I would say it would be aeries. unfirtunately she dies early in the game but if you are able to get her ultimate weapon and ultimate ablity then she can do some really good damage!

i wouldnt call her underatted cause everyone talks about he and she was really powerful (not just during battles storyline wise)

Underrated?
I'd have to say Red XIII. He isn't drastically underrated, but he was an amazing character who wasn't emphasized nearly enough for my liking.

Aeris? Underrated? That's a first. She has a huge fanbase.

I have to say Yuffie. People are quick to toss her aside as just an optional character, but if you delve deep enough, her story is very interesting.

There's the Wutai/Shinra war. What sort of effects did it have on her?

What about the fact that her mom isn't around?

What about taking on Sephiroth with the rest of the gang? She was only 16 at the time.

Then there's her wanting to restore her country to it's former glory.

She has an awesome personality, isn't boring, can fight with the best of them
.

I agree. Too many people dislike Yuffie because of her "boring" sidequest, but I actually really enjoyed it! ^_^

boring side quest?
you mean the one where you fight rapps without materia?
you mean HARD sidequest lol
you need over 1600 hp!

The stupidest reason I tend to hear about her is...

"OMG she laike stowl mai mateeriuh, she sux!11!!"

<__<

I know. lol. But at least she puts up a challenging Sidequest.
Vincent's was tooooooo easy, come on...

Yuffie's SQ was totally random and unexpected, which made it fun. ^_^

i would have to say that - fanbase aside - Aeris Is Extremely under-rated - i have seen far to many noobs go "LYK OMG I NEVER USED AERIES BECAUSE SHE CANT ATTACK" "AND ZOMG AERIATH SUX!!!121!1" yeah w/e if you make her use MAGIC like she was intended to shes invaluble - plus she can cast invunlerability! how amazing is that?

Yuffie and Red XIII are also extremely under-rated.

Poor Yuffie it always like "Which FF7 Girl Is Hottest Aeris Or Tifa" Hello there is another one - Yuffie, plus her 3 lines in AC were awesome.

And when me and my friends watched AC when Red XIII spoke at the end one of my friends went "OMG Did that dog just Talk?!?!"

I was disgusted with Square for not making such a awesome character talk more.

Yuffie was one of the characters that had the most personality in VII. She is the only girl to actually kiss Cloud if you get her date. Even when times are bad she still keeps a positive attitude, like when she was hanging on a cliff in Wutai, she still kept her sense of humor. She betrays your party but she did so in order to buy her town back from Shinra, so she's not just some selfish theif, although what she did was pretty bad.
if you have her in your party when Aeris dies, she will actually give Cloud a hug. Before that it looks as though she is trying not to cry, kind of showing us that she is still in fact young.

Unfortunantly, so many female characters like Yuffie have come after her that she gets labled in the group of "hyper girls". I personally never saw Yuffie as hyper, just upbeat and happy. But if that is the case, well she is the original "hyper girl".

As for underrated characters. Gotta go with Faris. Mainly because most people will never play V. But Faris is truly the most badass female final fantasy character.

I also have to go with Barret. Most people just dismiss him as a stereotypical black male, but I don't think so. He takes care of Marlene and loves her very much, and he does this for his friend who is her father. People complain that he killed thousands of people. Well guess what? Cloud and Tifa were a part of his organization and were part of those attacks on Shinra.

Final Fantasy V
Galuf - The old man ends up leaving the story about halfway through the game. Won't tell you why but he does. He's still comes around later on but not nearly as much. But he's definitely a good character. I think as poorly written as most of the old school characters were, he definitely had some thought put into him. Unfortunately, not a lot of people have ever played the game so he's kind of lost in FF history. Definitely underrated.

Final Fantasy VII
Aeris - Definitely. I mean, I loved the game and I know what happens... but I've never used her. I liked her character but I never really put a lot of effort into using her before her end.

Final Fantasy IX
Blank - Hell ya! Blank! He's seriously my second favorite character from the game. Number one probably being Vivi. Not only does he probably have the best design of anyone in the game, he always goes and sacrifices himself for his friends. When they get him out of hawk, he's right back again to help him. I think he would have made a better hero than Zidane if he didn't spend half the game as a product of Michelandgelo.

Sir Fratley - This guy is another great hero who barely gets any time in the game. He's this wonderful legendary hero that has about 10 minutes worth of screen time and 5 lines. It's really a shame. He was a great character and a lot of people forget about him because the game just ignored him.

Final Fantasy X
Maechen - Great character! An old dude that roams around and knows just about everything to know about the world. I wish there were more characters like him in every game. He just shows up, knows just enough about the place to let you know some indepth details about a place, and then let's you go discover the truth about it. This character gave a lot of depth to this RPG. You wouldn't know about half the people or places in this game without this wise old unsent bastard! Blue you're my boiy! And that, as they say, is that.

I have to agree with Aztec Triogal on his things but i think that he missed one and that is Quistis from ffviii. She wasnt that good of a character so many people that i know have played ffviii say that they never really spent time trying to improve her and her skills.

Dude if you get one of her limit breaks i think it was micro missiles it makes getting diablos a joke those things own it hard

Hmm, I'd go with Rinoa. I think she's very under-rated. The most I hear from people is that she's annoying and a damsel in distress, which is actually true, lol. Even I find her annoying at times. And I get frustrated everytime I have to rescue her ass.

But to be honest, I really like her character a lot. I find her cute and the way she chase after Squall is amusing.

you are right rinoa was over looked. that is due to the fact that she is such an annoying character in the game and due to the fact that she isnt that strong.

Hail Galuf! That guy is hilarious, as good as the Cid from IV, Tellah - a lot of early ff characters never get the fanbase they deserve, which is disappointing.

Quina.
Everyone hates he/she becuase its an asexual white blob.
But, they are accualyl good in battle and can do up to 9999 damamge with Frog Squash <3

I'm going to put Cecil from IV down. Many people talk about how badass Kain is or how awesome Rydia is and Cecil often gets over looked. I thought he was the coolest character in the game though. Cecil was a complete badass in the opening movie. And you can't forget the fact that he disobeyed the king because he thought that what he was asked to do was wrong. And you can't forget his dark attack. He eventually overcomes his dark side to become a paladin. And he had a prophesy about him.

If I had to choose any of the FF main characters to save the world, I would definently choose Cecil.

i wouold have to agree with Rydia about cecil. he was the best and most undlerlooked character in FF IV but i still would have to go wuth aeries in this one. I say this because almost everyone that i know that has truly played FFVII said that they never really tried to work on aeries and that she sucked. they were all happy when she died and they didnt have to play as her anymore. a lot of people look at her that way
