SOUL EATER

Only weeks have passed since Sora and Riku finally managed to defeat Xemnas. Since then, the pair of them and Kairi have been settling back into the life of Destiny Islands. But as a strange feeling grips Riku, formerly a puppet of Malificent and former wielder of the darkness, he isolates himself away from Sora and Kairi. He feels something is missing in his life. Eager to listen to his heart, he decides that something isn't right as he would always think.

Meanwhile, in the other worlds, the Heartless are rising again. No one knows who is causing this or what the cause may be. But something is clear. Old and new enemies are rising. Led by an unknown voice, Riku will find a way out of Destiny Islands and discover what is truly happening in the worlds. And with Sora now manipulated by the darkness and Kairi being kidnapped by the Heartless, it's up to Riku to save the day.

But will discovering the truth change things for better ... or for worse?

Chapter 1: Another Journey

Riku woke up one day on Destiny Islands to feel he was missing something. He placed a hand to his heart and sighed. Many thoughts were running through his mind. We defeated the Organization, but … for the past few days, I’ve been feeling really strange. What is this feeling? He noticed Sora and Kairi talking on the beach. He sighed and walked through the islands. He came to the other part of the island, where he was alone.

“Xehanort …what have you done to me?” he whispered in anger. “You’ve done something to me, I know it. My heart doesn’t feel in place right now. There’s something missing. There’s something out there – and it’s going to swallow us whole.”

Suddenly, he saw a Heartless appear. He summoned the Road to Dawn immediately. Heartless? I thought that we destroyed them … what are they doing here? More of them began to appear. Riku rushed forward and continuously slashed through them. His anger was rising. He felt that he needed the darkness to get rid of them, but then he realised. He didn’t have it anymore with him. Not ever since the last adventure he had with everyone else.

“You no longer wield the darkness,” said a voice in his head. “But if you want to find something dear to you, then step forward. Allow the darkness to devour you. Let it be a part of you and then you’ll find your missing piece in your heart.”

Riku didn’t question who the voice was at first, it seemed so familiar to him. He placed a hand on his heart feeling that something WAS indeed missing. “I know who you are,” he said. “And it’s not working! You won’t lead me into the darkness anymore. It’s over and I won’t go out to find what’s missing.”

“If you don’t go, then you will feel like this for the rest of your life. Find what is missing deep inside of you. Go and discover the hidden truths about yourself. Let the darkness devour you and you can use it as your own weapon. Step into the portal ahead.”

A dark portal appeared. Riku thought of Sora and Kairi, but he shook his head. “No, this is something I have to do,” he said to himself. “No matter how dangerous it may be, I’ll be fine. I have been before and I will be now. I’m sorry, Sora, Kairi. But I can’t stay here feeling like this. I’m sorry … I’ll come back one day, I promise.”

He stepped through the dark portal and the darkness was now a part of him again. He felt those same dark feelings he had once felt when under the influence of Xehanort who had once used the name of Ansem. But Xehanort wasn’t alive this time. He and Sora had both defeated him to end all of the fighting. He knew that it wasn’t over when they had returned to Destiny Islands. It wasn’t even over yet.

As he opened his eyes, he knew where he was immediately as he rose to his feet. Riku was in Traverse Town, one of the many places he had been to when he had found Sora a year ago. Not much time had passed since the battle with the Organization, perhaps only a few weeks. Riku looked around to find that hardly anyone was here. He sighed, as he felt a little bit lonely. I guess Sora’s friends aren’t here anymore; they must be at Radiant Garden like he told me. With the Road to Dawn at his hand, Riku stepped forward in the third district ready for anything that the world had to throw at him. A fierce determination was seen in his green eyes.

Quite a good first chapter, Ami. There's not a lot I can criticise about it. However, it seems it bit too quick, if you know what I meant. In only a few paragraphs, he's moved onto another world and had a fight. Things happen little too suddenly, but with a tad more description, possibly even about his surroundings, it would be even better.

I like how you've written Riku. It really reminds me of his character which we see in the games. I also like where the story is going, along with the Title. I'm also writing a Riku fic, over multiple times (between each game, through each game - basically a novelisation of everything about Riku :P), maybe we could exchange ideas sometime? Then again, it might be quite one-sided, I'm a little dead on the imagination front :P

Good work :D
