It seems suspicious that at the ending video, that Squall isn't recorded by Zell's camcorder. and the scenes with Squall are only with Rinoa. Which leads me to believe that Squall died at the end and Rinoa is delusional. What do you think?

he WAS found and she kissed him and.......wait for it........he actually smiled.o_Oit was the first time ever.

My friend had a theory that he died and Rino brought him back to life.

From what I can remember, he goes back with Ultimecia and watches her give her powers to Edea, thus starting the whole circle again. However Squall knows that he'll defeat her. At that point he still appears dead. After that, it's as Fishy says, Squall and Rinoa live happily ever after having babies and stuff, getting a new dog so Angelo and it can have puppies. All the time knowing that there's a Squall in the future and one in the past so that technically he is immortal.

Really? I just assumed that he had died, even though Rinoa had found him. This is just basing it off of him being absent from the ending credit video. That and the fact that I have never actually beaten FFVIII myself, but watched my brother beat it several years ago. <_<

Well that would seem to support the theory that Rinoa is simply the past form of Ultimecia.
Basically, some people believe that Ultimecia wants to compress time in the future simply because Squall doesn't exist in the future and thus she can't be with him. But if all time was compressed into a single moment then Squall would exist.
It would finally give Ultimecia some depth and a motive, as well as explain how she knew anything about Griever (from Squalls ring).

The biggest problem with the theory is that Ultimecia almost killed Rinoa in the game, so unless she's just completely insane she'd be a fool to do that.

But that's just what some people think. Personally, I just think Squall lived at the end. I don't see enough evidence to connect Rinoa and Ultimecia like that.
I'd also like to point something out, I seem to recall Squall walking towards her and then kissing her, so Squall may have originally just been out of Zell's view when he was recording.
I think they just wanted to surprise you with his smile and the fact that he lived at the same time, instead of Zell recording it and the player being like "oh he lived!" and being so surprised they missed the smile.

I think he lived. But then I like to think that ramza and his sister survived in war of the lions. Becuase If orran was diliosunal or seing things then Ramza may never have exsisted at all.

You see on the video camera footage through the door Rinoa doing that thing with her finger, then the camera like cuts off into the colour FMV thingy , and it shows him stood there next to her, she wouldnt be stood doing that to herself Now would she

Hmm, it's interesting once you mention it. True, Squall could have died and Rinoa could be just imagining it all, but then at the end, the Squall+Rinoa kissing scene would have looked awkward if Rinoa was seen by others kissing and embracing air.

PS, the whole Squall smiling thing was cool, but the big grin was a bit too much. It made him look unnatural in my opinion.

People should know that it is always wrong to turn of your playstation/tv after completing a game.
Always watch the credits until you see "The End"
And then you should try all kinds of button combinations to see if anything els might happen.

Then nobody would be confused about the ending.
He lives, because Rinoa's not stupid. She's not going to smile at a dead Squall and kiss thin air.
If she is, then I can imagine her being Ultimecia. But that is bull too. Because if you kill your younger self, you can't exist in the future. Although the whole time thing is pretty confusing.
I believe there's a faq on gamefaqs that explains quite a lot. Wether its true or not.. who knows. (Square yes but they wont tell)

Lol somebody made up a theory that Squall died during the parade
And the moments that happen during CD2 & CD 3 are just a massive dream
and during the ending Squall wakes up and realizes that he was dreaming and dies.

But then the camera part doesn't make sense because the SeeD's are celebrating Squall's death ? - Whut ? -__-

Sorry just like that theory.

Rinoa seems pretty nutty sometimes, so maybe Rinoa did the finger-thing to remember Squall by and maybe the smiling Squall is a ghost ?
:awesome:

But pretty sure when Squall faints. Rinoa's love for him awakes him. And the desert looking place Squall is lost in becomes/ changes into the flower field where they both promised to meet. Their happy place where they were supposed to go during the time change. ^^

I never actually thought deeply about it...

I think it is only done in order to make the moment more dramatic.

As for Ultimecia, I think she simply wanted to wipe out all existence.
She said something like "All existence denied" (or something like that) when fighting against her.

Besides, basically everyone exist in the past as well, so I don't see a reason why Squall has to be different from others.
If everyone else survived, then he should survive as well.

I think Squall lived, pretty much because of what everyone else has said. I could see Rinoa maybe glancing and acknowledging a hallucination, but not reaching up and kissing one. Plus the party would probably be more subdued if Squall had died.

(I like Rinoa-as-Ultimecia theories, too, but I haven't read one that's really convinced me, yet.)
