The Eternal Relics

Eons ago, the Relics were created. It is not known who created the Relics, or even why, but it is known that the Relics hold immeasurable power. Countless wars were fought for the control of the Relics. After centuries of war. The Relics were taken by the one country that was truly good. Using their ancient Magic, they sealed the Relics. But something went wrong, the Relics now chose their masters. Immediately after being sealed, they disappeared. It was thought that they were gone for good.

But it was not to be, the Relics reappeared, in the hands of five powerful and immortal warriors, it was thought that they would bring the end of the world. But of course, like most rumours, this was not true. At the time of their reappearance, the country they belonged to was rife with war. Using the power of the Relics, they fought for their country and defeated their enemies easily. They were now heroes of their country

The Relic owners, heroes of the modern world, were granted immortality but with it, they were given a sworn duty to protect their country from evil. They fought in many wars for their Country but in the final war, there was a new threat. The Shadow Relics, copies of the true Relics filled with evil.

A War ensued, lasting over 10 years. In the final battle, the warriors finally won, but it came at a price. The Leader of the warriors, the owner of the Ultimate Relic, sacrificed himself in order to defeat the owner of the Shadow Ultimate Relic. The Ultimate Relic disappeared, waiting to be discovered by it's new owner, the remaining warriors decided to scatter to their respective homes, lost without a leader.

Barely a year after this battle, a newly born baby with the name Leon was found outside an orphanage in the little woodland town of Nilem in a basket clutching a pendant. 17 Years after this night, War has broken once more. But the Warriors are nowhere to be found. This is where our story begins...

~~~~~~~
Warm, crisp air filled Rene's lung as he breathed in the morning air. He had been awake since the early hours, preparing for the task he had arranged for himself the previous week. He sat on the ground on the outskirts of the small village of Nilem and smirked as he heard the clock tower toll seven A.M. Rene pushed himself up from the cold but dry ground and brushed himself quickly, getting rid of the dirt that had somehow accumulated on his black, baggy pants. He brushed his dark hair out of his eyes and quickly put on his jacket as he walked into the village to grab some quick breakfast. He yawned widely as he walked through the almost empty street towards the local diner. His bright blue eyes surveyed the area as he sat down on the wooden bench and waited for the owner to serve him. Whilst he waited he lifted the Pendent from around his neck and stared deeply into it's light blue crystal.
Several people greeted Rene as they passed by him, he greeted them back, wondering where the heck the owner was and then smirked as he remembered what the owner had told him several days ago. "You still stickin' to that "You can get your own arse to the counter" rule Andy?" Rene shouted from his table, smirking slightly. He heard several bangs as Andy, the diner owner, opened the kitchen door and stormed towards Rene. "Guess that's a no eh." Rene smirked at him and quickly grabbed the menu, despite knowing what he wanted. Andy glared at him as Rene looked over the menu for several minutes.
"Hurry the hell up kid!" Andy growned in his gruff voice, he was wearing a white shirt that barely fitted over his large stomach and greasy trousers underneath a stained, used to be white, apron. "I told you we don't come to the goddamned tables."
"I'll have the usual thanks!" Rene smirked, ignoring what he said. "And go easy on the bacon, you kinda burnt it last time." Andy glared as he wrote down on a small notepad what Rene's "usual" was and then looked at Rene softly.
"You meetin' Faith today?" He asked, he stuffed the notepad in a dirty pocket and rubbed his stubbly chin. Rene smirked at the man.
"Yeah, I'm gonna make her go climbin' with me!" Rene smirked at him. Andy shook his head in disbelief and walked off to make his food. Rene leaned back on his chair with his eyes closed as he waited for his food to be made. "Come on Faith, get cha arse in gear and hurry it up for once..." He opened his eyes slightly and looked up into the bright sun, he smiled slightly to himself. Rene suddenly felt a shock, his entire body shuddered as he snapped forwards and felt something electric through his body. "What the hell?" Rene murmured as the feeling passed, he looked quickly at the spot he felt the shock and noticed his Pendant underneath his shirt.
He hadn't realised that seconds ago, the Pendant was glowing soflty. Unknown to Rene, something, someone, is coming.
