I hope it's ok to post this here since it has to do with movies and such.

Didn't see this posted anywhere here, so I thought I will.

That link is for the article where Warner Bros. announced they will go exclusively Blu-Ray for their HD format. This will also result in New Line (LOTR) going Blu-Ray as well.

Basically this move is pretty much the death knell for the HD-DVD format, as the only really big companies, Universal and Paramount, are left backing HD-DVD. Paramount reportedly has an ability in their contract (that they signed with HD-DVD) to switch to Blu-Ray.

So probably by the end of the year this format war will no longer be raging.

According to Gamespot.com, Blu-Ray (created by Sony) is clearly the winner of this format war. Sony must be taking revenge because it previously created Betamax format which lost the previous format war to VHS (created by JVC). Warner Bros. used to back both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD until recently, when the company decided to drop its HD-DVD support in favor of Blu-Ray. It is also hinted that Paramount is considering to switch to Blu-Ray format. I favor Blu-Ray over HD-DVD myself.
