I still repeatedly hear FFVIII hailed as the hardest FF game ever, and I must say that this news frustrates me. It boggles my mind, actually. VIII is what I like to call the Newb Final Fantasy, because if you take even a Few Minutes to learn how the system works, you almost cannot die at all.

Enter The Junction System. The cheapest, easiest, most overpowered ability system to ever leave the offices of Squaresoft. While it is harder to manage in the beginning of the game, once you get passed disc 2 you have almost unlimited customizing ability with all three party members. The Key to this is NOT in leveling up. Experience has nothing to do with... AP is where its at. Fly down to the Cactaur Island area and spend an hour there. This will open up a large portion of your GF's potential abilities due to Cactuars giving a tremendous amount of AP over a short period of time.

Another thing to keep in mind... DRAW 100 of EvErY spell you come across. Once you have 300 of them (100 for each party member, transfer them to other characters not in your party, and go back for another 300 spells. Why, you ask? Because you're going to use up these spells, and having backups are a good idea. Why? Well... I'll get there in a second.

When you junction magic to your stats, you will want to use the most powerful spells you have. This will make your stats go way up. Yes, the drawback is that when you cast magic with those spells, your stats begin going down. So what? Go to your reserves that you should have given to your unused characters and refill it. That little strategy makes that argument absurd, all it takes is a little extra time to prepare yourself and you're good to go.

Junctioning for Elemental enemies... my this one does get people. Look, this is not hard. If you are battling enemies that are Fire Based.... Add your strongest Blizzard Spell to your Elemental ATTACK, and your strongest Fire Spell to your Elemental DEFENSE. This will now be the easiest set of battles in the game. To make this even better, once you hit Disc 4, go to The Island Closest to Heaven and The Island Closest To Hell with Diablos' Encounter None ability on. There are tons of invisible draw points. I got almost 100 Ultima Spells doing this. Add all your Ultima's to your Elemental Defense, and it raises your defense against every element. So if you have Firaga AND Ultima Junction to defense.. .you will Absorb any Fire based attack.

And the last trick I will mention... the secret to beating the game at level 25. Having your GF's learn the HP+80% and then Junctioning 100 Full-Life spells to your HP. This will put your HP at 9,999. Really, all you have to do is spend 10 minutes looking into the abilities your GF can perform, and act accordingly on it. The Junction System is incredibly powerful/easy if you just learn it.

Now, as a bonus, I have a small rant. For those who complain that this game is hard because enemies level up with you... they do, but they don't. At least to me. Because I Junction spells to my Strength Stats, any enemies I come across that are from earlier in the game do not stand a chance against me, even if I haven't leveled up much. This is because their stats increase at a MUCH slower pace than yours.

I did not intend for this to be so much of an Instructional thread. Meh. Correct/Rebuke or Agree with me and otherwise discuss.

I pretty much agree with it all there xD. The Junctioning System made it possible to complete the game without even levelling up (technically).
The reason that most people, including myself, see FFVIII as so hard is because despite how easy the Junction System makes the rest of the game, Ultimecia is a very hard boss. Which is good, because the final boss shouldn't be beaten in a few minutes. They should push your party to their limits, which Ultimecia did/

yeah but leveling up makes the game more challenging. plus you can draw more powerful magic from monsters when theyre at a higher level. so the challenge and the magic gave me enough motivation to level up as much as possible.

My first 2 attempts as I didn't quite fully understand it I would normally struggle at bosses. This time around I'm putting things into affect and finishing bosses very quickly. I had a slight trouble with Tonberry King since he kept killing Squall but still managed to beat him with 2 GF's and a couple of Renzokukens. I think the Junction System is probably one of the more complicated systems but once you understand it fully it can turn any fight into an easy one.

I guess I'd have to agree there, I mean, you don't even need unreasonably high levels to get your party powerful enough to get through the game.
I thought the junction system was decent, that is, after my second playthrough. :P
I didn't get it the first time, myself.

But yeah, the junction systems basically gets you overpowered, or powered enough. I agree.

I think the lvls of the enemies are determined by Squall. Are you a big Squall user?

But I agree with everything you said about it being an easy system. It really is. Draw this spell and that spell wherever you go. And convert it if you feel like it. Then junction it. It is pretty simple.

