When the shops seem to think Xmas is just around the corner. Seriously, is it just me that fucking hates it this much? Does it get earlier every year? Id probably still like it if they fucking laid off til at least November.

Just seen my first Xmas ad as well. I never watch tv, finally turn it on, and thats the first thing i see. Here we go again :hmph:

I hate this shit too. One holiday is coming up and the stores are selling for the one after it. But, I guess it is their best marketing strategy; big savings and what not. But I agree, annoying as hell.

omg I am pretty sure some stores over here had the Xmas shit out in July!!

Are they kidding??? 5 months before Christmas is bullshit. Does anyone actually buy the stuff that early? And you know, as soon as Xmas is over the Easter stuff gets put in it's place. I couldn't believe how early the Easter eggs were out last year.

Dont you realize that everything revolves around CHristmas.. or "the holidays" meaning the winter holidays...

At the beginning of the year it's "Buy stuff after the holiday" or "lose that weight you gain from the holidays" In the summer its "enjoy the summer time before the holidays get here" In the fall it's "getting closer to the holidays, time to save money." and then its "The holidays are here".

I LOVE Christmas. Gingerbread cookies, home cooked meals, days off from work. In fact, in my house, I think I should have one room dedicated entirely to this most wonderful of holidays. :D

I should also note that Christmas music is the best and I never grow tired of it. I love going to the mall and looking at all of the decorations. ^_^

How fun, now I'm in the mood to go Xmas shopping on ebay. :hyper:

I actually went into Big W the other day, the weekend after Father's Day and I saw Christmas Stockings on one of their display ends.

I was like, 'What?'

Isn't it still September?

It feels like it is getting earlier every year. As soon as one event is over they start with the next. It leaves you no time in between to really enjoy one holiday at a time before they leap into the next.

I don't know who would seriously start Christmas shopping now, but retailers seem to think there will be plenty of people eager to get at least most of it out of the way now before all that frantic hustle and bustle as December draws near. So, why not drag out the Christmas period a bit and stock things early at full price? The longer you stock them, the longer you can keep the items at full price before the Christmas clearances, right, and like, maximise the sales in as many ways as you can? Well, like I said, I don't know anyone who would seriously start Christmas shopping in the middle of September, but there must be plenty of customers who do.

It doesn't annoy me really, only if adverts keep popping up on TV prematurely however. The most it can do is make me think ooh! - it's Christmas already? Oh no, it's only....September. Still a ways to go until the holidays. :gonk:

It doesn't generally affect me. I don't watch much TV, and when I do I tend to watch it on playback / recording at a time that is more convenient and hence forward through adverts if there are any.

When walking about in the world generally, I get a bit concerned at the Christmas things popping up now. I was concerned the other day even seeing Halloween stuff already... I haven't noticed much in terms of Christmas, but I just tend to ignore it. I think it is silly, but I can understand why they do it, even if I don't believe it is right.

I'll do Christmas in my own way and I do not need to be reminded of it 4 months early so that I can part with all the cash I don't have.

If it were down to me, I wouldn't even mention Christmas until December. Preparing is one thing, and gathering things and planning for your own Christmas day can be important... But for things to be Christmas-centric in mid-September... I can understand why people grow to hate Christmas, just like people hate anything which they feel is forced down and consumed by the masses.

to be fair, i have to admit to having all my xmas shopping done by the end of last september, but that was just to get it out of the way so i could forget about it and not have to endure the other xmas shoppers. it just sends people crazy. I just dont think its any fun anymore, its just bonkers.

I don't start thinking about Christmas until after my birthday, to be honest. I'll start considering it a little earlier than I usually do this year though, because I want to send presents to a couple of people through the mail, which needs to be done in November if I want them to actually get there, but...eh. It's right at the back of my mind at the moment.

I think I enjoy the initial atmosphere of Christmas. The first couple of weeks od December, I'll be singing along to Twisted Sister's Christmas album and wondering when the decorations are going up. But after that I get tired of it pretty quick, and the actual day is always rather anticlimactic, especially since they don't put anything worth watching on TV these days...and I've gotten old and bitter. I like the weather more than I do anything else. Cold, dark and potentially snowy. Martel weather.

They advertise early every year. Its not actually getting earlier though. As brits we just like to complain about christmas and the holiday seasons arriving too soon.
Every year i say il get the shopping out of the way early and every year im fannyin about on christmas eve after work like a madman trying to find something in stock that isnt too shitty to pass off as gifts for the family.
I actually quite like the reminders of christmas. Its a time of year where i get a week off work, sometimes a few days more. I get good food and have good drinks. I enjoy christmas so the posters and adverts just get me more in the mood.

Sometimes though i spy that snowman poster and think oh fuck the snow will be here soon. Then i get thoughts of cold workshops with no heating and freezing cauld feet. Bus stops in the blizzard...D:

Im still 70/30 in favour though.

I don't hate it. I can completely understand why this happens and tend to joke about it, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to start your shopping for the holidays earlier. For one, it gives people a chance to avoid the crowds AND the stress of shopping at the last minute, which most people I know tend to do. It's a great way to get things off your checklist. While I do think that some of the ploys to get people buying stuff for the holidays earlier (like playing Christmas music on the radio the day after Thanksgiving), it's really not going to kill or affect us that much unless you really let it.