Deep blue eyes scanned the throng of people milling before them, one eybrow quirked as they finally rested on the object of today's task. They darted to the left, checking on the small boy anxiously waiting for her to complete the task she had promised, especially for him. He peered at the thief with large green eyes, offering her a small smile; one she returned, but with more enthusiasm. Realizing that standing there with a large grin on her face might draw attention, Claret shifted herself from leaning against the wall and moved fluidly into the crowd.
She reached out and tapped the target - a man of roughly thirty years - on the shoulder; or rather, middle of his back. He turned and she put on her most lost, confused expression. "I'm trying to find my way to the town center," she blinked her large eyes for effect. The man seemed more than a little surprised that a child had approached him. Claret smiled softly, waiting for him to reply.
As she had calculated, the target turned from her, pointing to the west. She had known this would happen, it nearly always did, and just like all the other times, Claret took this opportunity to pluck the man's wallet from his pocket with her swift fingers. She smiled sweetly in thanks as he turned back to her before making a show of skipping in the direction he had indicated.
The boy came up to her as she neared him and with a huge smile, Claret took his hand and placed the stolen wallet within it. The child took it gratefully, know that he would be able to eat for the next few days thanks to the flame-haired thief. Claret ruffled his hair, stopping dead as she felt a heavy hand come down roughly on her shoulder. Gulping audibly, she turned to face a rather angry man. She smiled unconvincingly.
"Steal my wallet, will you?" he growled, voice gruff.
"Run, Dean..." Claret hissed under her breath, trying to shrug the hand off her shoulder.
The man was not about the release the thief easily. "Tell him to get back here or else."
Claret's cheeks flared pink; a sure temper indication. "Take your hand off me."
"Not until you get that boy back here."
"Not a chance," she huffed, trying again in vain to release herself. "Fine! You want to be like that do you, ugly?" Her foot came up, landing with a thud between the man's legs. He dropped immediately and Claret slipped from his grasp. "Next time, pick on someone your own size!" She taunted him by blowing him a little kiss and throwing him a wink before turning on her heel and sprinting after the boy. Claret stopped after three steps, looking first to the left and then to the right. "... Which way shall I go?..." A groan behind her told her that the man was recovering. "Ugh... this way!" she ran to the left and down an alley way, putting as much distance between herself and her target as possible.
Faith's eyes snapped open. She felt weird today, almost as if she was viewing the world through new eyes. Upon hearing her godmother's demands to come downstairs and help her reach out for something that was above her height, she jumped out, got dressed, had a quick wash and hurried downstairs to find that her godmother, Patricia, had accidentally left her slicing knife on one of the high cupboards again. Faith sighed and shook her head. How many times was it that she'd done that this week?
"What are you going to do when I'm not here, Patricia?" she dared to ask. "You know that I'm probably going to leave the village when I'm eighteen ..."
"I know, but I should be fine," Patricia was shrugging her shoulders. "That was just one favour."
"One favour? Tricia, I've been doing it every morning for the past week!" She was slightly annoyed because it had been happening over and over again. Patricia needed her precious knife to help prepare the food at Andy's diner. "Besides, aren't you in work today?"
"No," Patricia shook her head. "But you should go see Andy, maybe just to check if Rene is there."
Faith felt herself sighing again. Patricia had this awkward, but interesting idea that Rene Skylar was her boyfriend. They'd been friends for many years now - and that idea was going down in the drain, it would bite the dust sooner rather than later. Flicking back a strand of black hair that was in her face, Faith bade farewell to her godmother and stepped out into the village, not realising what kind of day was going to come along ...
She walked out of her house and started skipping along the path in the village. Nihelm was a relatively averaged sized village in comparison to others. It was neither big nor small. Several people greeted her along the way, one even going so far as to say that an impatient Rene Skylar was waiting for her at Andy's diner. It was typical! They met there almost (if not every) morning. Faith would hardly ever have anything to eat from there - only, today was different. Because she'd overslept from having such a strange, peaceful night of sleep, Faith had no time to have breakfast with Patricia since she already had done so. This left her to have something to eat at Andy's.
Faith walked through the door and instantly spotted Rene - he was sitting in their usual table. She gave a small wave and sat down, grabbing a menu along the way.
"You know, I'm sorry for being so late," she murmured. "I had the weirdest night ever last night. I ACTUALLY managed to sleep without bolting out of bed ..."
