So I finally got a PSP today. I was so excited. I bought Crisis Core as well. It took me about 20 minutes to pry the stupid plastic but tough cover of the PSP (as I had no scissors available).

I finally opened Crisis Core...and encountered a bizarre-looking case. I thought, "Oh cool, an extra case for protection." So I try to open the case...but to no avail. I didn't wanna force too much, so I handed the case to my husband and have him figure it out while I check the manual for the PSP. I got to page 5: Basic Operations UMD Content.

1. Place your finger in the indentation on the top of the system to open the disc cover.

2. Insert a UMD and close the disc cover. (Check that the disc cover is tightly closed.)

As soon as I read that, I was about to tell my husband when I heard a "CRACK". Sure enough, UMD case is broken. :neomon:

Anyway, anyone did the same mistake...? Now I can't play Crisis Core tonight and have to get a new UMD case before I can play it. I was so anxious to play the game too! We even called our local Gamestop to see if they sell any replacement, but they don't. So...I'll have to buy it online and wait a few more days for it to arrive.

-Sigh-

P.S. We are now both bickering at each other as to whose fault it was. xD He claimed that I told him to open it. I blame him anyway.

Ouch, I guess this shows that it is always best to read the manual first xD

But yeah, when I first picked up my (brothers) PSP, I was a tad confused and ended up trying to take the disk out of the case, figured it out before I broke anything though xD

Is the disc broken? As long as it's only the UMD case and it can stick together, you should be able to play.

Also, in the future... just pry back the two things in the case on top and on bottom. :wacky:

No, it doesn't stick together anymore as it was broken in half...although...can we use a super-glue to put it back together? >.> The case has a slight crack on it too, but I assume it shouldn't be a problem.

Hmm, I'll try super-glue. And yeah, we went to youtube right after just to figure out how to open the blasted thing.

Because you need the case in order for the CD to fit on the PSP. The PSP is built to accommodate gameplay by using the UMD case, with the CD inside. Without a case, you can't just insert the disc by itself onto the PSP as it just doesn't work that way. =/

yep most of my games that ive had for more than 3 months end up like that.. Scotch tape did the job, as long as that little opening is alright (where the laser reads the disk) then you should be alright.

I had a hand-me-down game with the case broken, but if I held it together long enough to jam it in the psp it would work just fine.

Ive done the same thing with one of my games. It was old and the case ripped in half i just taped it closed and did not cover the opening. The game works fine.

Okay, I was going to try the tape deal, but I'm really paranoid that the disc might get scratched for some reason once it is inserted in the PSP. So I just bought a UMD case replacement on ebay and it should be arriving today or tomorrow.

Hmm...can someone clarify something for me? Okay, when you buy a game for PSP, you cannot open the UMD case (without actually breaking it), correct? Because I bought a new game just so I can have another UMD case, take that case and insert Crisis Core into that new one. Problem is, I also couldn't open the UMD case for this new game...and I didn't wanna force it anymore.

This didn't happen to me luckily. I'd already had experience with the PSP. But I can see why it would. It's a strange design, to say the least, but effective and efficient in some ways.

And you're not meant to open the UMD case. Each game has its own, although the case for my 2nd hand copy of Tales of Eternia is loose. You could try, but would risk breaking that too since it's not meant to be done. It's as much a part of the disk as the disk itself...

I've customized my PSP, by taking the metal casing out of the inside of the PSP. Even though I don't play UMD's (I play ISO's which run 3 times as fast) I can play them with the disc alone.

For anyone who has this problem in the future the below site may help. The sell replacement cases and have a vid showing you how it works and also how to open existing UMDs.

Yeah that's the video I looked at after we broke the UMD case. I bought three from ebay and those are easy enough to open.

Just gotta remember...the UMD case that comes in a PSP game aren't meant to be opened. :wacky: I learned it the hard way.

PSP games and my stupidity

Did anyone else not know that the games were meant to stay in that little plastic holder?

I got WoTL before I actually bought my PSP and I sat there for the longest time trying to get the disc out of it, I decided to have a rant on MSN about it before I got a knife and forced it out.

Lucky for me I did that BEFORE I attacked the game because I was promptly called an idiot and told it was meant to stay in there

I just thought it was like a little carry case for it so you could stash them nicely in your handbag without having to take the whole case :wacky:

I am officially a retard :monster:

Oh darn, I totally missed that thread and I looked aswel. I'm such a nob

I'm glad it wasn't just me then xD

I'd say that if you have to try and force something open with a knife, it's probably best you don't open it...

I knew it was supposed to be in there before I got a PSP, so I didn't have that problem :gasp:

lol a guy called into my boyfriend's gamestop, and told him that he thought his new psp was broken cuz it wouldn't read the game disc. well they went through a list of things that could be wrong until finally he asked if he had taken the game outta the little white case. he replied well duh, that was the first thing i did. He was then told that he broke the game, and they all had a good laugh at the gamestop once he got off the phone. lol
