I'll be the first one to create this thread =] Kthnx.

Well, for starters, I completely agree with the justification of the "Perfect 40/40" score by ... Famitsu, right?

I'm going to divide my comments up into several area's of the game.

Plot
Holy triple-grated cheesepuffs! You're thrown into the midst of a war, where death is very common and necessary, then die yourself. The war ends with the death of a king, a prince and a princess. Archadia takes over Dalmasca. Later, the once thought dead Princess returns, alive and begins the journey to reclaim her throne. Outstanding! With characters such as Vayne committing what he does moving the plot along the the end, there's no dispute over the incredible story.

Characters
Vaan ::
A bit disappointed with Vaan, frankly. It may have just been me, but I don't clearly see why Vaan is the man you control, suggesting that Vaan is the main character. If we took Vaan from the story, could we have seen a noticeable difference? He's only there to add a little ambition and character interaction, as I see it.

Penelo ::
Pretty much the same as Vaan, although Penelo had a different kind of aura; one that you could be attracted to a little more easily. Again, though, taking her from the story has little to no impact on it.

Fran ::
I love Fran. From reading the manual beforehand, I had myself excited for obtaining this character, because her bio gave me an immediate sense of mystery and admitation for her. When we come to the Eruyt Village, I feel very sympathetic towards her; an outcast. Fran, to me, seems to be the character who explains everything that it not entirely obvious, or would not be known otherwise. For example, "The mist grows stronger here ..." suggests that something will happen so, naturally, you prepare for a boss. Voila!

Balthier ::
"The leading man." I didn't feel much about him until the Phon Coast, where he told Vaan a little bit about his past. I was immediately mystified by him and now I'm considering replaying the game, purely to have him in my party at all times. Oh, and idiocy +1 for me, as I didn't realise the connection between Doctor Cid and Balthier until, practically, the end of the game.

Basch ::
The typical Knight-In-Shinning-Armour for me. He has a connection to Judge Gabranth, so naturally, I love Basch, too <3. His devotion to Ashe and his determination to prove his innocence astounds me, it really does.

Ashe ::
Good grief. There's so much I want to say about her; I'm still trying to find the words. Can I come back and edit my post, later, when I've had time to digest everything? :P

Vayne ::
Best villian in Final Fantasy history, period.

Music
I listen to the opening theme three times everytime I turn on the game. XII is much more orchestrated now, but I prefer it that way - much more dramatic. Oh, and the ending with Penelo talking and Angela singing almost brought a tear to my eye xD.

Battle
I thought that, after playing Kingdom Hearts, I would be more prepared for the new battle system. I was wrong xD. I never want to go back to the ATB anymore. Square Enix has successfully achieved their aim to make Final Fantasy XII "more realistic."

Anything else I could comment on? :P

The judges you bum. My review is going to kick so much arse also <3.

Why is everyone criticizing Vaan and Penelo.
Vaan wanted to revenge his brother Reks. He believed Basch killed Reks but when he founded out that Basch's twin brother, Gabranth, killed him he venture with them just to kill Gabranth.
And Penelo, she and Vaan where like brother and sister and she helped Vaan in adventure.

I just don't like Vaan and Penelo because they didn't add anything significant to the story. I'm sure hundreds or more families were ruined and shattered by the war, so why were Vaan and Penelo the focus?

Well Vaan being the main character was okay in my opinion, he didnt have any earthshattering background or something like the other group but its not like he was just another commoner. His brother Reks in his eyes was directly killed by Basch instead of being a side effect of his actions, so he is more involved in the story than another commoner would be. I guess its also nice so that you can have a sense of mystery around Balthier (who I agree is set up to be another leading character), if we started off playing Balthier then we would already know about a lot more of his past than we would otherwise, we'd know a bit more about Fran as well. Playing Vaan we just start off knowing he's a sky pirate with this weirdass Viera chick with him and thats it and you slowly get to build up his story.

Penelo, well I never really liked her to be honest but someone had to play the role of the sixth person (six is a nice number I find so that you can have a full backup party ready to rumble in the fights if need be), if it were another person with crazy political background or whatever it wouldnt be quite as believable. Like, the odds of Basch, Balthier and Ashe getting mixed up in the same story is pretty large against it happening, adding another person with connections like them is just not gonna happen if you ask me.

Vaan didn't have a huge meat cleaver for a sword and big yellow spiky hair.

Neither was he a moody teenager with nothing better to do than put a gun inside his sword and flirt with his teacher.

Well obviously thats what final fantasy fans want because not a whole lot of people who liked the previous installments like twelve........has anyone ever stopped to think that they make for good stories and some nobody commoner doesn't?

vaan being a main character is pritty pointless i think ff should go backward's ff 7 was the last game ff had before the main character's started becoming weak moody teenager's i mean the story dosn't seem as stong

When I started off playing as Vaan and he was stealing from people it felt to me like a revamped version of Alladin. XD Once I got to the sewers and Balthier, Fran, and Ashe were in the party it started to feel more like Final Fantasy. I don't know, I just didn't like Vaan very much...

When I saw that first scene it immediately harkened back to zidane for me.

the characters only really became close at the end... i was trying to keep looking out for that...

also what happend to venat?? i didnt see him die???

could we be see-ing a XII-2? lol

I completed it about 3 months ago. So, that's my contribution to this thread. :)

Revenant Wings, much? :]

yeh... i hated how many ideas and plots wernt carried on..

the players like myself were left wondering did they actually die??.. ect ect..

if only it was that bit longer... it could have been that bit better...

but still a good game... in my eyes... game of the ps2... it practically worked the whole of the ps2 unlike other budget ps2 games..

From my understanding, Venat became part of Vayne at the end...if you look at it he kinda dissipated and the dust of him hit Vayne and made him the super-powered kinda guy he became (with all the destroying airships and fusing metal to his body etc etc). Also the final version of Vayne is referred to as 'The Undying' and from what I can remember thats what the occuria were referred to as well. I guess if they wanted to they could make a sequel saying Venat lived but right now I'd stick with him being dead.