As the sun rose, casting an eerie scarlet light across the small village, the door of the village's only inn opened with a screech like a bird, and a small foot stepped out, clathed in crystal black shoes.
The feet were followed by long, slender legs, clothed in the thick fabric of a jet black dress. Dust rose up from the ground as her feet touched it, but it oddly stayed away from her feet, almost as though it were being repelled by an invisible force.
Her pale face poked out from the door, her sharp nose sniffing the air with distaste as she brushed her dark black hair from her violet eyes.
She had come to stay in this pale, poor, ignorant little village because something was coming. Something she had long ago lost hope of. And if her being there for its return meant staying in this dingy old cesspit, then so be it. She, the loyal one, would be the first to greet her master.
And she would ascend as a result.
Lucius was still quite sleepy when he lifted his tent. He liked to be awake early the morning, often even before dawn. However, that day he couldn't admire the beauty of the new day: a long journey awaited. While packing up all of his belongings, Lucius was still trying to fully return to his senses. However, something told him that the day was going to be special: no insects had bothered his sleep, hunger wasn't overwhelming, and the day was quite warm and welcoming. After finally stuffing it all in the leather pouch he carried, he threw it over his back and set foot toward the next village in his route: Nilem. Incredibly enough, he found no beasts waiting for him in the remainder of the forest: maybe he had woken up too early or too late, or maybe he just did so at the precise moment.
It took around an hour and a half for Lucius to arrive at the village, for he was there when clock tower marked 7 AM. Considering that he hadn't had breakfast yet, he though it'd be wise to stop by and ask for a diner. Soon, he spotted a young man who seemed to be heading to one, so he took the chance to ask.
"Excuse me, sir. Do you know where can I find a diner near here?" asked Lucius politely.
"Ah, well there's Andy's over there... I can lead you there if you wish to... actually I'm heading there." said the young man with a cheery voice.
"Thank you sir. I sure could use the help." replied Lucius, he then proceeded to follow this man.
Out of a sudden, something about the air had changed. It seemed as if something was about to happen. Wasting no time, Lucius took out his staff, which was in reality the Relic of Intelligence. As he had expected, the staff seemed to be 'feeling' something. Is this... where the new Ultimate Relic Holder is? I remember this happening the first time... But, even if this is a small village, finding the boy would be no easy job... and then I'd have to set foot and find the others... who've probably been scattered all over the world... eighteen years is enough for anything...
All the while, Lucius had been staring at the sky. Realizing this, he hurriedly entered Andy's diner, before anyone got any wrong ideas. Once inside, he sat at a table ignoring everyone around. Now he'd have to focus on finding the new ultimate relic holder. As with the previous, the ultimate relic should have a pendant form... most likely blue... just like the last time... but I guess... I guess it'll have to wait: breakfast's first.
Soon enough, someone stood next to Lucius, waiting for his order.
"Well, well. What do we have here? I haven't seen you before, so you're probably not from this village, right? Anyways, what will you have for breakfast?" asked the man, slightly surprised at the fact that there were travelers in the village so early.
"You're right, I'm not from Nilem, but I've come here before... way before, to be honest. Anyways... erm... I guess I'll just have some fried eggs with bacon." replied Lucius with a slight smile on his face. As the man turned around and went to attend other clients, Lucius resumed his line of thoughts. Now... where was I? Ah right... First I need to find this boy with the pendant, and then reunite with the other relic holders... there's Jacel, Celeste and Claret... where to find each? Well, I'll probably know when the time comes...
As Felius was walking aimlessly, he got to a nice village. He sensed another Shadow Relic User in it and so he walked towards it. Someone else is gathered in here. Felius thought while walking towards the INN.
As he was getting closer, a woman opened the door. Her beauty was immesurable and without suprise, she was the user. Felius remembered her as the Intelligence relic user.
"Good day, Grace. Enjoying the day i see..." Felius spoke to Grace Darkness.
Rene's pendant hummed slightly, though he didn't notice, against his chest as he slowly ate the food Andy had bought him. He was watching with keen interest at the traveler who was at the counter but eventually lost interest. Rene leaned backwards on his chair and glanced at the clock. She's late, Rene thought to himself as he noted the time, if she ain't here soon I'm just gonna go. He instantly got rid of this thought, Faith would kill him if he ditched her.
