I've been looking to start an RP up for a little while now, and thought it would be a good idea to have a FFVII themed one.

I've got an idea for a storyline, which I won't type up entirely right now for a couple of reasons. The main one being that I hate typing it all out only to find out that there aren't a lot of people interested, or the people that have signed up aren't really active.

Instead, I'll give you a snipet of the idea I have. Obviously everyone knows the popularity and success of FFVII. I though that we could use aspects of the FFVII world, but not replicate the story already told.
My idea for the story would take place a few years after the main story:

Enigma

5 years have passed since Sephiroth has been vanquished. The world seems to be in a state better than it has ever been. There have been no wars, no fights and no bloodshed. People look to be enjoying life, rather than fighting for it.

Cloud and Co have been lying low since the events of the past, trying not to draw attention to themselves, trying to forget it all.
Each member of the group chose to go their separate ways and live their life how they wanted it. Along the way, small groups have come and gone; trying to disrupt the harmony of Gaia.

Some believe that somewhere, ShinRa still function, still plot and have simply been deploying these groups as decoy's while they reform.
Rumours like these have been circulating ever since the prevention of Meteor. The rumours never held any merit, until recently.

Various reports were being made that crime was increasing considerably. People were being mugged for materia and stores were being robbed.
These reports were eminating from one location especially. Midgar.


There will be some canon characters but with the inclusion of characters of your own.

Rules

1.> No Godmoding
2.> Stick to the FFF rules and regulations
3.> No overly strong characters (especially if original) This means nothing like "Cloud casted Ultima and killed everything :gasp:" Probably similar to no godmoding.
4.> Try to Stay active. It would be a massive shame if we get into the RP but can't really carry on because people aren't posting any more.
5.> Combat is RP based. Any kind of boss characters we come across can't be beaten in a few, short posts.
6.> Stick to 6 pieces of materia or less to begin with. That's not the maximum for the whole RP, just to begin with.
7.> Don't go crazy with HP plus materia! If you have it, maximum of 1 please.
8.> Nothing too powerful to begin with (see rules 1 and 3!)

That's about it, rule wise. Nothing else I can think of.

Just to repeat, above is only a snippet of the main story ;) For now I just want to know if you're interested in taking part, and if you have any ideas that could play a good part in an RP. I'll post the storyline very soon if we get enough interest.

I'd be down for this. It's been a while since we've had a solid FF7 RP around here, so it's about time for one.
 
I might give this a look see, just wondering about some things...

What are weapons limited to? Will we mostly have advanced weaponry like firearms or more medieval style stuff like swords and spears?

What will be our maximum materia power? Naturally I assume we won't all be shooting out Fire3 and Tornado like it's going out of style, and what about summons? Will they be included?

Also, are there any locations we can't start at, for whatever reason? Or any new locations available? (since this is a new, yet along the same lines of the original FF7 story)

That's all I can think on now :gasp:
 
The weapons question is a tricky one to answer, mainy because the weapons in ffvii are a mix of both! I'd say if you can find a happy medium, then that would be perfect.

As for the magic, It's a good point. I'd hope people wouldn't be ridiculous and go crazy - I guess it's all dependant on peoples bio's. It makes for a bad rp if people make themself indestructable. The same goes for summons really.

The last point is a good idea. I think it's fine to use existing places, but It's no problem if people want to create somewhere. It doesn't have to be exactly like FFVII.

Also, just wondering in terms of unique abilities, would we be allowed anything that isn't strictly human? Such as Vincent having his transformations or Cloud's superior strength from the Jenova cells etc, providing we have a good reason, of course. Or are we all just going to be normal in that regard?

It's always good to see people "grow" like a character in the game would. Start with Fire, Ice, and Bolt, then get the 2s... then the 3s... etc.

On the note of "existing," just want to clarify since it's an alternate story, are canon characters are going to be allowed/used/encouraged?
 
