Director Hajime Tabata reflected about the development of The 3rd Birthday in a creator’s blog post. Three years after the original announcement and eleven years after Parasite Eve 2, The 3rd Birthday is finally out in Japan. Tabata thanked fans for waiting so long for the game.

When the project started Tetsuya Nomura gave him three keywords: Aya Brea, Overdive, and Twisted. Yoshinori Kitase, producer, gave Tabata a development team and said, "make a game connected to the next title." With those directions, Tabata aimed at creating the best gun shooting game for PSP. Everyone on the development team exhausted all of their energy making the game. He hopes ten years later people will still have memories of The 3rd Birthday.

Tabata closed by saying, "If the 3rd [Birthday] rises to popularity we’ll make the 4th."

STOP THINKING ABOUT SEQUELS. Goodness, enough already! Think about the games you are working on!!! At least let the game come out before you announce your thoughts.

/end rant

This is Square Enix. All they do is think of sequels, prequels, sidestories and generally as much ways to milk a franchise as they can. :monster:

There will most likely be a fourth one. With the publicity this game has been having and all the fanboy-pleasing costumes that Aya will have, I can see it selling really well in Japan and elsewhere if advertised enough. They said something similiar back with a possible FFXIII-2, but a fourth Parasite Eve game would make more sense of an action than a FFXIII-2.

Yes I like this idea. They did say the same about Final Fantasy XIII though but the 3rd birthday will succeed. Just please Square enix if you are going to make a 4th birthday or whatever please make it on ps3/360 :hmph:! Or there will be blood.

I'm not surprised. Thats Square Enix for ya :monster: they'll do whatever it takes to pocket out some more money into their wallets. I mean, I won't complain as long as the 4th is worth what says it is. :mokken:

I mean, if it works for the it works for them. The 3rd Birthday seems pretty popular itself so, i'm pretty sure if they decide to make a 4th, it'll do fine selling wise.

:ffs:

I don't know why people bother reporting on this statement. IT'S THE SAME THING EVERY TIME. Every game, someone on staff mentions something about extending the game in a sequel or something. 3rd Birthday isn't any different.

Tobata: "We're greedy bastards who'll try and cash on every drop of franchise and suck it dry if it's bringing even 1 penny of income.
Did... did I just said that out loud to reporters... I mean, uh, If The 3rd Birthday Is Popular We’ll Make "The 4th"

I'd love to know what they mean by "popular", because Square Enix games always sell ridiculously large amounts, for reasons I'm unable to fathom, especially considering their latest efforts at making games. So...what sort of standards are they using here to decide whether they'll make another one or not? 2 million units sold worldwide before they consider it, or something?

I've got three more keywords for Square Enix: Stop. Fucking. Around.

SE had a very bad fiscal year for income...they lost money big time..I guess the downfall of FF13 has a lot to do with that and the failed FF14 online..

They NEED money or there wont be any future FF titles..so I say if their games are succesfull ofcourse they should make sequals.

Its on them how good those sequals will be though...

Aya Brea's shower scene (not explicit)
Kudos :britt:
