Username Themes

Currently there is a theme taking place on the site involving Moogles. This theme will last 2 weeks whereas Mitsuki changed the names to the Moogles, I will be changing them back to the original username that you had previous to the theme.

After this, if anyone wants to do a theme, they will have to wait until they are able to change their names themselves. This will depend on y'all getting together and organizing when you are due for a name change do you can do it at the same time. Then depending on what usergroup you are in, you will have that username for that set amount of time. The policy on name changes every so often like 30, 60, 90 days etc, was to cut back on the already rampant changes of usernames people do on the site.

This has been something that has been discussed for quite some time and seeing as how many people participated in the Moogle Theme and are anticipating the start of the FFX one later on in the summer, in order to take part in the next theme, you will have to have your current username for 2 months (minimum), before you can change it yourself to the new theme. Just a heads up so no ones asking for a name change because they didn't want a name they picked out for 2 months and are stuck with it now.

EDIT: If that is confusing on any level and any further explanation is needed or questions you have, ask away and myself, Mitsuki, and some of the staff can try to answer them for you.

What about full members, who can only change every 90 days? Will they be able to change every 60 days too?

Basically, if anyone wants to participate in a theme, they have to wait until the appropriate change for their usergroup. So Full members will have to wait 90 days. You'll have to coordinate the themes to when everyone who wants to participate can change their own names. Also, they'll have to keep the name until they can change it again.

As of right now your current username is the Mitsuru one. You had it changed to that back on March 30th I believe or around there. So that was your last official name change, since I am not counting this theme as a "name change". So your next eligible 90 days is up date would be June 30th.

My advice to you would be then to hold off on changing your name that day and wait until you want to change to the FFX theme on August 14th. However, if you change it to a theme username, you will have to keep that theme username for 90 days...

Yes, that is correct. We're not counting the time you picked the Moogle theme against you. So it would be from your last name change before that. Not counting Survivor ones for those to whom it pertains too.

It was just about time. It makes the whole 'username limit' rule seem suddenly pointless if it boils down to administrators having to change a bunch of usernames in the end anyway because we have members wondering why they can't change their usernames on a particular date. Well, the reason is because the username themes had overwritten the original date and so we would have to figure out their last name changed, manually change it for them just so they can bypass the system settings. It all gets too complicated and confusing from then on, not to mention quite a hassle, especially when there's a huge list of usernames.

Not sure if anyone can really comprehend but you'd have to see how messy it gets once you're looking at the Username history list in the ACP and the requests of name changes and trying to figure it all out. I know some members are pretty bummed out about this and we apologize, but it's going to have to be this way from now on. Members can still plan for a theme and since themes are typically set every 2 months anyway, it shouldn't be too big of a problem to have a small group plan ahead of time so that they can all change their usernames around the same day/week. The only difference is, we'll have nothing to do with changing anyone's usernames for a theme anymore.

I comprehended that just fine.

The reason that this is going on is because the system is thinking that the themes are regular username changes, so it won't let you change it when you should because technically, your time is not yet up.

By doing it this way, it WILL be just like a regular name change, so there won't be any more issues with the limit not being right for certain people.

Correct. In the end we do end up changing a lot of the members' usernames when they ask because they skip over the theme and goes back to the date prior that, and then it messes up the 'username limit' setup.

Frankly I still don't quite understand why you guys have limits on name changing as it is. Sure it's a hassle for such a big forum with so many members... was the unlimited name changes really abused so much?

I don't think there ever was unlimited name changes, certainly not from what I can remember. It's just a matter of confusion really, it would be difficult to track down who is who if everyone has the ability to change their username whenever they please. Even with the current Moogle theme where there's only like 25 or so people doing it, it's really difficult to establish who is who. Allowing everyone to change their name whenever would be exactly the same but on a much bigger scale.

Proof yet again that the name changing restrictions are annoying to the staff, annoying to the members, and add absolutely nothing of value to the site. We can easily hover over a username if we don't know who they are. It would be a shame to give posters more freedoms, though, wouldn't it?
