As I finally managed to beat Omega Weapon last night, I had done everything so decided should bloody well just finish the game (something I always look forward too).

As the cinematic sequence unfolds, after the intital bit where
Squall wanders into the past to see ultimacia giving her powers to Edea,
I forgot how lovely the ending was.

It got me thinking about the other FF endings, all of which is usually good, but I think that VIII is the best.

I fell in love with IX's ending during my last playthrough (who wouldn't like the fairytale ending) and it's the same with VIII, but since its in more of a modern setting it is easier to draw parallels with. There was also that hint of uncertainty with VIII and you don't find out right til the end. The music was beautifully written and eyes on me is a great song that fits perfectly with the scenes shown.

Just wondered if anyone else agrees or thinks that other endings are better?

I think this'l be better over in General Discussion

Could of SWORN there was already a thread on this topic over there, I'm either being blind or I imagined it so like if anyone notices it...:wacky:

After playing VII, it was so nice to see an ending wrapped up like that, I was shaking the control pad in frustration at VII wondering what actually did happen, although, I also think that being left wondering like that was one of the things that made it so great

VIII did have a fantastic ending though, it was so sweet, and fun at teh same time, the music just capped it all off too - IX'x was also BRILLIANT, even more so when I discovered it was Vivi narrating, but I think VIII's was better

X was good aswel, I howlllled my way through that, Auron WELL deserved an FMV at the end though -_-

XII's I think was just....too short, and I was like, ok, is that it? Someone told me it was the best game ending ever so I sat eagerly watching and though....wat?

I liekd IV's too, Rydia and Edge are well getting it on :ryan:

I dont think I can really decide tbqh, I liek them all fo rdifferent reasons

I knwo which was the worst though, FFI, what a big fat dissapointment -_-

And Im gettign de-ja-vu, Im CONVINCED Ive m issed a dup therad....BAH

Anyhow, Thread Moved

My personal favorite was FFX's ending.

at the very begining of the sequence you see
the people of spira, looking up in awe at the Sin just kind of floating there
and then it keeps going and then finally sin bursts, launching a combonation of pyreflies and a large cloud of some sort into the air.

and then there is the scene where Yuna tries to hug Tidus but passes through the poor guy, and then lands on the floor, which she does fairly heavily, looked like it hurt. and then she turns away from him and tells him 'i love you' and then he stride up behind her and wrapps his arms around her body, they stand, embracing each other for a few moments and then Tidus runs up to the edge of the ship and throws himself off, reuniting him with Braska, Sir Auron and at long last. . . his father.

and then of course the whole thing ends with a high 5. . . .AWESUM

Personally I didn't like VIII's ending. It was an acid trip.

My picks for best ending would be:

1. FFX: It's just so bitterswet and emotional. Beautifully constructucted and brings excellent closure to the story.

2. FFXII: Very epic and proof of why Balthier is one the best characters in the game. It was very subdued but very powerful.

3. FFVII: It leaves a lot to the imagination, yet it's not confusing. I think it was like a metaphor based on the theme of the game, in the sense that humanity wasn't destroyed and managed to find itself and live in harmony with the planet.

The other endings were good but they didn't stick with me the way these three did.

Well, I've only played 7 on, so I have no idea of the endings from anything before that. But I'll give my analysis.

FFX - I think this one had the biggest impact of any, at least to me anyways. I guess I was sort of oblivious the first time I went through, or I was out of the storyline for so long (doing all the sidequests) that it completely caught me by surprise. The unexpected hit me like a shovel, and I'll admit that my *cough* eye allergies *cough* really started to have an effect (damn pollen!). I really felt like it was so unsettling, even though it was so packed with emotion. Luckily FFX-2's Perfect Ending sort of cushions the blow (I lumped these 2 together even though they're 2 distinctly different games).

FFIX - I only actually beat this game once, due to the boredom it bestows on me, but I thought it was very good. It left no loose ends, you got to see what happened to everyone after the final battle. Personally I thought the way the play at the end was especially powerful, I was waiting for it and it still caught me by surprise.

FFXII - Like FFIX, you get to see what exactly happened with everyone after the final battle. I just like how the new ruler of Archades had a special Judge Magister. It almost seems like treason, yet it's totally logical. It was a cool ending though, for sure.

FFVII - I like the anticipation of what's gonna happen, was it done quickly enough or not? Then to see how it panned out was very refreshing.

FFVIII - My favorite FF game of all time, but the ending has a time gap that I'm not crazy about. Maybe because I've beaten it so many times, I question too many things and shouldn't really care about them? The way the time worlds come together is crazy and confusing, but I don't have a problem with that. It's morely that you see all this time warping happen, but then the end credits are rolling and you have the video camera deal. So what happened between the credits and the time warp? Did everyone land in the same place, were they scattered for an extended amount of time? Yeah, I guess I overanalyzed it, but it's still an awesome ending.

To tell you the truth, the endings of Final Fantasy I to V weren't that great, I guess it is just the shoddy graphics which became a real turn off.

The ending of VII was really rewarding after the (multiple) gruelling battles I had to go through. Loving the Red XIII ending.. (wait, was that at the end of VII? Or at the beginning, like Advent Children?)

My favourite game, VIII, had quite a good ending, liked the whole 'woot I saved the whole world from a crazy bitch's time compression' feeling while watching the Squall <3 Rinoa reunion (and by reunion I really mean sexual hug.) BTW, have you noticed that this is the first time Squall has smiled?

By far, the best ending was X. Real emotional, great ending to a fantabulous journey. Loved the High-Five at the end, although the episode of 'waking up in water and swimming' confused me a little...

I have to mention this: Final Fantasy X-2's ending was the funniest out of all of them. It sucked crap, but listening to Yuna shout "Brother Faster, Brother Higher!" really brightened up the overall inferior game.

Final Fantasy XII's ending wasn't too bad, but the 'back at Dalmasca' part was kinda boring. I liked the Fortress blowing up scene.

Totally got the wrong idea with FF VII's ending. Thought that everybody died expect Nanaki and he took care of the planet for many generations. Which was okay until Advent Children came out and then thought that the ending wasn't too clear on somethings.
Though do love the bit with Cid and the breaking airship loosing his cig. Classic.

Final Fantasy VIII Ending was worth the effort. Thought that it was very cool how Eyes on me played through the second half of the ending movie AMV and how you could see the party afterward while the credits where rolling.

IX's ending started off great and unexpected until the random many Vivi scene happened. It was just plain strange. But the repeat of the opening play and Zidane's surprise was just sweet. Though had a feeling it was Zidane hiding because paused the screen and saw his gloves. Hehe wasn't fooled here ! =p

Think that Final Fantasy X's ending was great just because of the hugging bit with Yuna and Tidus. And Tidus giving Jecht a High-Five. Yuna's speech was thought- provoking.

Final Fantasy 12's ending cheated and saw it on BlueLaguna. Net. And thought that it suited the game's style and it was simple but nice. Though understand why how some people were disappointed with the ending.

Seen IV's Ending also on the internet. Couldn't play the game further due to a crappy and broken computer. But really felt sorry for Kain Highwind.

Best ending would have to be Final Fantasy VIII's. Because it's happy and cheerful and the main couple stay together and there is no strange clones attacking the scene. >__>

FFIX has a very moving ending and I'm very fond of it but my absolute favourite is the ending to FFVIII. It's the thing that seals the game as my personal favourite in the series. Someone here described it as an 'acid trip' and in a way they're right - only I think that's a good thing. At times things get pretty crazy and I enjoy that sort of thing. It's quite cool how most of it is dialogue free, certainly an interesting way of doing it. The FMV graphics still look fantastic, and it's complemented by the Ending Theme, with Eyes on Me in there, and the moment it segues into the traditional FF Theme and the credits start rolling, it still makes me smile to see and hear it. And it just has so many memorable moments -
Laguna at Raine's grave and remembering when he proposed to her, the camcorder sequence (Irvine and Zell on top form there), the footage cutting out just as you see Rinoa beckoning to someone, and of course right at the end the payoff you've been waiting for as you see Squall smile and embrace Rinoa
.

I just found it an enormously satisfying end to the game. FFIX as said also has a terrific ending and FFX deserves a mention too for having one or two rather touching moments (those who have seen it will probably know which ones I mean).

Do we really need to ask such an obvious question?

Ok that was just kidding.

VII has a simple and cool ending, especially considering technology during that time, the graphics were pretty good but because it's so opened for interpretation it's not that memorable as well. Amazing graphics from latter installments didn't help their case that much.

VIII has a great ending IMO. Played out beautifully and Eyes on Me can only make it even better. Love the light-hearted moments(Seifer) and also touching ones(Laguna). The really last part is really subtle and still sparks off debates about Squall's fate.

IX didn't leave a great impression in me so I'm going to pass that, ditto with XII.

So obviously my favourite is X's ending. Everything, absolutely everything about it amount to perfection. From the poignant Ending theme, to the superb graphics, to the amazing storyling(and twist), everything clicked and Square really gave us the epic ending of all times in the FF series. That whole is for me, a whole lot of love.

I would say FFVII had the best ending. I mean, it left a lot for you to actually think about. It actually wasn't confusing, either. It even made me wonder what happened in those 500 years after you see Red XIII (or Nanaki) running with what seemed to be his kids. Then you see a ruined Midgar.........awesome indeed.

FFVIII. Sooo many touching moments, most notably
Laguna's proposal. [/end spoiler] All of the endings are sterling to be honest, even the early ones. Kain's ending in FFIV is truly noteworthy, and the ending in FFI, though primitive, as a poetic quality to it:
you did all of that work, and in the end nobody will know. [/end spoiler]

I would have to go kind of old school here because I think III had the best ending. Maybe I just felt that way because there was such a plethera of characters, side quests and different events unfolding all at once through out the story, until finally, it all reaches a head in the end. I

won't go into detail because i'm not sure of how to black out my posts but I just feel that game's ending coupled with the most beautiful musical score of the 90's makes it the best ending. (sorry for the double post)

FFX's ending for me. :-) It rounded the game off perfectly. It was just everything you wanted it to be, haha. Love suffering but you just saved the goddamn world! I don't know, I felt a sense of accomplishment after I watched the ending events. I didn't find it very sad, but it is quite emotional. :-) I personally love Yuna's speech, I think again, it just rounded off the game perfectly. Great ending to a great game!

XII was just... empty. As I finished the game and watched the ending events, I was all "Hmm I kinda don't want FFXII to end" (for reasons: unknown -_-) but it wasn't all that special. o___O

I think FFIX's ending. I liked how it was so bittersweet. I was happy that Garnet and Zidane were finally reunited, but upset that Vivi had died - but, then again, it was uplifting when you realized just how much he enjoyed his time traveling with Zidane and co. It was a nice way to wrap up the whole story.

The ending of FFVIII just felt empty to me. I was kinda disappointed, as the story had so much more potential.
