there may be spoilers

Since the Cloud that you play as in the game is one of the Sephiroth clones, I was wanted to know what you guys thought happened to the real Cloud. I'm not completely sure i'm right about this.

-I was planning on posting a fanfic about it but I just wanted to see what you thought.

Ok Nothing happened to the real cloud strife.

The cloud you play as is the real cloud strife.

2 years before FFVII happened wsas the nibelhelm incident - Zack and cloud were captured and used as test subjects - they were both injected with Jenova cells, then Zack and cloud managed to escape - but as they were entering midgar Shin-ra found them - zack was shot in the chest and died - cloud was shot too and left for dead - but he managed to absorb some of Zacks memories and personality traits which saved him - thats why in disk two tifa has to reconstruct his memories.

Cloud was NEVER a sephiroth clone - otherwise he would have died by now.

When did Cloud become a Sephiroth clone? I think I've missed a huge part of the compilation or something :P
No, in FVII you're playing as the 'real' Cloud as you put it. He was born a human to his parents in Nibelheim and grew up there. Then he went to join SOLDIER, but failed at it. Then after the Nibelheim incident, he was subjected to a huge dose of Mako and Jenova Cells along with Zack by Hojo as a test. They both managed to esape, and were consequently hunted down bu the ShinRa. Zack died defending Cloud, who took up Zack's persona if you like after that. Then during the game, Tifa helps Cloud regain his memories when they fall into the Lifestream and Cloud regains his true identity
He was never a Sephiroth clone

Well no, Cloud is a Sephiroth Clone, yet still is the 'real' Cloud. The experiment was to copy Sephiroth's strength, this is what it is meant by 'Clone' in this game and not litually a created copy from scratch, via the process of injecting Jenova Cells. However despite what is mentioned in the North Crater, Cloud was infact a sucessfull experiment whilst Zack was the failure. The diffrence between Cloud and the other black hooded clones is that Cloud managed to create an imaginary memory, partially settelling his mind whilst the other couldn't.

I'm pretty damn sure this has already been coverd numeous times here.

Yea, you play as the real him. And Moonchild is also right too, in a sense. The experiment Cloud goes through is to inject him with Jenova cells and Mako cells and just see what the heck happens. Ultimately, Hojo concludes that nothing does happen. Although that really isn't the case since Sephiroth can control him...

... and because Sephiroth can control him, Sephiroth assumes that Cloud is actually one of his clones. That's why Sephiroth tells Cloud that he's just a puppet and nothing more than one of his clones. Sephiroth says to him that he's just a replica of the original. And for a while, the game lets you believe that might be the case. When you get to Mideel though, you delve into Cloud's subconscious and find out who he truly is.

So in short, not a Sephiroth clone by Hojo's standards. Sephiroth thought he was a clone. But he was only injected with Jenova cells and mako to "clone" his strength but the experiment failed by Hojo's standards.

EDIT: Also to reinforce what Moonchild says, the black clothed "clones" were the wounded from Nibelheim, if I remember correctly. I know they were stored in the Nibelheim reactor but I can't recall who they were originally. Anyhow, they were in their so long that it had a much larger effect on them than it did Cloud and Zack. They were never actually real clones anyhow... just given the same treatment as Cloud and Zack but for an extended period of time.

Unfortuantly the game, especially the English translation, doesn't explain it all too well.

Cloud was a Clone, and was a successfull experiment, what happend to Cloud was exactly as was to be expected. Sephiroth infact knows the full truth but twists his words to help bring Cloud down into a mentaly unstable postion, so that it was easier for him to get the Black Materia to Sephiroths real pysical body in the crater. Yet even then partly what Sephiroth says is true, that Cloud is a puppet. The Jenova cells being controlled by Sephiroth makes Cloud lose control of his body, its only after the Lifestream Cloud manages to become mentally strong enough to fight back against the cells he's able to gain full control. Infact, part of Clouds desire to persue Sephiroth was because of the cells 'reunion' instinct.

The game fails to adequatly bring it all together following the revelations in the Lifestream at Mideel to a clear conclusion.

And yes, the Black hooded guys are survivors that ended up in the same experiments as Cloud and Zack, and are Clones because of it. But because of reasons you stated they are mentaly numb.

The word 'Clone', or at what most people would associate it as, had been wrongly used in the game, that where majority of confusion comes from really

Cloud just got tripped up by the mako and jenova injection, but zack was a soldier so he already had mako injected into him, and thats why when he wakes up he is unnafected by it while cloud is in a semi comatose. Zack had already been subjected to this kind of treatment(minus the jenova cells). So while cloud is a mental mess and tripping out from the mako, zack tells him these life stories while there riding back to midgar, cloud mixes zacks memories with his own and forgets all his bad memories. What I mean is, cloud never made it into soldier, but he wanted to, so when zack talked about soldier, cloud inherited those memories(becuase he wanted them) and forgot completely about failing, his mind only aloowed him to inherit the memories that he wanted to though, so thats why he doesnt remember aeris and why his childhood memories are the same. And cloud was in the soldier uniform when he normalized, and he had Zacks buster sword, coupled with the fact that Zack died, and you have the perfect recipe for assuming a fake identity that no one can disprove. But he was born to parents.

Cloud is the real cloud, the shinra put the cells in many soilder to see if they could recreate a warrior that was as powerful as sepiroth so that they could make their invincable army. cloud and zack escaped with some of the jenova cells in them, when they went to return to midgar shinra attacked them, zack passed on but cloud survived, although you do not find out if the testing worked on on them i belive it did because as you see cloud destroys sepiroth.

Since the question has been answered, we all know that he is the "real Cloud" and there just seems to be repeat after repeat of the same answer, I'm going to close this thread now.