The reason the game is difficult for me is because I refuse to spend 10+ minutes in a battle just drawing a spell till everyone is full. Its not fun. I know a lot of people like playing RPG's to make their characters srtonger and what not, but I dont. I play J-RPG's for the story. So its a real hassle when it feels like I've been sent back 5 years in technology where I have to dungeon crawl...CRAWLLLLLL....through a battle just to be strong.

FFX was much better imo. There you get to customize what you learn, but it doesnt force you to sit in a battle forever do the same command over and over.

I've always found 8 easy =/; I mean:

- GF's can take damage in your place
- Junctioning system is overpowered indeed
- There's no gil trouble in the whole game as you hardly have to buy anything + you gain money quite easily by levelling up your SeeD rank.
- Bosses' strength depend on your lvl o_O
- Easy way to gain limits by just cancelling your turn over and over until you get one (very easy when HP in yellow)
- Very stong limits (squall and zell especially)

The game was soo easy for all the reasons above. Maybe on a first playthrough it would be more challenging, i cant remember my first playthrough cuz it was like 7 years ago. But all and all it is the easiest FF by far

Uhhhh FFVIII is absolutely NOT the hardest FF title...
All it takes to beat the game in a breeze is to NOT level up, which...is pretty easy if you ask me...
All it takes is 1000 exp to level up, regardless of the level that you're currently at. Junctioning magic and GFs to low level characters makes them near invincible...

And you can actually have 600 of each spell if you change out your characters and make sure everyone draws...

definately the junctioning system did make the game that much easier to beat.. but thats what made it so brilliant. the first time around after just getting out of ballamb garden enemies are farely tough, its challenging but not overly difficult if you can adapt well.
if you're good or second time playing you can get diablo wen u walk out the door. there are obvious flaws when you look back now, but isn't hindsight a wonderful thing? its pretty old now so u cant really compare to more current games. but i do agree with u.
but i still think its an awesome game.

FFVIII was my easiest FF title to play and beat.

The junctioning system was pretty good in my opinion, and instead of leveling up, I just stayed in the mid-20's and junctioned 100's of Ultima's, Full Life's, and whatever else you can think of to my high powered stats.

Sure I leveled up eventually to boost up my Guardian Forces, but for the most part, I tried to stay at low levels.

The only redeeming difficulty factor that FFVIII has I believe, is the fact that the enemies level up right along with you characters progress. No matter what part in the game you're at or how strong your guys (and gals) are, the enemies will always be levels higher than you.

Only hard parts in the game were about finding your way not fighting:

- Finding that white SeeD ship took me a damn while
- I was stuck for quite a time in Ultimecia's castle -_-

Yeah, as soon as you get 100 ultimas and 100 holys and 100 full lifes the game become WAy too easy

I really enjoyed being able to make a character in your party a power-house just by junctioning a bunch of GFs to them. By using the Darkness technique i was able to deal 9999 dmg to even the last boss.

Lol… I enjoyed the small rant. XD

The system was overpowering in areas, but still enjoyable in my opinion. It made excellent use of your GF’s by integrating them into most of the battle system and in my opinion; it never became dull, boring or repetitive.

Meh, I think that the summoning of any GF's was fairly useless besides Cerberus.

And I agree, the draw system made the game damn easy. Hell, once you get Siren and L-Mag refine, you get Curagas and that pretty much makes you invincible for a good bit. xD

Yeah, the junctioning system is easily the most abusable ability system in the series. As soon as you learn the magic refineries you don't even need to go through the annoying task of drawing magic. It amazes me that there are people out there that struggle to beat the game when you can easily beef yourself up and kill bosses with a couple of limit breaks.

Wow that helped me understand a bit, I always run out of spells anyway lol...
I did notice cactaurs had more ap drops when I tried compared to other monsters except monsters much stronger than cactaurs as they naturally should lol :D

Very easy to go through, especially if you know what your doing. Just junction the right spells and with the right GF's the game because ludicrously easy except for certin boss fights. Mainly Norg and his pods which take like no physical damage, and all the boss fights in Ultimecia's castle. The only boss's that actually press your abilities to stay alive in the game.

I get why VIII is easier in some ways, I do like the whole junctioning magic to stats thing... The only complaint I have is that personally I think X is better with the sphere grid. Mainly because it's easier to get around and gives you a higher sense of achievement, but also because it makes every character relevant. VIII isn't like that. You only NEED 3 characters and not because they're special even, because you can junction switch... it just loses some of the individuality X's characters have. That's just my opinion.