"You know, I'm sorry for being so late," she murmured. "I had the weirdest night ever last night. I ACTUALLY managed to sleep without bolting out of bed ..."
Rene smirked as he looked at his friend and listened to her, he looked at her with his most annoyed face and glared, sadly the smirk he wore on his face negated his annoyance. "'Bout goddamn time, lemme just pay for my food and then we can go, go order something to eat on the go as well, I ain't waitin' ages."
Rene pushed away from the table and stood up, stretching his long legs as he did so, he took out his wallet and walked towards the counter and nodded at Andy.
"How much mate?" Rene asked, looking at the traveler he now stood next to. He was tall and very sage like, he had a staff.
"You know how much kid." Andy said, a rough edge in his voice. He had a plate in his hands which he put in front of the traveler. "That's 5 Gold Pieces mate." Rene smirked as he put his money down on the counter and turned away.
"See ya later Andy!" Rene shouted as he began to walk away.
Grace sat atop a hill, the spring of the mountain trickling below her. Her staff was lifted into the air by a pale hand and it glowed a dark purple, an ominous mist pouring forth from the staff's tip and wrapping around her as her mind reached out to the several million lives in the miles ahead.
There were Relic holders near. Her lifelong enemies. Her violet eyes shot open as the fragile lives of the flower surrounding her were extinguished in a burst of dark magic, and the stream was infested with darkness as her surprise and anger overwhelmed her for a moment. So many so close.
He had better come soon.
Jacel looked out to the dim sunset from a lone mountaintop, since the many years he had abandoned his years as a hero he had made a life as a self employed guard, aiding the defenseless villages when bandits or criminals are attacking it's people and military aid is impossible. Tonight was a dull night, work had been slow yet he always felt an evil presence somewhere, yet he did not know where. he could do little without knowing it's origin or purpose. For now he would have to wait until it made itself known.
Returning into the small hermit-style hut he lived within he closed the door before removing his armour and weapon and laid in bed, holding his sword against him as he slept. With his reputation he could not risk a petty cutthrot trying to make a name for themselves while he rested.
Lucius had viciously devoured his breakfast in barely a few minutes, and was now waiting for it to settle before paying for the food. Meanwhile, a girl around the age of the boy had arrived. They seemed to be quite related, as if they met there quite often. After a small discuassion, this boy who had been gazing at him stood up and header towards the counter.
"How much mate?"
Wasn't he...
"You know how much kid."
Oh... I see what was happening... kids don't change...
As soon as he left, Lucius decided to follow.
"So... how much is it for what I had?"
"Well, that's usually four gold pieces, but you're new here, so let's leave it at thre..." replied Andy, but was interrupted before he finished.
"Then it's five gold pieces, right." Lucius pressed the five coins in Andy's hand, and removed his before he could do anything.
"I appreciate this, but..."
"Don't worry, it's fine." interjected Lucius before Andy finished. He then let out a smile before exiting the diner. Now... where to start looking for him? All the while, he stared at the pair who had left moments ago, not realizing that it was he who had to be found.
An ill wind came from the northern mountains heralding the arrival of a terrible omen. Outside of the woodland town of Nilem, a terrible and malicious fog began to spread as wildfire through the forest, corroding and corrupting everything that it touched. It was the "Devil's Hand" as some would say, nevertheless; this sign was less unnatural and more human than we could come to believe. From the town and viewing into the entrance of the forest, once could see the shadowy image of a man clad in a black coat and chains, dragging sword through the muddy soil. The sword was embedded with one of the many abominations of nature known as a Shadow Relic, harbinger of sorrow and war. Death, anguish, pain, sorrow, lust, chaos, ruin, destruction, betrayal, loss, hatred, abandonment, massacre, enmity, kill...were just a few of the ideas which flowed through the mind of the host of this Shadow Relic.
Slowly
, the shadowy figure began to become more visible, and then some of his traits could be distinguished. The man was seen wearing
a long and ragged black threnchcoat with silver chains wrapped around his arms and hands and a white collar shirt underneath. He also worn a pair of black gloves with steel plates covering his knuckles. He also was seen wearing dark brown pants with a black leather belt, black ring boots, and black and white scarf around his neck. But above all else, the most impacting characteristic was his cold and empty stare. He was a man who had lost all his past and was left alone in this darkened age with an insane and torturing burden to bear.
