Sword of Legend?

I just defeated gilgamesh and he dropped a "Sword of Legend".
the sword looks pretty cool, It's stuck in the ground kind of like King Arthur's Excalibur.
Is there a way to obtain this sword?
Is this sword a part of a side quest?

No, you leave and he comes back for it, your reward is masume(sp?) from monteblanc

yeah, there really isn't much more to do than that. And its the Masamune that you get from the hunt. I know what you're talking about though, I really wanted that sucker as a weapon....and was really sad to find out that you couldn't take it.

That really sucks the big one. I was hoping that it was part of a side quest where you could obtain the sword.

Gilgamesh's swords are all tributes to past Square-Enix great swords.

The Sword of Legend is a replica of the Swords of Legend from
Dragon Warrior I-III.

If you've played other FF games, you may recognize some of the others he whips out during the two fights, too.

yeah, he has Squall's GunBlade and Tidus' gift from Wakka, the Brotherhood. There are some more from FFV and FFXII but those are the most memorable ones to me

I saw a video of someone who solo'd it with Ashe at level 60. Troy for everyone around 45, I guess.

Also the Sword of Legend looks almost very similar to the WyrmHero Blade that you get after turning in the 3 badges. It's a pretty humorous scene I think where he sneaks back in to pick it up after you attempt to leave the area.