I think any different abilities will need to be taken on merit. It's the same concept as the magic, we dont want people making themselves too over the top; obviously its against the rules ;)
Canon characters are the exception though. Such as vincent. We all know his story and his ability is integral to his character.

Terry, I agree with you completely, watching the characters develop is great. I'd hope thats what people choose to do.

I'd definitely encourage Canon characters. It keeps the familiarity of FFVII there.
I think what I'm going for is a good mix of FFVII (characters, locations, materia etc...) with people adding to it along the way. Whether its in the form of characters or locations.
 
Also, since it's similar to FF7, i'm going to assume there will be a Sephiroth or Sephiroth-like 'main bad guy' with all this? :hmmm:
 
You assume correct! Interested in taking that role maybe? Nothings set in stone though, there could be right hand men to an alpha bad guy as well, depends what people want I guess.

Also, in regards to the story flow, I assume our characters can act on their own tuition rather than being 'forced' to certain events that happened in FF7? Say, hijacking the Tiny Bronco/alternate plane equivalent?

I think the lead bad guy should be significantly more powerful, as any bad guy is, but not so much so that it breaks the rules!

Characters should definitely go by their own accord, I just want to use a few idea's from the main FFVII plot, not every event. Those few ideas arent even copies, they're just using the concept. For example, the idea of a powerful force attempting to obtain an incredible form of materia. I like that idea, but dont want to replicate it with sephiroth etc. It's been done and won't be interesting to just replicate it.

I think things will clearer once i type up the full plot, rules and everything else :)
 
Query: Would this be with original characters, or using the pre-existing characters in VII? If original characters are used, are they allowed to be related to certain other characters or have some sort of history with the pre-existig party? Obviously Cloud's twin brother is a bit much, nothing directly related.. but.. ahh, I dunno what I mean.

A mix of both really. I'd like to see people use already existing characters, but it's not essential to the storyline that each one of them is used.
It's really the decision of you guys. If you want to use a canon character then that's fine, but if you want to use you own original character then that's fine too.
I see what you mean about history with an original character, and I think it's a good idea. Like you said, something like Cloud's twin brother is obvious a bit much, it's all about common sense really.

Depending on how much more interest we get, I'll get about typing up the plot soon.
 
As as far as the big bad guy is concerned, if I end up taking on that role i'm free to come up with his own goals and ambitions? So he wouldn't have to be connected with getting his hands on this materia, or even like Sephiroth's plan to harm the planet to attain godhood? He can just have his own unique plan which doesn't rest well with the heroes?

Tough one. The original idea I had for the RP was to have someone attempt to obtain an ultimate form of materia, but if you've got a good idea in mind, let me know and I can alter the plot. I'm definitely open to suggestion.

Whichever is convenient for you, I have no problem sticking to the story you have in mind, just wanted to know if i'm affiliated with that or if I do my own thing xD
 
I have never done a RP in my life so I have no idea how this works..but I have some ideas in my head for like years..never done anything with it..somehow those ideas stick in my head/imagination its weird...

Well if I join I would try to figure out some original char..

Hope this stays active man,,tbh I am really interested..helps my grammar and kill time as well..

I have never known what RP is all about..can anybody explain this newbie :gonk:

No problem buddy. To keep it as simple as possible, an RP is like a text based RPG; or a story. Each member involved has their own role to play, their own character. What you decide to write depends on how the story has progresses. The best advice I can give you is to look through some currently active RP's and see what people do in them, and also look at how they work from the beginning. Hope that helps a bit.

Chargar if you're willing to play the bad guy, I think we should maybe think of a few idea's. No idea was set in stone, I'm always up for listening to other idea's. PM me if you come up with anything good!

Check out the OP please guys, I've just put some of the story up. I made the decision that the story takes place after Sephiroth attempted to summon Meteor. Otherwise, we run the risk of just completely copying FFVII!

A couple of important points:

-Story begins after Sephiroth/Meteor.
-Canon characters disbanded and went back to hometowns e.g. Midgar, Rocket Town etc...