Foolishly, a nearby villager sought to investigate the whereabouts of the "stranger" and decided to question his presence here.
Defiantly, the villager, (middle aged, wearing a simple white cloth shirt, brown pants and straw sandals) stood defiantly before the stranger asking about his origins. Withouth warning, the stranger reached the man's neck with his left and and cluthed it firmly. The man hopelessly sought to release himself from the mortal grip but to no avail.
"My name is ....or I was called....by this voice...how did it say I was named? Yes, Julius....now that you know my name....you must die..."
Quickly the man lunged his sword towards the villager's chest and pierced through it's heart, shattering flesh, bone and his lungs. Then the sword's cold steel sprouted from the villager's back, all covered in blood and torn tissue. The villager gasped and then fainted as death came for him. Julius soon pulled his sword out of the man's chest and then tossed the body to his left.
"Must...find....master..."
Julius said as he placed the sword in a sheath attached to his back and walked to Nilem...
The enmity emanated from this man could not be left unnoticed....
Well done, Claret.
"Shut up mind! I didn't ask your opinion so don't give me it!"
Claret ducked behind a wall, watching the rather angry target hobble past, his right hand tenderly cupping his groin. The thief resisted the urge to giggle, knowing it would give away her position. It was then that she felt a hand tugging at her sleeve. Turning her head just slightly, her deep sapphire eyes rested on Dean. Pale lips pulled into a smile as she slumped against the low wall, the boy flopping by beside her.
"I got you this," Dean offered her a bright, shiny red apple.
Claret took it with a grateful smile. She hadn't realised it up to that point, but she was hungry. A slender hand slid a dagger from her boot. With it, the girl sliced the apple and began to eat, a contented smile on her face. As she ate, Claret looked at the dagger in her. A wave of nostalgia washed over her, old memories of her past cascading through her mind. Three faces fought for dominance, each trying to gain the majority of her attention.
Dean got up, thanked the thief again and ran off to find his friends.
Now that he was gone, Claret allowed her mind to truly drift over her friends. How hard she tried to forget their faces, to spare herself the anguish that she knew would come from having departed from them. And yet, this sudden need to think about them again told Claret one thing. Something was going to happen.
Her mind settled first upon the mage, Lucius. He wasn't her favorite person in the world. After all, he was the oldest and wisest. She didn't so much hate him as resent him for his boundless knowledge. The next was Jacel, the ever strong warrior. Now, Jacel she liked less than Lucius. Claret almost chuckled. I swear he's overcompensating with that sword of his...
The final face was much softer, far more feminine. Celeste. Claret was fond of the skilled archer in more ways than one. True, it was because of the skills of the Priestess that Claret now wore a head guard, but that didn't take away from how much Claret cared for her. If only I could see her now... I bet she hasn't changed. I bet none of us have...
The thief sighed, rising to her feet and brushing off her backside.
"Oi, There you are!"
"Oh shit..." Claret sped off again, her relic aiding her hasty escape as she darted from alleyway to alleyway before finally making it to the outskirts of town. "Maybe I'll just stay out of town for a while..."
As it neared twilight, the sunset slowly falling below the tall mountains, Celeste stood with one sandaled foot resting on a rock, the other gently on the ground. Her bow was up, drawn back and tightly fixed with an arrow. She awaited, watching below down into the woods where three wolves circled their prey, menacing growls issuing deep from their throats.
It was a young fawn, probably no older than a few weeks at best. Her long, brown, golden-streaked flew out in waves behind her, along with the white sleeves of her haori. Some people would say the girl was oddly dressed, but this is what she always wore. Before becoming a Relic, Celeste had been a shinto miko, a shrine priestess. The young heroine sighed as the wolves made to pounce, and swiftly, surely Celeste released the arrow.
It soared downward, brilliant blue light surrounding it, the light trailing off in streams of magic, in it's wake. As always, the arrow marked it's target and hit the right side of the hungry creature's grey, furry stomach. It unleashed a howling yelp as the arrow pierced him, falling over to it's side. It writhed momentarily before falling to it's demise. The others had momentarily looked away from the young deer at the cause of the distraction, giving it time to slip away quickly.
