the graphics, the PS3 does have better as it runs at 768p with 1080p for CGI's whereas the X360 version runs at 576p throughout the entire game and the audio quality of the PS3 version is better though I would guess 99.9% wouldn't notice the difference.

Back on topic, I wouldn't say Final Fantasy XIII is that much of a short game if it takes around 40/50 hours. You could probably average that and most RPGs if you avoided the sidequests and everything else. It's the missions, trophies etc that make FFXIII a long game so I would just do them anyway to lengthen it.

Yeah. I've done some of the sidequests and I'm already up to 66 hours. You need to do a HUGE amount to get all of the trophies on this game, including saing a large quantity of gil, which as those who have played know is not easy at all.

As for the differences, I have the PS3 versoin and my brother has the Xbox version. The game itself is exactly the same, and although those with it on Xbox won't be pleased to hear it the graphics are different. Side by side there are a few noticeable differences (mostly during cutscenes like Ryan said above), however the Xbox graphics are by no means bad, in fact as far as Xbox games go they are some of the best graphics I've seen.

I'm rather confused as to why people would be bitching so much about a 40-50 hour story in this game? Isn't that about how long FFX's was, just storywise? (I've not played FFX in a loooooong time so I don't remember...maybe it was more, I dunno.) I mean storywise I think that's how much I logged in before I went off to do sidequests and beat the final boss. 50 hours of story isn't enough for you? o_o I mean good gracious. At least they put sidequests in the game for you all to gain trophies and all that good stuff just like all the other Final Fantasy games.

What I don't understand is that people bitch, moan and complain that the cutscenes are too long, the FMVs are too long, most of the game is like a movie. You don't get much gameplay, blah blah etc... I can't even word what I want to say properly because I'm so damn confused. It's like no matter what, people are never satisfied. It's ridiculous. Maybe you should consider yourselves lucky we even got a new FF game in the first place and stop expecting so much and be happy with what you got.

I 100 % agree with Mandi on this. The game is not SHORT at all. It gets so frickin hard later when you get to chapter XI. Challenging enemies await in chap XI. So depending on how good you are you wont pass it fast. XIII is A really LONG game. I am at chapter XI in a week and 2 days. But then again thats because I PLAYED alot. But the game is LONG and you will lose on lots of battles. So Like Mandi said Its better an FF game the no FF :ffs:

Serah farron-- yup you're right. I've played X through more than 20 times (yes, I'm serious). Sometimes pwning, sometimes just beating the story. It doesn't seem short, but it's at around the 50, maybe 60 hour, mark. Quicker of course everytime you play.

As for XIII, its the same. It may seem short, but thats because the story is preseted so wonderfully, it just flies by. I've sat for 5 hours and it felt like one. It gets hard in the latter chapters, and you'll spend a lot of time griding.

This. I remember looking at the time played on the party menu and thinking "it's been 25 hours?". You know a game did its job when it doesn't feel like you've been playing nearly as long as you truly have.

Well, there are some optional things on Gran Pulse that adds few hours to the overall gamehours :) and achievements.
