The 'Incident' - the catastrophe that Hugh Darrow, the Father of Tomorrow, unleashed on all augmented people. The impact was a worldwide phenomenon. Governments began limiting the augmentations available to civilians and more began to gain an anti-augmentation sentiment. Purists became more riled up, and more join their ranks.

Nevertheless, technology remains unobstructed as augmentations develop further to produce nano-augmentation. Still in it's experimental stages, nano-augmentation has heavy side-effects but it offers a possibility of 'true transhumanism'.

16 years later, anti-augmentation groups are still a living force and they have grown stronger than before. Ironically accepting members that are augmented, they engage in terrorism to end augmentation once and for all, citing the 'Incident' as basis for their actions.

This role play is set 16 years after the events of Deus Ex Human Revolution and 9 years before the original Deus Ex. I am thinking of placing the role play in Detroit, as with Human Revolution for two reasons.

We could have an easy map reference XD

Sarif Industries. They are still the leading company in the area of augmentation research and development.

[Open to Suggestions]

Bio-mechanical augmentations as is oft-seen in the world of Deus Ex: Human Revolution is now even more oft-seen. The problem of neuropozyne addiction still exists however, since there are still problems attempting to resolve the issue of rejection.

Nevertheless, there are small breakthroughs in this area, with scientists working on a way to reduce the possibility of rejection somehow. That, however, is still a work in progress - though it is possible to obtain them for exorbitant prices.

Nano-augmentations, they next big thing in the area of augmentations is still in experimental stages. There are a few nano-augments available, but those are in their beta stages. Most, if not all, cause some form of heavily negative side effects that usually deter many from using them.

However, it is much more aesthetically pleasing than bio-mechanical augments and some offers impressive benefits that puts bio-mechanical augments to shame.

The focus of this role play would be on the conflicts between governmental organizations with the terrorist group, 'Purity First', as well as the crime groups in the city.

There are three groups I would recommend that you be in.

Corporate Muscle

Deus Ex: Human Revolution's Adam Jensen would fall under this category. The 'Corporate Muscle' refers to a heavily augmented soldier that works for a company. It essentially means a private army, which is not legal at this point in time due to the restrictions that the government have imposed on civilians.

Usually, there is some amount of bribery happening to coax the government into closing an eye to these Corporate Muscles. Of course, they are expected to keep a low profile as well. And of course, they are expected to help the government if need be. (Emphasize on 'expected')

Ace

This would be a super soldier linked to crime organizations. Definitely illegal; they are often involved in wet work and generally do not have that low a profile. This usually means they have to constantly be on their guard, from both the police and rival gangs.

There are currently two crime organizations that have rose to prominence recently in Detroit - 'Calamity' and 'Raiders'. Both organizations are huge enough to deal with a wide plethora of things from illegal gambling to prostitution to assassination of political figures.

Government-linked Super Soldiers

These soldiers does not necessarily have to be from the military. Sometimes, the government grabs dying people to test out their latest augmentations and it unexpectedly pays off. The grateful becomes the loyal and thus becomes a government-linked super soldier - that is an alternative scenario.

These super soldiers are expected to constantly be at the government's beck and call, and at the time of this role play, is usually very busy with crimes committed by the crime organizations as well as the terrorist group, Purity First - whose leader is said to be based in Detroit.

First and foremost, this role play is always open to suggestions. The plot is still rather basic and lacks the depth that the Deus Ex series has. Also, there is no limit on the number of role players but I don't think I'll let the numbers get beyond 5 or 6? Of course, that's assuming there is that much interest in the first place.

That... And I would love to have another GM to help me on this role play. This one looks to be a really tedious affair should it take off, and I could certainly use an extra head in planning plot arcs... Of course, I'm not looking at just one GM.. Two, actually. It's up to you.

I would hope there are characters from the three groups, but it does not matter that much, really.

That, and also, this role play would probably be involving a lot of fights, so combat augmentations are highly recommended. You can have a character that cannot fight - your choice - but it'll be hell for you when the fights begin.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask.

Hehe! Shotgun post spot! With Ringo and Draco's rp seeming to be on indefinite hiatus, i am going to apply for this rp. Which type i have yet to choose tho.
If you need help, im more than glad to assist.