Just as fleetingly as the small one ran, the petite miko dislodged two more arrows and finished off the wolves without any effort at all. Not only were they about to apprehend the fawn, but the home of her dear friend was close by and he was the only one she'd been able to find since they all went their separate ways. Celeste sighed, slinging the bow back over her slender shoulder, wondering about her friends, especially Claret. She laughed softly to herself, shaking her elegant head as she made her way towards her friend's small hut. Claret...what could be doing? Probably thieving as usual. The thought made her smile a bit. Brushing long strands of hair from her eyes, she approached her friend's door and knocked twice.
"You know, Jacel, I don't think you quite caught everything on your nightly guard. I just took down three wolves not too far from here. If that deer had gotten away, they might have wanted you instead!" she stated playfully through the closed door, her arms behind her back, in a cheeky yet innocent gesture.
OOC: Faith, when you make an edit, at least post it in the discussion page that you did so -__-
A dark distortion began to gather in front of Julius, twisting as a figure became discenable within its foggy, murky depths, the shadows within releasing their mistress, who was smiling pleasantly at Julius as she clutched the dark staff in her hand, causing the portal to seal.
"Julius," she greeted him. "It's been a long time. I trust that you sensed it too?" she asked, not waiting for his answer as she looked out over the man he had slaughtered. "Well. I needn't ask whether it's you or not. The winds of change are blowing Julius, and they carry us towards Nilem. Care for a companion?"
Lucius stopped gazing at the pair after they were a good distance from him. Instead, he now concentrated on what really mattered... but not for long. Some villagers were already panicking at the strange events in the forest. Knowing that it was what he had to do, Lucius headed back towards the forest, the very same forest he'd come from. In the mean, multiple villagers were already escaping, though Lucius knew not what would it be that they escaped from.
Once nearing the edge of the village, he was a strange but familiar figure... probably a shadow relic holder. And he was right, for he arrived at the precise moment to listen to what he needed to hear.
"My name is ....or I was called....by this voice...how did it say I was named? Yes, Julius....now that you know my name....you must die..."
So Julius it is... the Shadow strength relic holder... Without any delay, Julius had annihilated the villager, and after discarding the corpse resumed his way, looking for something else.
"Must...find....master..."
Great. This only means that such abomination of a person exists again. I guess that the best thing I can do is to try to stop Julius, but being the warrior he is, my magical features are unlikely to have effects on him... Well, I better delay him at the very least. This in his head, Lucius was about to conjure a set of vines to root Julius to the ground he stood in, but the appearance of yet another Shadow Relic holder interrupted him from doing this. Now it was the Shadow Intelligence Relic holder, better known as Grace.
"Julius, It's been a long time. I trust that you sensed it too?"
So it is Grace after all...
"Well. I needn't ask whether it's you or not. The winds of change are blowing Julius, and they carry us towards Nilem. Care for a companion?"
No way they're uniting before we do... well, I must do something...
Without thinking it twice, Lucius rooted Julius to the floor by conjuring vines around them. Not that they'd resist much, but at least enough to allow him to speak.
"Hey, it's been a while... eighteen years, I believe? So what are you up to now, Jul? Looking for something that isn't here anymore? What pity..." Lucius said these words knowing how temperamental this madman could get. However, he wasn't his opponent, but Jacel's. "Don't get too cocky though... you're not my opponent; she is." said Lucius, pointing towards Grace.
"Good Grace!" said Lucius, quite in a joking manner. "How have you been? How about a little 'friendly' battle, eh? And tell Jul to stay outta this... we don't want to get interrupted... do we?" Lucius knew that this would do: their pride was overwhelming, and thus Grace wouldn't allow Julius to interfere... however, being the madman he was, Lucius couldn't use common logic with Julius.
Julius made a rash stop as he glared at the blood dripping from his own stained hands. His shoulders shivered convulsively, almost as if he were out of control. In his eyes, in those dark empty eyes one could only see the vast emptyness of insanity. Suddenly, he heard the calling of a familiar voice, an old ally perhaps.
"Grace...I remember....vaguely...but yes I recognize that fragance.."
