I always wondered this one. To you, what is the meaning of life

I've always thought its to be with "the one" and spend every waking moment with them. Love basically :P

To solve as many math problems as much as possible, and learn it as much as I can and draw.

Yes, that's the only meaning of life that will satisfy me, as simple and strange as it may sound.

I firmly believe that there is no meaning of life. Life is life. We breathe, we eat, we drink, we sleep, we do all of these things because we have to. It's written in our DNA. Call it "survival instinct", call it what you will, it all boils down to the same principle: survival.

We are here simply to survive. To ensure that the human race lives on by doing our part. I may make it sound glorious, but it's not. If you're thinking I'm saying this because I believe it is what God meant for us to do then you're wrong. I believe not in such nonsense.

The meaning of life is not real, it is a self-defence mechanism for people who need hope. People who want to feel like they are a part of something much largerer than only what our 5 senses allow us to comprehend. I've got news for these people: there is nothing beyond the veil of uncertainty. Only lies.

In essence: We are animals, we have no higher purpose. And we are no different from any other animal that inhabits this planet.

Again, this is what I firmly believe. I may have overdone it a bit but I think I've put forth a decent account of my views on this subject. :monster:

I agree with Casanova that when you are born there is inherently no meaning to living, there is no purpose, but I do not believe life is meaningless, meaning expendable. If you want your life to have a meaning, simply think of one and that is it. There is no preset path for you necessarily.

The meaning of life is 42.

But on a more serious note, I don't think life has a point or meaning, what we do impacts on other people, but everyone dies, so any impact we have is only temporary.
But life is short and what is the point of living if you aren't having fun, I guess that makes me a hedonist.
But there is no and never will be a meaning of life, not one that will be agreed on by many people anyway.

the meaning of life is...I'm not sure really, i haven't found what im here to do lol but i imagine it has something to do with either babes, their boyfriends or all of the FF games

The meaning of life for me is to became the best EVER!

Seriously now,I think my purpose is to have a joyful life.Don't know how I'll manage to achieve that. But talking about love, just bugs me.I mean it's good to experience love but that's was never the purpose of a human it was just a flavor.

Of course, life is what you make of it. If you want to be a good person and you try hard enough then you will succeed, you get out of life exactly what you put in to it.

I don't believe there is a preset path for anyone either. No fate, no destiny, no soul mate. All of this you make for yourself.

The meaning of life...

Life is what you make it. God or nay, what you become and make of the world is up to your own actions, circumstances, and chance.
The only value in life is what individuals and society attach to it.
One person might believe that their life is really crappy, and attach a minimal value to their own and others' lives, whereas another person might think that life is great, even if their circumstances are mediocre.
You might be a really successful person, and yet see people as expendable.

I understand how valuable life can be, but I care more about my own life and those around me than I do others. I am generally concerned with society, but I think that the life of one average person is trivial. In that respect, my life is trivial at the moment, but I aim to attach external value to it soon enough. I'd like to think that there is a God, so that the lives of average people were not in vain. Although even the heroes and anti-heroes of history die when they are completely forgotten by both humans and records.

I actually don't care if life has a meaning I just want to be the best >.> selfish, eh?
I want to experience it, however I think Love is not a meaning it's just one those experiences, even happiness.

Life is just life - you make your choices, live it, then you die. It's up to the individual to create their own 'meaning', as it were, and how to live out their lives.

My "meaning" to life is to gain a steady, suitable income for the coming few years, use those funds to get into an appropriate University [hopefully in Canada or America... undecided] and gain desired qualifications - thereafter gaining work which pertains to my qualifications.

Meanings apply to the person, and mine will keep changing until I set myself a new goal, a new meaning. Obviously the primary meaning would revolve around my choice of work, but there's nothing stopping me from having a second or even tertiary meaning.

I don't believe in a set meaning for every person on the planet. It's quite depressing to think about life in that way.