I've been contemplating on me joining this RP since I haven't played the game yet. (Really sucks to be a poor college student right about now... -__-) I might join what with FF9 now having slowed down a bit due to college life, but I won't make a final decision till later.

I might join because I've got probably more Deus Ex knowledge than most people here :-)wacky:). Didn't end up reading the final post in the interest check thread because I was at school and it was a real pain to read all that on an iPod, so if you don't mind me asking, which ending to HR did you choose to go off of? That and I'll need character ideas :hmmm: I'd say more than just Detroit for setting. Detroit obviously will get boring and we'll need some areas that need infiltrating etcetera :gasp: I'll add more as I read through this and think about it.

EDIT: Okay, not too many combat augmentations, as Deus Ex is more centered on stealth with the option of heavy combat. Obviously some people may want to have their character sneak around similar to how they might choose to act in game. And of course if someone's character chooses to be on the Purity First side, they won't have any augmentations at all (these characters will be the full on combat with less stealth). I may sound like I'm looking at this like it's a game, but that's okay I guess :gasp: And we should definitely use the Wiki. I use it a lot for this stuff.

Yep. The Deus Ex Wikia is currently the best place to get all your Deus Ex information for now.

Tipsynaruto

Well, take your time. :D

Noblesse Oblige

Hm. No worries. The Deus Ex Wikia should fill you up with all the information you would need. This role play doesn't follow the story so much due to the non-linearity of the game.

Draklor

No worries about the final post in the interest check. I essentially copied the stuff over to this thread here so if you read the stuff here, you basically read what it was before.

In my first run through of Human Revolution, I accidentally took the elevator down to the final stage before meeting Sarif or Taggart. It was pure accident, really. So when I had my choices to make, I could only choose either Darrow or boom. I chose Darrow. (Can't bear to let Adam and everyone on board die.)

It was only on later runs in the game that I went to make a save at the final part and saw all the endings. I think Taggart's ending is my favorite. Would have chose it in the first run if I hadn't went down without meeting him first.

It would be nice to have more places to sneak around too. Could think it up later, or if you have any ideas, feel free to voice them out.

Air vents definitely :gasp: I love air vents so much :ryan:

Taggart's proposal is more or less how the game goes into Deus Ex. I probably said this before in the last thread, but anyone who didn't read that can hear it now :-)monster:): No one but UNATCO soldiers have any sort of augmentation whatsoever aside from Walton Simons and Bob Page. Anna Navarre and Gunther Hermann are what appears to be left of biotech augmentation. If anyone else had any sort of augmentations, they were probably killed off by the Gray Death,
a man made virus by VersaLife (a subsidiary to Page Industries) who also manufactured the neuropozyne for biotech augmented people (crazy, right? :gasp:).
More later because I have to get moving.

Ah, so that's what it is. The second time I played through, I ignored what they were talking about
and killed them. It's the only time in the game they can be killed, and without any repercussions anyway ;D

Hm, that new detail makes things a bit trickier. Unless we're assuming the virus has not been created at the point of the role play? Or unless Gray Death is setting in, but not seriously yet?

Hm....

I can't remember how long the gray death had been around since the beginning of Deus Ex, but I don't think it had been for long. So probably the late 40's. People died from it a lot because the rich got the ambrosia vaccine first before the poor. Who you see roaming around Battery Park living in huge box houses.

Huh.... so that means....what exactly? Im still on my first playthrough of HR (i blame Dead Island for that), so where does that leave us with augmentation?

HR is when biotech augmentation to everyone is big. In the original DX, only soldiers and the like have any sort of augmentation, and they've moved on to nanotech augmentations. Ifffff that's what you're asking :P

Ya... cuz you made it sound like ALL biotech Aug people were killed off by then. Are they?

Not killed off, but the demand for it probably declined and you only see 2 in the original. And 15 years have passes so anything could've happened. Unlike in HR, they aren't advertising them to people and they're not open to the public like biotech augs were.

Lol! This, somehow, conveniently ties up with the idea of all characters in this role play having to have corporate or government affiliations - or triad links.

No problem! There's always a next time, and it does appear this role play is going slow too..