Julius slowly turned around as he came face to face with his former companion. Julius soon smirked as he inhaled a mouthful of the malicious fog lingering in the forest. He then exhaled, releasing the dark mist from his lungs almost feeling rejuvenated by it. The dark knight soon relaxed his shoulders and calmed himself.
Julius then sighted that another character had come into play, another relic holder yet this time he was one of the enemies. The man slowly rose his right arm and reached the hilt of his blade as his once dormant chains began to get a will of their own and then entangled themselves around the sword. He slowly unsheathed his blade, still tainted by the blood of the innocent. Coldly, he adressed to the adversary with slight animosity.
"You are something....yes something like me...but I do not need you....you are not what I am looking for....play your games....it matters not...watch out...for I will make you hear the cries of the innocent....the Lament of Nilem! Can you bear the burden of not stopping me? Hmm but you fear me, don't you? Yeah, I smell the stench of horror coming from your mouth....but worry not...for your name is one of the last in my list...bye...."
Julius soon gave out an inhuman howl which echoed through the darkened forest. The sadist soon turned his back on the man and plunged into the mist and the darkness began to coil its tentacles around the town of Nilem. With the arrival of the twilight and the descent of the Sun into the night, these omens began to foretell the arrival of insanity.
From the distance....his voice could be heard...
"I pray to the Gods that you won't be delayed Grace!! It would be a pity for me to take all the fun!!!"
The screams of the unfortunate began to echo through the damned night as Julius was swallowed by the mist...
"What the hell?!" Rene shouted in surprise as the sky above them filled with darkness. He instinctively grabbed Faith's as he pulled her under the shelter of the nearby stable. "The heck's goin' on?" Then the screaming started. Across the village, screams of painful deaths could be heard. They were getting steadily closer as soon they would be upon them. Rene had to act now, he turned to Faith and with his bravest smile, he looked at her.
"Faith," He said, smiling dimly. The screaming was getting and a shrill piercing seemed to be filling his ears as a powerful burning sensation sizzled underneath the normally cool pendant. "I want you to get outta here, I've gotta stay here and help just please, promise me you'll get Patricia and get the hell out of here until I come for you."
Faith could hardly contain the cheesy grin etched across her face when she saw Rene put on his most annoyed face. She got that one no matter if she was early, on time or late! And when he announced that he was going to pay for his food and go, her face fell. Gee, she hadn't even ate yet! Luckily, she wasn't starving because she did have Patricia's leftovers of her Sunday meal last night. She shrugged helplessly. Wherever he went, she followed. That was the way it'd always been. After Rene had paid Andy, she followed him.
Remembering that today was just going to another day, Faith sighed and felt relieved that they were going to grab something to eat on the way. However, when they were outside, her eyes widened. The sky above them was filled with darkness. Before she could say or do anything, Rene had grabbed Faith's hand and they'd went underneath the shelter of the nearby stable. But that was the beginning of the First Act. The screaming started. Faith had to endure the screams of the painful deaths that followed. For some strange reason, Faith did not even seem at all disturbed by what was going on.
The darkness ...
The people screaming ...
It felt like deja vu all over again.
At first, Faith could not hear Rene's words because she was trying to figure out in her mind what the hell was going on and why this felt so familiar to her. Could she have possibly had a dream similar to this a couple of weeks ago? She had been very disturbed by what she'd seen, even going as far as not telling Rene what was bugging her. But Faith had pushed it aside as a bad nightmare. However, it happened over and over again. Was the prophecy coming into fruition?
Rene just saying her name snapped her out of her daze. He was smiling bravely as he could. Normally, she would have scolded him for trying to be brave. However, her daze left her in a state of confusion and, of course, experiencing deja vu. Her breathing was slow and quiet, but the chaos that was surrounding them did not stop her from speaking.
"I'll be fine," she said in a most strange tone of voice. She rose to her feet, moved aside a strand of black hair in her face and dared herself to look at what was happening. "You're the one that needs to be careful, Rene." There was a brief pause until Faith spoke again - for the last time. "We'll be on the outskirts, if not on the Plains somewhere. But you need to worry about yourself for now."
Faith crossed her arms, sighing sadly. Without further ado, she threw herself into the chaos and sprinted as fast as she could to search for her missing godmother.
