Strange FFXII Characters

Two things about the characters selected from FFXII:

1)
Why there is no protagonist from FFXII? Is it because it hard to tell who is the protagonist? I always thought Vaan is protagonist anyway.
They could at least include on of the following characters: Vaan, Balthier, Llyud, Ashe.
I think maybe it because there is a protagonist from FFXI instead.

2)
Why Gabranth is the antagonist and not

Vayne

?
I know he appears on the game's cover and all, but I still don't see him as the antagonist of the game.

The reason why Vaan was not added is unclear, it might plain be because Shantotto and Gabranth are secret characters, without too much value to the story. Saves SE some work.

Gabranth being chosen is the same as Jecht being chosen; According to SE they hold more value to their corresponding games stories. Plus Gabranth has lots more fans than Vayne, which results in better sales.

well for one gabranth is much more popular than vayne and also, vaan was a terrible protagonist for ff12 in my opinion although i am not a huge fan of shantotto either

They were only meant to be extras, because Square Enix decided to be lazy