The majority of my opinion lies more towards Cassie's views - I don't believe that there is any higher purpose for our existence. We're here and we'll just continue to be here until we're not. :wacky:

However, more positively, I think that each and every life has its own meaning. For less intelligent organisms, it might simply to be to provide safety for its young and ensure the continuity of its family line. For more intelligent organisms, like ourselves, I think it comes down to dreams. xD That sounds a bit cheesey but, at the end of the day, you give your own life meaning. If I do follow on into working in forensics, I could say that I've dedicated my life to bringing criminal's to justice - the meaning for my existence is to aid in that battle. Another's meaning might be to revolutionise music and provide entertainment for all.

Aye, I'm happy with that wee paragraph. The meaning of your life comes down to your talents, dreams and ambition.

Meaning of life? God's got some sort of plan for me, no idea what exactly it's going to be, but I'm quite worried about it. But it's not exactly a surprise, as I worry quite frequently.

Have fun and be happy. Get where I want, do what I want, and live the good life.

In the end that's what any person will strive for, and there's no more fulfilling goal. You can donate to the poor, but poverty and hunger has always existed. I'm not saying donating is a bad thing, but don't put yourself into poverty.

There is no such thing as the meaning of life

some believe that it is to spend every waking moment with that person, the one that makes you complete and whole, never to let go for a second believing that they would disappear for all eternity if you did

others believe that the only reason that we live, is to gain experiences for the ultimate liberation... death, after all the things that don't kill you will only delay the inevitable

some people believe that bioglically that we are just to reproduce, over populate and then destroy

there are those that also take the easy way out, and end this thing as a joke by saying look it up in a dictionary

but in truth, there is no such thing as the meaning of life, a question designed to lead you in circles, for all eternity only to disappear into darkness to realise how poinltess you life was searching for an answer to a question that doesn't really exist.

There are to many answers to that question, what is the meaning of life in your eyes could very well be destruction in anothers, human's indviduatlity prevents such an answer to be expressed. However, the question that you really should be asking is...

What is the meaning of life to me?

If you were to ask that question, you aren't looking for the answer, but rather you are looking for the individaul answer, which for me would be... to find peace, and forever hold it

Of course you can just use the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy and say the answer is 7... don't really get it myself

but...

the biggest irony of life, is that none of live through it...

It's 42 not 7.

Anyway, I'm not really one for believing there is a meaning of life...I like to live life day by day and just deal with everything as it comes, whatever happens, happens for a reason in my opinion, a lot of the time things happen that aren't planned which makes life unexpected and fun. I couldn't imagine having a 'meaning' of life to be all that fun since once you've hit that goal (depending what it is) what happens afterwards?

However, IF there was a meaning I'd probably lean towards Maslow's Hierarchy which can basically sum up the purpose of all animals....

- We all need the basics to survive; food, water and shelter.
- We all want security; which is why people and animals get together.
- We all want to feel as if we are loved either by friends or family.
- We all want to feel good about ourselves.
- We all want to fill the potential that we know we have.

Basically, in my opinion IF I thought there was a meaning in life I would put all animals/humans under those 5 categories...again, just an opinion.

It is? my bad

to begin with i like your view towards life a great deal,

if you haven't realised you just through away the whole concept of hope in life, hope isn't necessary.

If something is going to happen, it will happen, if it doesn't, it doesn't there is no use for hope. Hope is just something that blinds you, clouds your senses, in order to look towards something to blind us from our own reality, something pointless is something we put our will in... how sad

humans are such sad creatures

you should walk on your own feet, realise what is there and what isn't, forget about hopes and dreams, and rather face the facts and make an effort to do something, rather then just sit by and hope for a better future

...I think three of those items don't exactly fall within the set of all the things that define "purpose" for me. If those things are genetic, then my genes are pretty screwed.

I'm fine pursuing mathematics alone, and I'm not doing it for other people either. I make no claims about my own potential; I am as I am.

EDIT: Hilarious. I just noticed that I'm sitting all alone inside an empty computer lab, and I'm not even the least bit bothered that there are no people around.

Yeah i agree to some extent with everyone, like in the end, you need to survive, keep the population going, but beyond that, there has to be a meaning to WHY you are surviving. What do you live for

Like mine is to not give a shit about myself, look out for other, sharing that survival with that one person and protecting them and also be shit hawt on piano

Everyone has different idea on this area of topic but in the end it what means most important to them theirselves. Not one human is the same as another.
