After 7 whole hours of battling the Wyrm God Yiazmat, who has a whopping 50,000,000 HP, you finally strike the final blow...
You head back, save your game, and ride your airship back in town, go to the clan hall, and, expecting a majestic reward, you speak to Montblanc...
And all you get is a lousy badge that's used to make a lousy weapon. :jtc:

Whether it's Omega, the Cloister of the Dead, Zeromus EG, the Soul Shrine, Ozma*, or others, there have been lots of very hard challenges in the FF series which all give either no rewards, or some badges/useless items to show to your friends. Even though your friends won't really care. What do you think about these challenges? Do you still do them, even though you know you won't get anything? How did you react when you found out that there is no reward for the outstandingly hard task you just accomplished? Discuss.

Me? I only complete optional stuff, rewarding or not, when I set out on 100% completion. Yep, I killed Yiazmat, because I wanted 100% completion for FFXII. And I got all the Grimoires and I defeated Zeromus EG in FFIV for the same reason. For games that I just want to play through and finish, I mainly just complete optional things that give me good rewards, although I sometimes do unrewarding tasks.

*Although you get an Ozma card when you defeat him, Ozma card is also obtainable by defeating the Card Ghosts in Memoria. I consider it a rewardless battle.

I'l do everything regardles sof the reward, although Il have a damn good grumble that the reward isnt worthy of my efforts by the end. The mognet one gets me, I do it everytime knowing fine well il do nowt but complain at the crappy item I get that i already have (the name escapes me) I remember the first time i played, I was furious

With bosses though, the accomplishment of actually beating them is reward enough for me xD

The Mognet thing was a massive let down. I thought getting to Chocobo Paradise was pretty crap too, although the chocobo mini game that went with it was good enough.
There was also Underwater WEAPON in VII which was grueling and utterly useless.

At least you get all that lovely mastered materia.....although why you need it AFTER beating the bugger.....

Ruby is pretty dissapointing too, WHY you get a bloody gold chocobo when chances are you already HAVE one is beyond me, it's utterly useless. I'd of rather had some useless item in my inventory than another bloody bird that I was never going to ever race or visit or well.....even go to the stables to LOOK at

I was kinda disappointed when I completed the Monster Arena in FFX. I mean i was really pumped that I actually accomplished it, but only getting a new Key Item called: "Mark of Conquest" or something like that, made it feel like a sorta shady reward.

I spent a buncha time strategizing and taking down those creations and capturing monsters, so I would have liked to have a bit of a better prize in the end.

*has flashbacks of beating one of the Treno monsters, only to get a pair of running shoes, which he already had :sad2: *

Uh... Yeah. I like to claim 100% on all of my games (haha! Screw you, Dad! XD). So I'm doing/will do these battles, whether they are fun or not. Ozma was shockingly... Not that hard. So I feel invincible now. I'm looking forward to Yiazmat. >_>

As for getting little to no reward in return, you get the satisfaction and bragging rights of being able to say you beat monster A & B! XD

Yeah, the bragging rights were more than enough reward for me when I beat Penance on FFX. Bragging rights isn't really the term, it's more a sense of accomplishment really. I've been playing FFX for 10 years, and never had the patience to prepare for, and then battle Penance. It felt like the end of a long journey, and a coming-of-age almost.
