Currently I’m going through all hunts and side quests, and also endeavoring to obtain some of the best weapons in the game. However, I’m doing so with the help of guides. I rarely use guides for the actual story line in games unless I’m really stuck. But most of the time the direction in the main story is quite easy to follow.

But when it comes to hunts and quests, I often wonder how one earth people are supposed to work some of them out. Why did Square seek to make some of their side quests so indistinct that there are hundreds of possibilities for the next step with absolutely no clear indication of where to begin.

For instance, during a particular hunt, a boy drops the Site 11 key which obviously lands somewhere in the world of Ivalice…But the question is WHERE? How does Square expect gamers to actually find this key? Why would they give no indication as to where it was dropped.

Furthermore, during another hunt you must clear all monsters in two areas for the Behemoth or whatever to appear. Once again, how are gamers supposed to know they must do this? There was never a hint to do so.

When doing the ‘Chaos’ Esper quest you have to talk this creature man (forgot his name). Then he says farewell to you in Dalan’s house but to continue with the esper quest you must speak to him again. How are gamers supposed to know they must speak with him again, and how the hell are they supposed to know he’s in the Magic Shop in Archades.

I really don’t know why Square would make their quests so difficult. Without guides, these hunts and mini quests would take tedious and annoying days on end to finish.

I agree sort of... But I can answer many of those questions lol

For the key, the boy gives you a very good hint. When he tells you he dropped it he say's, "I'm sure it will wash up on some distant shore". There's only one beach in the game and that's Phon Coast so there's only that area to search.

As for clearing the monsters, I guess you just need to be thorough with your killing. They assume that you'll chance across alot of these side quests and I like how they made them harder. I've always complained that side quests and stuff in games are way too easy. :-\

I do see what you mean though and without guides I'd be screwed as well haha

It's actually not as bad as you think for the Hunts that Montblonc gives you. I think enough hints are given throughout the side-quest.

Rare game on the other hand, even I had a hard time finding or getting to come out of the wood-work. Having put so many hours into the game, I still don't even have close to half of the rare Creatures in my bestiary.

You can always find hints along your way but i found some of the quests to be hard but fun as well. It's better then having the NPC's come up to you and tell you the location etc.

I did saw a guide for 3 things.

- Behemot King; I spend hours looking for that damn Mark, after looking for clues on the Hall where Montblanc is, I couldn't find a thing. So I looked at Gamefaqs.

- Yiazmat; Exactly the same as above, how would I guess I needed to defeat Hell Wyrm and entering that door I needed to open certain doors in a order.

- Zodiac Spear; I don't believe there is a single person who found the weapon by himself and 'accidentally' missed some easy-to-get and impossible-to-miss treasures.

Taking this apart I completed the whole game by myself. Of course for aiming at 100% a guide is needed, but I'm not going to achieve that. Maybe on my next playthrough.

Basically you need a guide to do some of the hunts epscially the later ones. Some of the hunts are "sensitive" in a way. What this means is that there are some prerequisites that must be completed for said mark to arrive. The only way to know what these are is buy getting a guide. Also some of the weapons and hidden epsers need a guide to find because otherwise there is no way that anyone will know what items are needed or where to find them off the top of their head. Bottom line get the guide and save yourself the headache down the road.
