The secondary way to get great items. What did you guys think of the bazaar system?

As much as I liked how it spouted out rare and often powerful items, it doesn't really fit the idea of a bazaar, with a plethora of goods available. Also, it was incredibly steep priced to be able to buy something cheaper. xD
That's just me though.

Anywho, discuss your likes and dislikes about this and would you like to see this same system, be it having the same name or no, on another FF game.

I dont like the Bazaar system very much <.<

True, you can great things there (like Bubble or the Cat-Ear Hood), but it's a pain to have to sell all your loot to the bazaar. I never even found out till a few days ago that to get certain stuff there you had to sell your loot to the bazaar itself, and not any old merchant.

I do like the idea of the higher in Clan rank you progress the more stuff you can buy. It's kind of cruel, but it seems pretty logical and it's a good incentive to do the hunts (which i'm actually doing now, i'm only a Ward of Justice though).

Are you serious?! :O
I've been doing this all wrong then, as I've been selling everything to any merchant I come across. Are you majorly screwed if you don't though? How rare are the items you can get in the bazaar anyway?

Yep. I stumbled across that while reading the brady games guide, i let out a big "fuck!" when i read that.

The good bazaar items are pretty rare. They're usually either exclusive to the bazaar, or they're only sold in maybe one or two other places. The "Bazaar" option is dependant on how much crap you've sold at the bazaar. For instance, the Nihopalaoa (reverses item effects, so use a remedy on an enemy and it'll inflict it with every status the remedy cures) is dependent on Clan rank, whereas arrows and bullets are dependent on loot you sell.

So yeah, if you feel like gaining LP, you might as well go to earlier areas of the game and collect items from enemies.

Also, alot of items required to make special equipment are only dropped from Hunt monsters or optional bosses.

Meh, I thought it was interesting. You kinda have to use it in order to get some of the better weapons and armor in the game… Other than that, nothing really special, in my opinion.

Whaaaaat, I remember reading somewhere that you could put your own items in the bazaar or something like that. I just never figured out who to talk to to do that. WHOOOO?!

You talkin about recipes?

Actually Warb, i think i told you wrong, i keep reading that you can sell loot anywhere. However, loot can be sold for more in various locations depending on how rare the item is to that area.

Another thing you should watch for is wasting your items. Take for instance you sell enough kinds of loot to make one item appear, we'll call it MOOB. The recipe to make MOOB would go like so:

Random fur x1
Random crystal x2

The bazaar keeps track of how many items you've sold, and resets the counter every time you buy something, so once MOOB is created and you buy it, that resets the counter. So if you had sold 3 random crystals instead of 2, the last crystal would be wasted.

However, you can opt to not buy MOOB, then sell a couple more things that make NOOB, like so:

Random fur x1
Random crystal x2
Chocobo gizzard: x1

Now, the additon of the Chocobo gizzard will result in NOOB being made as well, so now you can buy both MOOB and NOOB and save items.

I know, doesnt make sense, but thats XII for ya -__-

I'm quite sure that the items you sell to any merchant will count toward the item required for rare items in the bazaar.

I liked the bazaar system ^_^ it was something fresh, new and different. I liked having to sell items for better ones - it reminded me of how a RL merchants would work in like the 1500s.

Maybe. I think I remember seeing something that said you can create items and stick them in the bazaar to sell. I might be wrong, but if I'm not, how do you do that?

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of recipes. You sell enough types of loot and they can make something for you. Of course, you could always buy it and sell it back but that would be kinda dumb.

Ahh ok, thanks for clearing that up. That is a little let down...would be kinda cool if they upgraded the Bazaar in the International Zodiac Jobs version. Don't really know how they would upgrade it, but somehow they find something and throw it in there for a surprise.

What would have been really nice is if they'd went with a traditional synthesis job, because the bazaar is overly complex, involves way to much redundancy in killing monsters just to get an item, and overall, it's just plain bad. Like, some items in the bazaar are cheaper than a regular shop, while others are more expensive. It's just inconsistent.

Really? I don't think so. ^_^
The Bazaar was a lot of fun, it added a bit of fun to the whole earning money/and prizes/packets deals.
Maybe adding recipes in would make it even better, who knows?
The bestiary gives clues too for special items.
To help you get these monographs, you have to speak to certain merchants and do other things (can't remember what).

The only real problem I had with it, was the fact it took ages to actually be able to get anything at all from there. Of decent variety, anyway. I've only just noticed I can buy the Bubble Belt too. :monster:

Otherwise, I like it. I unfortunately got most of what it offered late on, so I didn't wholly benefit from the thing... except from the Monographs. Hugely expensive, but nothing a spot of training wouldn't resolve. I enjoyed searching for specific items too.

Man, i dont think there's ever been a FF since VIII where people have been so divided about it.

I think the bazaar system is extremely tedious, needlessly complicated, too expensive, and just plain stupid. I do actually like the Buy section of the bazaar, though. I like the idea of the higher your clan rank goes, the more stuff is available. I think they should have just used that for the entire bazaar.

Needlessly complicated? Not terribly so. If things get too tough, never did for me, I'm sure you can always use a guide. ^_^

It was good since it felt more like an RPG where you have to find materials to gain access to other items. The gain higher ranks to unlock more items was decent enough but there wasn't enough item to by and most of them could be made in the bazzar before being bought.

Little question: Are there any real important items that I shouldn't sell in the bazaar? I know I've already done it once, which fortunately was reversible, with depleting my stocks of teleport stones...

But anyways, I love the bazaar system. I agree with VR that it was great to receive better items through gaining clan ranks. I don't agree that it's overly complicated, though it would've been nice if they gave us the recipes during the game (they don't, right?).

Well the great serpent skin is one time only which nets you an extra bonus in a quest (But is it crap anyway).
